I cant think of anyone that isnt using something electronic these days, but many of us remember "fishing blind" I am sure.

The first flasher we had was not very reliable in the 80's, I can remember looking at each other when a DR weight hit bottom, and saying "Do you remember a ledge there?" more than once. Back then we thought nothing of hitting the water without a radio, and cell phones were not around yet either.

Made it out of Taughannock for a bit on Thursday, was calming down for a while, but kicked up again later in the day.

Started the day with a nice Brown, about 5lbs. on the DR set at 50 over 150. Did two LT and one medium Salmon before they shut down. Did not mark any large concentrations of bait or fish, just the occasional few.

All fish hit in the upper 50 feet, most on larger spoons, dark colors except for one LT on an NBK.

And before you say it, you could not pay me cut a rod and fish a twilley tip. Roller rods are so much smoother on the deployment and retrieval.

We dont cut ours, we heat up the tip and pull it off. Twilli goes right on.

Finally ditched my roller tip after a big King destroyed it, and went with Twilli tips. Shoulda done that a long time ago, they work great. If your going with wire, its the way to go.

Well, at least you can get your T-stick back when you hook him again in the tribs.

We were seeing a lot of activiity in the upper portion of the water column too.

Way to hang in there, tough to get them to go sometimes when there is that much boat activity.

Started the day thinking we would work it offshore in search of the steel, but dropped lines in about 100 FOW with a N troll. The morning bite was all spoons off the riggers at 30, beginning with the LT, then a couple steelies once we got out 300+. In the afternoon the bite switched to DD, doing the big steelie in 400+, a skipper King, and a BT on the way in to complete the slam.

Personal best 14 Lb. Steelhead. Wire diver out 75 feet over 400, dragging a black & purple evil eye.

Good that no one got hurt.

He was hooked pretty deep, took me a minute to pry his jaws open enough to remove that MONSTER treble. Line was frayed pretty bad at about 6 inches, maybe a run in with a wire diver?

Dad noticed the fish and swung in to have a closer look, thats when I saw the spots on the Dr. hanging under, got it just before the gulls had their way with it.

Will give you a holler on the radio next time we are up.

Dont be afraid to run a spoon behind one either. 10 feet of floro leader, 17 - 20 lb. works good for us.

Worked hard for them, was out most of the day. 5 Kings, 2 of them around 20. One Coho, 8. Dirty white Boy behind a Dipsy took 2, Bloody death and green J plug also in the mix. Decent screen around 130 FOW, just hard to get them to go.

We use them (DW). Like to keep my leaders light for good spoon action, and I think it helps at the back of the boat when things get hairy. Have only dropped one fish this year with snubber - this rig was not in the water much for us until the 3 rod rule passed.

Got out for a couple hours to break in the new wire rod, need to get it ready for some King action up north. The 57 LC worked great, and the new 10' Ugly Stick was a good choice.

We were marking several bait pods about 30 - 40 feet down, and had set up just under them with one of the rigger lines. After no takers raised it to 30', and immediatley had a release. Assumed it was a Bow or LL, since the probe was reading 69 degrees, but a Laker soon showed itself. About 7 Lbs. on a Black & Purple spoon.
