  1. Took a break from salmon fishing and took the kids fishing for bass at Wautoma Shores. Read it was a great small mouth bass area. First fish was a big smally on a minnow. Every thing after that was gobie after gobie. They were eating our minnows and crayfish as soon as we got the lines in the water. Anyone know of how to fish for bass with live bait and not catch gobie after gobie? Anyone else fish Wautoma shores? Thanks, Rick
  2. I am looking to have a new bimini top made that will snap on to my windshield to protect me from the weather. Any recommendations on shops around Rochester? Thanks, Rick
  3. Here is the update. I forgot to mention that the starter drive assembly was missing some teeth so I replaced it before I went out and ran into the problems. When I pulled the engine cover after being confused as to why it was having trouble turning over my dad noticed the new drive assembly was engaged with the flywheel. He thought this was not normal. I took the starter apart and everything looked good. After assembly I put some grease on the armature shaft where the drive assembly spins up and down. I checked all the electrical connections and everything looked good. Hooked the starter back up and it ran fine. Tried it about 6 times to make sure it was good. So I believe the problem was not greasing the shaft when I installed the new drive assembly. This caused the assembly to not spin down like it was supposed to. By having the assembly engaged with the flywheel before turning the key caused the starter to have such a hard time to turn over. This is just my guess. Works now and I hope it continues to work fine. Thanks to all that replied with suggestions. Rick
  4. 1983 Evinrude 60HP Went to start it and it would hardly turn over. Tried again, and same thing. Thought battery was dead, so I connected wires to a different battery. When disconnecting I noticed the wires were REALLY hot. Same problem with back up battery. Went back to first battery, same problem, tried again and then it turned over fine. Another turn of the key and it would hardly turn over again. Pulled motor cover and noticed starter was really hot. Waited a few minutes while scratching my head. Tried it again and started up and ran fine all morning. A few friends are telling me if the wires and starter were REALLY hot, then the problem is the starter. Any suggestions??? Thanks, Rick
  5. I am looking at getting a rod holder for my new wire diver set up. What do you suggest? I was thinking about getting the Big John Ratcheting Diver Rod Holder. I need one so I can run my rod off the side to increase my spread. Thanks, Rick
  6. After so much talk about wire dipsey set ups I finally bought one. After much readings on here I got a Diawa 9'6" heartland dipsey rod and Diawa Sealine 47LC reel with 1000' of wire. Tried it for the first time Sat and it didn't take long to figure why everyone was saying it is a great set up. 5 of the 7 fish came off that set up, and I only had 1 wire setup. My question is around 4 rod placement. I ran 2 riggers off the side which have short beams, but put the poles in the 2 center rod holders. I ran a mono small dipsey off the one side with an adjustable rod holder horizontal to the water. I could not do that with the wire set up since it had some much pull, I was afraid the holder would not hold it and I would lose my pole. So I put the wire rod (dipsey setting 2) in the outer rod holder on the rigger. Everything was fine till a steely (guessing) took a spoon on the rigger closest to the wire and started jumping all over the place. Line broke within 30 seconds since I believe he crossed the wire line. I am thinking I need to do something else so I can keep the wire away from riggers. I have a 1983 18' blue fin which is not very wide. Should I run the riggers straight back instead of off the sides? Or should I get a better single rod holder and brace it to the boat so I can run the rod horizontal to the water like I have seen on the "wire hit" video under the video section? New to wire dipseys but love it already. Thanks for all your help, Rick
  7. Never got a weight. My dad was guessing 25? Brought it home to show the kids and I plan on smoking it this week. Was nice to return the favor and take my dad fishing.

  9. Chris, Nice pics and thanks again for letting me see that one giant in person. No pictures of Jordan? He only caught a tiny pike with me. I know he had better luck with you. Maybe we can get out this year together. Take care!
  10. I have tried that area with no luck. I have tried bow hunting Lowden Point Rd and seen many hunters and heard many shoots in a bow hunting area. They must have been hunting small game? I have seen many hunters and 0 deer this year. Good luck.
  11. Thanks for the input. I heard the same from some hunters I just talked to at the firehouse. Sucks that there is state land all along the parkway and only a few parking areas. Thanks again and good luck to everyone!
  12. Does anyone know if I will get a ticket if I pull my truck off the side of the parkway to access NYS hunting land in Greece NY? I see guys fishing do it all the time around long pond area. Thought I would ask before I tried it. Thanks.
  13. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):9/19 Time on Water:6:30 - 11:30 Weather/Temp:cloudy then sunny Wind Speed/Direction:light Waves: 1-3's early then settling down Surface Temp: 64.6 Location: braddocks to river LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 0 Total Boated:0 Species Breakdown:0 Hot Lure: Trolling Speed: 2.0 - 3.0 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 25-60 Lure Depth: ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Put in Saturday but had a dead battery, so after buying a new battery tried again Sunday. Started trolling from Braddocks at 6:30 am and only saw one boat out in 40' so we trolled towards the river. As we headed that way we saw many boats heading west and out deep. Was surprised that 2 boats decided to fly right by us so close, pretty rude after having the entire lake. Tried 25' in front of Russell station and the river. Was not too many boats out. Some in close and some out deeper. Tried out in 60' and back to 25' before we had to call it a day. Sun decided to come out and turned into a beautiful day but I had to go referee some hockey. Anyone having any luck around braddocks/river? I enjoy spending time with my dad but I am really trying hard to get him into fish like he used to do for me. Keep thinking I am doing something wrong, but I don't hear many people posting great success either. Marked fish and bait all over but no luck. Thanks and good luck.
