how many you guys pick up??

Looking to get out friday morning.  when you guys are going out the SBH in front of the windmills, are you drifting harnesses or trolling?  how deep?

we used the 13# Atommik torpedos on out Mag 10A riggers.  they were slow as balls, but still got the job done.

love seeing the riggers go, even if they are lakers 

3:52....how common of an occurrence is it for a guy with his...er....rod out...to grab a rigger rod before anyone else??

easiest answer, your local tackle shop (including the sponsors on the site).  Without them, you're paying WAY too much at Gander, Dicks....Plus, the convenience.  Buy from the local shops, and they'll always be around.

Another option for  400' copper is the Okuma Clarion 553ls.  Lower price than the reels mentioned above with 6.2:1 ratio.

i'm not 100% convinced I need my line to disappear in the water.  We caught fish last week on mono and on braid with and without flouro leaders.  From what I was seeing, guess I'll have to pay more attention to how much different the catch ratio is.  When we chose our line this year, we went with something that we can easily see above the water.  If we find we want it to be invisible in the water, we'll throw on a flouro leader.

Wire or braid for divers.  As for rigger rods, if what you have ain't broke, don't fix it.  If you want to switch brands, a lot of people use Big Game, Blood Run, PLine.....take your pick.  We switched from Big Game to Sufix this year because we wanted something lighter and Hi-Vis.  So far, no issues.

If you are fishing a copper down the chute with a fairly experienced crew, and you hook up on another rod, have someone attach a big inline to the chute rod to get it out of the way until you get the fish in.  It's a LOT easier than burning in a long copper all the time.

you keep it or throw it back?  If you released him hopefully he eats like he' supposed to and gets back up there!!

we tried paying last week at the new teller.  Wouldn't take the cash.  Must be working now.

yup.  get to the bar.  Good temp, good water.

Never fished the Bar, and figured now would be the best time to give it a whirl.  We got out late friday night and we finally set up around 530.  Started at the red can and trolled west with our riggers down 40 and 60, with a core down the chute and a three color up high.  We marked a ton of bait with a few hooks and finally got a rod to fire and brought in a teen king.  About a half hour later we got our 50 rigger screaming and netted a 16 pounder, our biggest on our 12lb line (which was pretty fun).  Around 7, we lost a decent king right at the boat, but as soon as we lost it, our core starts taking off.  20 min later we net a 18 pounder.  All hits came on DW Salmon Slapper.  After a good night, we started to head in and motor quits.  Awesome.  We called a buddy to tow us in from 6 miles out.

We spent the next morning working on the boat to no avail.  We ended up going out on our buddies boat Saturday night.  Surprisingly, there weren't many people out.  We worked the same program with riggers down about 50' and full cores pulling the same spoon as they day before and were able to boat 4 more kings in the 8-15lb range.

Sunday morning, people must have gotten word that silvers were here cuz there was a city of boats out there.  Worked the same program we did the last few days and threw in 7 colors on the boards.  We couldn't get a rod to move 'til about 8, but from then on, Salmon slapper and UV Dolphin were CRUSHING on the cores and riggers.  We did 8 kings from 4-16lbs and a handful of mud chickens.  Silvers are back, now go get 'em.

PS Just because you have a 40' boat, doesn't mean you can go wherever you want, like trolling North/South while the fleet is going East/West....

Any updates from anyone out after the 'awesome' weekend?

Proud owner of a Frenchie.  Great dogs, very playful and loyal, but like anything else, do your research.

easy experiment.  have a couple of the same color sticks, pull out the front hook on one, leave it on the other, run 'em the same depth and see if there is a difference pickin' up feesh.

How would these be any different from other electronics on the boat?  As for the size of wire you need, it should be dependent on how long the cable it from the rigger to power source (recommendations are in the manual).

Call me stupid. ... but what exactly does the boom consist of? I keep hearing about it but not sure what it is or where it is?

It is floating barrels in lake Erie between Buffalo and Ft. Erie at the head of the Niagara river.

It is meant to stop the ice from going down the river and into the power generators.
