  1. Took some family out to try and find them some browns. Started off with a laker before I had 3 rods set. Fished inside till 8:30 and had 3 browns and 1 laker in 70-80 fow. I was told let’s find some kings, so I changed my program and added some flasher/flys with spoons and added a 300 steel. Caught 3 kings and lost a king in 150 fow. Biggest was 21lbs on mag spoon, silver and purple on 300 steel. Would have bet it was a bow after it jumped 5 feet out of the water way behind the boat. My cousins arms were sore after reeling that fish In on 300 steel. No hits on dispeys, and all spoon bites. Carbon 14 and UV carbon 14 spoons took the majority of the fish. 50 degrees was down 80 over 150.
  2. Get ahold of Whaler. He has an awesome chair on his center console that I have a hard time staying awake once sitting on it.
  3. Do you use it with the 9.9 to help with speed, direction or both when trolling? I have never used anything other then the 9.9 for trolling. Once in a while I will turn big motor on if rough and 9.9 needs some help turning into a wave and shut it back off. Would like to learn about using trolling motor along with kicker for trolling. Thanks in advance!
  4. 24v (80lb) or 36v (112lb) for fishmaster 196? I know I need 72” shaft. Mainly for fishing bass and pan fish. Maybe I will use it for salmon with my 9.9 kicker but mainly for bass. Thanks, Rick
  5. Shawn, I run 6 and if I have 3 people maybe 7. Always 2 dipseys, 2 riggers stacked and just added 300 steel this year. Only bring my top if calling for rain or really hot. If top is open and fighting a fish you can collapse the top and set it on to windshield to give your self more room if needed. Then just put it back when done fighting the fish.
  6. Shawn J, just a suggestion. I have the same boat. I take my Bimini top and clip it in place when on plane. When trolling unclip the front rods on Bimini top. Take 2 sections of a pool noodle and place them on the frame of the windshield. Let Bimini top sit on the windshield on the pool noodles when trolling so it is out of the way. If you have to get to the bow you have to duck under top or just lift it up. Just a suggestion. Good luck and enjoy the boat. Rick
  7. I was running smithwick perfect 10. I don’t know what exact sticks the guys fishing deeper had on.
  8. I fished in a fire dept pike tournament on the 23rd at Conesus. We landed 5 and lost 5 pike. All stick baits in 15-20 fow. The top pike caught were all deep. People were fishing 30-50 fow and using riggers and lead core to target the bigger fish. Hope this helps.
  9. My buddy caught the brown weighed in yesterday. It was his 1st trip out this year and asked me what lures have been hot for me. I said Carbon 14 was good for me on kings. He was in 180 fow fishing for kings right out of Genesee River. Said rigger was out 135. Hit a carbon 14. I tried for browns almost every day and landed a handful of small ones and did lose 2 nice fish but that’s how it goes. 2 days I went deep and fished for kings and got a few with biggest being 17lbs. A week off of work fishing is a good thing.
  10. Launched there this week and tried 3 different cards to pay. All rejected. Got a note on my car when done fishing to call a number and give them my card number. Checked the machine and there was a note on machine saying pay with cash or call a number and give them credit card info. Giving a strange # your card info sounds like a great idea!
  11. He was smarter than me, I tried fishing skinny water all day from Genny to I bay and just washed lures. At least his son got to reel something in.
  12. I thought the same thing when Bill sent me the pic! I said “your favorite fish” lol
  13. Talk with Rick (Yankee Troller). He is a bird expert and also sells that style boat at Krenzer. I am sure he can help. I have a 196 fishmaster but my bird is mounted in the dash. Rick
  14. You did much better than me. Went 4-4 with all fish on stick baits. Nothing on spoons as I tried orange and then green spoons also down 6-8 feet. I also ran chinook diver out 15 with spoons and no luck. I stayed around shipbuilder since I didn’t want to mess with all the boats around Webster, maybe that was a mistake. I worked around 10 FOW and later in morning slide out to 20. The thing I found odd was my speed over ground was reading 2.8 and multiple boats passed me on the troll making me think I was going too slow. I was happy for first trip out boat ran perfect and we caught some fish. Good job and good luck this year.
  15. I must be the odd ball, but I run a clear with disco tape on port and black on starboard. Clear out performs black 5:1 on my boat. Could be the flasher and fly combos I run and not the dipsey colors.
  16. Remington Rifled Slugs for my 870 pump.
  17. When I shot mine on Sunday I thought I missed it when I 1st checked. Shot with 12 gauge at 70 yards with open sights since I was hunting a thicket. Buck jumped after I shot it and ran into thicket where I couldn’t see it anymore. I figured there would be blood all over the snow. Nope, didn’t see blood when I 1st checked and was heart broken thinking I blew my shot at a big one. Upon a closer look I found hair and blood splatter on the trees behind where the deer was standing. So I knew it hit it and there was an exit but there was very little blood in the snow. Waited an hour for buddy to come track with me. Followed the tracks in the snow with very little blood. Now I was thinking I wounded it and that was worse than missing. Buck only ran 20-30 yards in thicket. Double lung shot but hardly any blood trail. Good luck and keep us posted if you find it.
  18. Hunted with the same guys I fished the Sandy Creek Shootout with. I saw over 20 deer opening day with at least 8 bucks I passed up for hopes at one of the 3 bigger ones we have on camera. Changed my spot for Sunday and it paid off. He was with 2 does and luckily only ran 20 yards. One thing I love about hunting is the memories busting balls with the guys and friendships. Love hunting and fishing with friends, a deer or a fish is a bonus.
  19. I fished I bay in a 1st responders tournament. We got most of our bass in the back of the docks on drop shot. We did get a few at the channel markers. Guys who won got most on top water. Good luck!
  20. Been busy with regular job, part time painting job, reffing hockey and Fire Dept stuff. Fished 1st responder bass event last Friday on I bay and finished 3rd but honestly my partner caught more fish than me and saved us. Might try and go out Sat morning before hockey and see if Whaler wants to tag along. Will go out of river and troll J plugs or go off shore. I will post if we have any luck.
  21. I run 2 riggers and stack each running 4 rods total. Then I run 2 dipseys. My lower rod on the rigger is always a longer lead then the upper stacked line. My thought process is I don’t want the lower line coming up and getting into stacked line. If lower line hits I also always clear the upper stacked line. Maybe this is not ideal according to some but works for me. I use Scotty releases to stack lines. Rick
  22. In my defense, I have no issues netting the fish. Keeping the fish in the net after taking the hooks out while the fish is still in the water is a different story! 1 time Bill, 1 time! Lol
