  1. register the trailer in Main.  It's good for two years, MUCH cheaper, and no inspection required.  Assuming someone takes care of their boat, they also take care of the trailer.  Been doing it for years on multiple types of trailers, never had any issues.

edit.  Whoops.  Just saw Bigfoot's post.  Agree 100%.

  2. I switched to braid and love it. Do mostly erie walleye and caught more fish with riggers this year then years past. One thing I like is if you loose a ball which I did I just tie on another swivel and I am ready to go. It's just so much easier to handle. As far as walleye I would prefer as least resistance/ turbulence in the water as possible.

Not to discredit your experience this year on Erie for 'eyes, but it was like last year for Kings on LO.  It was stupid good this end of the lake.  Anything in the water was getting hit...and often.  Plus if you lost a ball on rigger (running cable), just tie the same wire not you use on your wire dipsies.

  3. Hey John, thanks a bunch for takin me out a few times the last two years, had a great time and always learned something, like how to handle that Tracker in solid 4s the last time we were out.  You still have probably the best story of catching yout first 30lber....solo, and without a net.  that's gunna be hard to top.  Whenever you come back (and we all know you will), you're welcome on the boat anytime!!!

  4. we have a couple of the Cabelas for our dipsies and personally, I like em a lot.  Drags seem nice, and pretty comfortable.  when the spool is full, line counter is accurate.  I only have a few years experience with limited gear, but I would pick up another one of these and not be upset about it.  We've had them for a few years and haven't done any maintenance on them (including drags).

  5. had an incident like the OP a few weeks ago at the Oak.  We  were fishing inside with the pack, and just as we passed the last few boats, we put out one of our boards.  As soon as we put it out we hook up with a king.  While keeping our east troll and getting out of the pack, we see what looked like a charter trolling towards us off our front starboard.  He proceeed to make a b line towards is, go right along side our board and call us a few names for running 1 board...outside of the pack.  he was close enough where he had to lift his dipsy rod so his line wouldn't hit our board.  (keep in mind it's also obvious we are still fighting our fish.)  Once he gets nearly directly behind us, he turns back inside towards his original line.

Based on his "over 30 years experience" (taken from his website), I would think he would have more decency than what he had.  I'm not gunna name the Charter, but was kinda nice when I noticed the GoPro was running and cought most of the action...including the back of his boat...name and all

  6. I can understand people using the excuse that it was 'deep hooked' and keeping it, but I honestly don't think many people would keep a 2# king.  I just hate putting dead fish back into the lake when I could use it on the table...

  7. Not sure if it's been discussed before but looking for your thoughts.  The last few trips, we would have a deeply hooked shaker or two that bleed all over.  We do our best to release them with the least amount of trauma, but no matter what we try or how quickly we try to get em back in the water, they end up not making it.  If you know one of these little guys aren't gunna mate it, what do you guys do?  I know getting caught with an illegal fish is no good, but I'd rather put it to good use rather than just wasting it by throwing it back in the lake.  thoughts??
