    TRIP OVERVIEW

    ==============

    Date(s): 8/13

    Waves: 1 - 3+

    Surface Temp: 71

    Location: Straight N of bay

    FISHING RESULTS

    ===============

    Total Hits: 10

    Total Boated: 9

    Species Breakdown: Kings & Steelies

    Hot Lure: Glo Frog

    Down Speed: 2.0 - 2.2

    Boat Depth: 400 - 600?

    Lure Depth: 100 - 125

    ====================

    Stopped in 400 FOW and dropped probe, found 54 degrees down100, so set up on a N troll. Boated 3 small Kings, lost temp so continued N. Waves subsided a bit mid day, was able to run a more consistent spread. Found a pocket of 42 - 48 degree water down 120 somewhere around 500, and set some way points where we saw bait & hooks. After running through them with Spiny/Fly, Dodger/fly, turned around and went back through the waypoints with all spoons and that got the rods moving. First was the 125 rigger, screaming out 600 Ft. of line off the rigger parked at 125 with glow frog SS spoon. Had to thumb the spool to stop his first of 2 big runs. Action was better in the afternoon, went on to boat 2 nice Steelies and 4 more medium Kings on riggers 110 & 125, and wire Mag dipsy, 3 setting out 200 - 250.

    All spoon bite, anything with green in it, all DW SS. Got a little bumpy just before the storm moved in, long ride back to port.

  2. Welcome John.

    We go out of Sodus quite a bit, I believe the launch at the coast guard station is still closed, but the one off Rte. 14 near Margaretta Rd. is pretty good. Read the reports here on this site under South Shore relating to Sodus to keep up to speed with what is going on.

    Good luck.

  3. Tried our luck in the LOU All tourney, fished from Taughannock to AES & back again. It was a slow pick, managed two LT at 7 lbs. each and one LL at 4 lbs. Both LT at 95 on the DR, with FF combos, the LL on the dipsy dragging a spoon around 40 ft. down. The weeds were a constant pain, but happy to see the fleas have subsided.

    Congrats to Chowder & TCON on the win and a good job putting that many quality fish in the boat under not so easy conditions. Wish we could have made it over to Myers to meet everyone, next year for sure.

    Thanks to Splitshot for putting it all together.

    Rented a cottage on the bay and got some fishing in between some mechanical issues and other mishaps.

    Found some BT in some warm water (68) :o ? - biggest was about 8 lbs. Later found some good temps out deeper and hit some small Kings. Mid week started the day with a double: 9lb. Steelie and 15 lb. King, set some way points and worked that area the rest of the week. White & Green FF did many kings just under 20 lbs. Best King was 23 lbs. on the dipsey and a Bloody Death spoon. Midnight special and 22nd spoons did damage as well.

    Hard to keep lines in the water early, then the bite slowed down a bit. Around mid day something smashed the orange stickbait from the board and headed for deep water. After peeling almost 600 feet of line, we finally got lines cleared and chased it down. Took awhile to get it to the boat on 8 lb. test, but the Skipper did a great job on the net and we landed a nice 18 lb. King. Biggest brown was 8, also one Atlantic. Most active fish were in the stained 43 degree water.

  6. They certainly are. Lucky I don't see too many on cayuga. I'm told they were really bad at one point. The Brown we caught yesterday did have a Lamprey mark on it.

    I remember as a kid in the late 70's fishing the lake and the Lampreys were so bad they would attach to the back of our boat. We would keep a rod rigged with a big treble to snatch them up and they went back in minus their head.

    Back then a 30 inch fish would weigh around 3 pounds.

    Are they still treating the streams?

  7. Are you sure it was a lamprey mark and not a scar from fighting or comorant or something?

    BB - That photo is not very good of the top of his head, but one of the marks is very symmetrical & round. It was also small so I believe a juvenile lamprey may have been confused as to where to latch on?

    BG - That ramp/dock/shallow water/rocks are fun to navigate arent they?
