  1. Nice job and thanks for posting. I was out Fri but went out to 225' off Braddocks. 2 kings, 1 steelhead, all on SD/Fly.
  2. Took a friend from the fire department fishing for his 1st salmon trip. We were in the water by 7:30 and we headed out where we saw 2 boats. He caught his 1st fish around 8am (225 FOW, west troll, NBK SD, Sweat Pea Fly, 70' rigger). I would say high teen or maybe low 20 king (bigger than the one in the picture). Released that fish. 2nd fish was at 9:36 (200 FOW, east troll, 210' wire, clear dipsey 2.5 setting, white crush SD, Hammer fly). Kept that fish cause I didn't think he would live (pic below). 1 small rainbow around 11am (150 FOW, south troll, Mtn Dew SD, purple fly, 65 rigger). Released at the boat. I was just happy to be out fishing for the 1st time in 2 years and happy my buddy caught some fish. Thanks to all those that replied on my previous post about where to start today. Thanks, Rick
  3. I am planning a trip with a fellow volunteer firefighter tomorrow morning that has never salmon fished. We are launching at Braddocks. I was wondering if anyone could give me a rough idea where to start depth wise and roughly how far down. Haven't seen any posts recently and was just hoping for some help so I can give my friend the best chance to catch some fish. I do not have a down temp and speed probe. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks, Rick

  5. Only run 2 wire dipsey rods. Clear on 1 side and black on the other. Clear caught the majority of my fish. Rick

Boat Depth: 225'- 450' Lure Depth: 275 and 225 wires, 50/70/90/110 riggers ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Took my dad out for a little fishing. Haven't seen many reports so we just guessed on depths and locations. All 3 fish came on 225 wire. Clear dipsey, 2.5 setting with no ring. White SD/ Hammer fly. 1st was a steely in 350 FOW. 2nd was a small king in 406 FOW. Last one in 412 FOW. It ripped line out to 550' and my dad kept joking around he had bottom. It was getting late so I brought all the lines in thinking it would be our last fish and it was a good one. After we finally got it in we noticed it was hooked in the side fin. It was around 20lbs I am guessing. Guessing that is why it ran so hard. All 3 were released on the side of the boat with out ever leaving the water. Saw a few other boats out. Not our best day but fishing with my dad is always special. Gonna try again Sunday. Rick
  7. Nice to know I have someone with lots of experience right around the corner. I live on the new section of Creighton Lane across from the pond. Boat in is the driveway. Stop by some day so I can thank you for your help. Rick
  8. A-Lure-A, I fished on July 4th in 215 FOW and caught all big ones. We stayed in 140 FOW because were heard rumors of lake turning. We saw some boats our deeper and some shallower. Figured we were staying busy so we stayed put but thanks for the info. Yankee, I will try to tighten the releases. I run Blacks also. I think your brother lives near me since I see the Yankee Troller cooler in the driveway near the yellow boat, and I read your posts about fishing on the boat. I could be wrong. Thanks again for all your help. Because of this site I have increased my fishing skills greatly. I never fished wire and sd/flies, now I catch 90% of my fish on them. Rick