  14. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):9-11 Time on Water:6:30-12:00 Weather/Temp: Sunny 60's-70 Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: 1-2 Surface Temp: 69-70 Location:Braddocks to river LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits:1 Total Boated:0 Species Breakdown: Hot Lure: Trolling Speed: 2.4-2.8 Boat speed Down Speed: Boat Depth: 40-100 Lure Depth: 20-40 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Finally got to take my dad out after I had to rebuild the lower unit. Trolled from Braddocks east towards the river. Lost a small one around 8:30 on a Mt/dew SD with green crinkle atomic fly. 30' down in 50' water. My dad lost it at the boat. Hit came just west of Russell Station. Had one release on watermelon NK, but no one was home, right in front of river. Marked some bait and fish but no luck. Boats seemed to be out deep and in close around the river. I was lost on where to go, so I stayed around 60'-90' around river. Headed back towards Russell Station and called it a day around noon. I tried a 4 pole set up with stacked riggers. SD/atomic, NK's, DW SS, and J-plugs. I still have a lot to learn, but didn't see any other boats netting any. Was a beautiful day to be out and spend time with my dad. 9/11 NEVER FORGET!!!!
  15. Capt Lester stopped by to fire house last night around 11 to show me the fish. The thing was a pig. Thanks again Chris for stopping by and showing me the fish and also for all the tips. Good luck the rest of the season. Rick
  16. Thanks for all the advice and help. Only purple I ran was atomic fly behind mt/dew SD. Trolled straight out. In circle sometimes when the wife was driving. LOL. I will look into a down speed and temp unit. I can buy a surface speed for my Lowrance X67C. Thanks again for all the help. It is greatly appreciated.
  17. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):Aug 14 Time on Water:9:30 Weather/Temp:warm Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: little wavy out in 200' with a 18' boat, better in 120' Surface Temp: 74 Location:Off Braddocks LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 1 Total Boated:1 Species Breakdown:small king Hot Lure: Trolling Speed: ? Down Speed: ? Boat Depth: 150 Lure Depth: 60 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Went out for the first time with the wife and kids. I didn't have my dad to show me how to use the down riggers and dipsys, so I winged it. Set up at 150' with a SD MTN/DEW with green crinkle a-tom-ik fly on first rigger 60' down. Soon as I set it we caught a small king that was skipping across the top. You guys call those 'SKIPPERS" RIGHT. Thought we were golden, never saw another fish. Went out to 220' with nothing. Kids and wife were getting bored so we started to head back in. Soon as we got in 60' of water we starting marking a lot of fish 20' - 30' down. Kids and wife were excited again but nothing. Went in to Braddock to pan fish but nothing again. I might try again tomorrow from Braddocks if I can get my dad to show me the ropes. I ran 2 riggers with SD/Flys and 2 Dipsy's with DW SS and NK. I just had the dipsy's trolling behind. Didn't want to try and stack them. Had some releases on the one rigger that caught the skipper, but nothing home. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks and good luck. ====================
  18. Thanks guys, really appreciate the feedback. Looking to have the 6 reels respooled today or tomorrow and hopefully take my dad and son fishing Sat/Sun. Thanks again.
  19. I was lucky enough to have my father give me his boat and all the fishing gear to go with it. I now have 6 Diawa rods and reels. Reels are SeaLine 47H. I want to respool the reels and was wondering what everyone would suggest. My dad used to run 16lb for spring and fall. I will be fishing mostly in spring and fall for salmon/trout. So please let me know what you recommend for line. Type and lbs. Thanks a lot. Can wait to get back into salmon fishing with my dad and son.
  20. Does anyone know of a GPS that you can use for your car and boat. I would like to use the lat and lon info on the maps, but my current GPS doesn't allow lat and lon settings. The loran I had does not work any more. Thanks for your help.
  21. I am looking for specific spots to take the kids fishing in Braddocks. I am used to trolling on the lake, but the kids get bored with that. So I was told to fish Braddoks. I tired Coopers pond this past weekend and kids caught a few sunfish. I was hoping some one could give me specific spots to try and what to fish with. My family and I would greatly appreciate the help. Thank you!
  22. Name: Dickey Location:Greece Home Port:Braddocks Boat Name/Type:Blue fin I fish for:salmon, trout, bass, pan fish ================== Hello to all! After many years of fishing with my dad I have aquired his boat. I am looking forward to talking my boys and wife fishing on the lake. I have not salmon fished for many years. I plan on taking them bass, and pan fishing also, but don't know where to really fish for those now. Hedges used to be our prime SM spot. If anyone is willing to give me some pointers on where to take the kids fishing that would be great. Thanks and good luck fishing to all.
