Took my son and some friends out. On the water at 6:30am off at 11:00. Had 44 degrees down 57’ in 70fow. Ran 2 riggers and 2 dipseys. Worked out to 160’ and back into 100’. Landed 9 kings. 8 came on riggers and 1 on dipsey. Had 1 rigger release with no one home and 2 dipsey hits with same result. All spoon program with wonderbread taking most and biggest fish. Carbon hulk was runner up on other rigger. Kept 3 so my son could feed the firehouse Thurs night.

My son’s girlfriend’s father from Texas came up to for work and asked if I could take him salmon fishing for his 1st time on Lake Ontario. We left the river at 5:30 and headed offshore. Of course Windfinder and National weather service called for light winds and less than 1’. I was greated with rough water in the river so I knew it was going to be a bumpy ride. He landed 8 and lost 2. 7 kings and 1 bow. He unfortunately lost the biggest but not bad for his 1st time salmon fishing. We pulled lines at 11:30. He even kept a fish to take back to Texas. Best for me was carbon hulk on probe rigger down 75 took multiple fish early. Bow hit white SD/hammer fly on dipsey out 250. Once sun came up I switched to silver backs on green jeans and bad toad and they took multiple fish and biggest on rigger down 8O and 60. 300’ steel never fired and neither did meat rig on 275 dipsey. Took him to a fire dept race last night that we only have here in WNY and Long Island and he flew back to Texas today with his salmon. Thanks to Matt French from Class A Sportfishing for giving me the intel and waypoint to start. I had to pleasure to work with Matt at the end of his career. Great guy!

I went out last night out of Braddocks. It was 66 on surface and had 46 down 55. It was this way all the way from 85 fow to 210 fow. Didn’t mark any bait, very few fish marked except for ones right on the bottom in 90-100 which I am guessing were lakers. Caught 2 salmon in 110.

For water stains on my aluminum boat I make a vinegar/water solution in a spray bottle. 50/50 ratio. My boat is trailered so my water stains are from water spray.

Rick, Do you think the Airmar TM165HW is better than the P66 for trolling on a Starcraft Fishmaster 196 with Helix FF?

Went out on a buddy’s boat that he never tried trolling with but wants to get into spring and fall trolling. Ran 2 dipseys since he had no riggers. No plugs to flatline. Fished 40-60 fow, 4-7pm. 6 fish hooked but only landed 2. Spoons with white cup.

Wonder if it is going to be like a few years ago when people were catching browns left and right and then the week of the derby no one could find them. Think only 5-6 were on the board that spring. Forgot what year it was but wasn’t too long ago.

While putting the fire rescue boat in for the season we noticed a huge tree under the water at the launch. We were able to remove it. We dragged it to the end of the parking lot and let West Point know. It surely would have ruined someone’s day! Have a safe season!

Yesterday afternoon, Lake Shore responded to Hamlin automatic mutual aid for two kayakers trapped on the ice. The victims had Kayaked down Sandy Creek until they encountered ice packing from warmer weather earlier this week. The thawing and refreezing created a 150 foot area of uneven ice covered terrain over rocks and void spaces (picture 1). Once rescuers traversed the flood creek bed, they found the kayakers in a 100 foot wide section of creek with small and large chunks of ice and debris (picture 2). Rescuers entered the water and found swift water / ice water conditions which created a unique rescue situation. Victim 1 was rescued by Hamlin and Lake Shore personal within minutes of arrival. Three Lake Shore Firefighters then traversed the current and ice debris field to reach victim 2. Lake Shore was joined by Hilton Fire personnel in the water and on shore that assisted with victim and rescuer removal from the creek. Coordinated command and operations by Hamlin, Hilton, Lake Shore and Brockport made for a successful rescue. Melting this time of the year can create unique situations in cold conditions. Please be sure of your surroundings before you travel out in the waterways.