Boat Depth: 110-160 Lure Depth: riggers 45/50/75/80. Wire 215, 225 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Decided to take a co worker that just retired out as a retirement gift. After seeing fellow firefighter Chris of the ScottsmanII at the Kendall parade I got some advice on where to start. THANKS CHRIS! We started in 110' off Braddocks and it didn't take long before the action started. 1st fish was a small king on the 215' wire with a clear dipsey w/o ring, white SD/hammer fly. This combo took most of the fish as it has for me all year. Did loose a nice one on the 225' wire which had a black dipsey, black SD w/ green dots, and a white atommik fly. Lost 3 total on the day. Only had one hit on a spoon and that was a NK MAG Diehard on 50 rigger. That was one we lost. Switched over to 4 SD/Fly program and only 2 spoons. Had 5 hits on sd/flies on riggers but right after the release there was nothing there. The guy I took out wants to try salmon fishing on his boat so after a rigger release with no one home I talked him through resetting the line. 30 seconds after he sets the NBK SD/sweet pea fly down 81 it fires and this time someone was there. We did best in 140'. Keep a king and rainbow for smoking. Nothing big but just glad to be out. Any ideas on why the sd/fly rigger hits with no one home? Thanks, Rick.
  10. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):7-4-12 Time on Water:6:30m till 10:30 Weather/Temp:warm Wind Speed/Direction:west Waves: 1-2 Surface Temp:75 Location: north of braddocks LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 11 Total Boated: 10 Species Breakdown:8 kings, 2 rainbows Hot Lure: white sd/ hammer fly Trolling Speed: 2.7 - 3.0 surface speed Down Speed: ? Boat Depth: 215 Lure Depth: 250/275 wire, 50,60, 70, 80 riggers ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Sorry post is late but home computer died. Took my dad out on the 4th. Started in 215' and stayed there all day. Was a great day fishing. Got kind of comical with 2 doubles and 1 triple with only 2 guys on board and no one to drive with 1-2 footers. 1 rainbow on DW wonderbread on 50 rigger. Another rainbow on NK Mag black with yellow tape and white belly 60 rigger. 1 king on NBK SD with hammer fly on 80' rigger. 4 kings on 250' wire with clear dipsy, white SD, hammer fly. 3 kings on 275 wire, black dipsy, black SD with green dots and white fly. One time I was fighting a fish on 275 wire, same side rigger fires which I thought my fish crossed the line. Once I saw the rigger line had a fish jumping out of the water I realized it was a different fish. My dad looks at me laughing and says "sure hope we don't get another one", as he is trying to drive and fight his rainbow. With in 20 seconds the 250 wire fires but by the time we got to that rod nobody was home. All the kings were around the size of the one pictured. Only kept in since it didn't revive well. My dad said it has been a long time he has caught that many quality kings. Wondering how many we could have caught if we stayed out longer. One king also had a large lamprey on it. Rick
  11. Yes you can. I did it last year with my 18ft boat. There was a sand bar right where the channel starts and we had to tilt the motor up and push the boat. After that is was smooth sailing. There is also a bridge you need to go under. I don't know the water level this year, but I am guessing low. Hope this helps. Rick
  12. They replaced mine at no cost.
  13. How about a Humminbird 788Ci GPS/Sonar Combo? Gander mountain has it in the ad's for $440 after mail in rebate. Thanks, Rick
  14. I have a Lowrance X67C fish finder. I can't seem to mark any fish, or down riggers when trolling. It came with the boat when my dad gave it to me. My dad said he just to mark fish all the time when he first got it. I was thinking of getting a new fish finder instead of replacing the transducer. I am just a weekend warrior and like to take the kids fishing for bass and pan fish when not trolling. Just wondered what you recommend for under $400. Do you think one with GPS is worth it? Thanks ahead of time! Rick
  15. Lowest I had was 1.8 feet through the channel. There was quite a few boats going through that day. Most on plane, some slow.
  16. Wanted some thoughts on copper. I never tried wire until reading info on this site. After much help and learning, wire is my go to set up. I am thinking of trying copper. Not a wide boat (18' 84 Blue fin) so I normally run 2 wires and stack 4 lines on 2 riggers. I have a brand new Daiwa Sealine SG47LC and wonder if it okay for copper? Do you use special rods for copper? Can I fish it straight back flat lining? If you hook a screamer on a rigger does it get tangled with flat lined copper? I am new to copper and any help is appreciated. If my boat is not a good fit for copper than I will just stick with my 6 rod set up. Thanks ahead of time for your help. Rick

Boat has been ready but we have both been too busy to get out. I let him drive since it was his boat since day 1 (1984) and he passed it down to me 2 years ago. Went out to 150' and saw a few boats. Set the wires at 210 and 225 (2.5 setting) Size 1 dipsey /SD/Atomic flies. Set a NK Mag (black front /white back w/yellow tape) 20' down. I was getting ready to stack the next rod and the rod fires in 165'. Nice steelhead jumping all over. Finally got all 6 rods set. Later on 225' wire with Black dipsey/ black SD/ purple fly releases but nothing home. 210' wire fires (clear dipsey/white SD/Hammer fly starts taking some line. Guessing a 20+ king (pic below). Same black and white NK Mag fires nothing there. Later the 210 wires goes again with a teen king. BK/WH NK Mag fires again with another nice steelhead. I changed the 80 rigger from NBK spoon to white SD/Hammer fly. My dad said he wanted to head in around 11. 10:45 80 rigger fires with a teen king again. Tried to release all the fish but the 2 we kept I was afraid would make it so we took them home. All fish we caught in 165' to 195'. Steelheads seemed to be 20' down. Kings 80' rigger and 210 wire. Rick
  18. I had a problem with my pull-pin on my new Big John Ratcheting Rod Holder and called Big John. They sent me a new pin with no problems. Hope this helps. Rick

    Batteries

Thanks for the info. After alot of reading I am wondering if I need to just run the motor on one battery and the fish finder and radio on a deep cycle? I have everything on the marine battery. I thought that since I troll 90% of the time that the battery was recharging while the engine was running. I do some bass/pan fishing with the kids and run the fish finder and radio with the motor off. Should I have one marine battery for the motor and deep cycle for the electronics? Thanks again for all your help! Rick
