  1. Hey all, I have a bunch of stuff that I don't use. I am just looking to get rid of it all. Everything is used or in used condition. The only items I will not "give away" are rapalas/x-raps and umbrella rig. X-Raps & Clackin' Raps: $3 All other Rapalas: $2 Umbrella rig (Paid $19.99): $5 Everything else: $20 for everything or make an offer for specifics. Buyer pays shipping/handling. http://photobucket.com/ttluresforsale
  2. The site looks great so far, I love how it is so different from most sites. I think it will really set it apart from typical fishing sites. The pictures in the background are a great touch, I am sure that it will be an honor for people to make the cut once they start to change. I also think that logo is pretty sweet, I would definitely order a few decals, could be a good fund raising item! [ Post made via iPhone ]
  3. I heard that the blue green algae is present in almost every lake but that it is only harmful if it blooms, which takes just the right conditions. This came from one of the state agencies a co-worker called to see what the deal was for her camp.
  4. My wife and I went to Playa del Carmen last week and took out a fishing charter. The guys were great and got of us both a nice fish, they told me that nobody had caught a sailfish in over a month so they were very surprised to hook into one. In the first 10 minutes we saw a blue marlin swim by the boat which got me very excited. We also saw two huge sea turtles swimming around.
  5. Funny thing is that I saw your video the other day on YouTube before you joined....beautiful fish man!
  6. I can't comment on the trout/salmon part but all I use are rapalas, besides musky lures. I have never really had any that got destroyed, I fish for all types of fish. I love the x-raps, they work great and are worth every penny. As with most things, I believe you get what you pay for. One thing to help with the cost is to NOT go to the store and pick a half dozen lures because they "look" good or "that should work", I have wasted so much money on stuff like that and have 3 or 4 boxes with lures that I just don't use. Start with the basics, research where you are going to be fishing, what bait is in there, check forums to see what the fish you are targeting are hitting on, and ask locals. I now only use between 4-5 lures depending what I am fishing for so in the spring when I have to stock up it's only a handful of lures. I frequent sites online too almost weekly looking for specific lures I use on sale. One time all the stars aligned and I ended up getting a $100 rod for $60, $20 spool of line for $12, a couple x-raps for $4.99, some spinnerbaits for $1-2 less than normal. I hit the sale when orders over $50 shipped for free and one day only 20% off all fishing. I ended getting everything for over half off shipped to my door. Just start off small, find what works and slowy build your lure collection as you go. Good luck and have fun!
  7. I read that there are golden shiners as well, is that true? I hope so because that's what half of my arsenal consists of...
  8. As far as what happened when I lost that lure I have no clue, neither option seems physically possible but at the same time equally probable. I have thought about going heavier and probably will pretty soon....I have had the casting off of lures a few times due to that and it's like throwing a $20 bill in the garbage I do not use a fluoro leader. I know a lot of you guys use them but I have not tried them. What are the advantages and disadvantages of them vs steel vs no leader. I have an idea but would like to hear the pro's opinions!
  9. I am looking for the primary type of baitfish in Waneta Lake for Muskies. I am a big fan of using the closest I can to what they actually feed on. Any input would be great as this will be my first time fishing that lake and for pures in general. Thanks, Trevor
  10. Thank you very much! I will have to try that out.....looks great.
  11. What knot does everyone use with braid? I am using just the plain old fishermans knot and after a half hour of casting medium sized (lures 2-3 oz) I notice my tag has shrunk some. I have combatted this by tying a regular knot in the tag so it can't pull through. I am almost positive this is what lost my hot lure opening weekend, either thatnor a got bit clean off while my line was slack.... I was mid retrieve, gave a tug after a big pause and absolutely nothing there, no tension no bump, nothing. Anyways, what are your go to knots when using expensive heavy musky lures with braid? Thanks! (by the way I use 50 lb power pro super slick 8 or whatever they call it)
  12. I have had issues with bait casters and drag. They are a lot harder to adjust on the fly than spinning reels are. I fish for tiger musky, I was having the issue where my drag was too low on the hits and I was missing fish more often than hooking them. I kept tightening my drag until I lost two good ones in a row because they took a dive at the boat and the hooks pulled through their jaws. A few more adjustments and I finally had a good setup. Also the drag on a bait caster is not as obvious on a spinning reel, if you go the wrong way with a musky or in your case a salmon, it could go bad real quick. As far as adjusting drag while a fish is on, I would think any reel could do it. I have bait casters from $50-300 and they all adjust on the fly. In your yard tie or loop your line around a tree. Next either walk straight back pointing the rod at the tree or perpendicular would probably be better. Start with the drag loose so it pulls out easily, careful not to tangle yourself up here. As you pull and move away from the tree, tighten the drag and vise versa. This should be similar enough to having a fish hooked to see if it is adjustable. I have been using bait casters for about 5 years now and love them, as mentioned above I am still getting everything dialed in as far as drag but have a pretty good handle on them now.....just takes a lot of practice.
  13. I don't think I will be able to make it during the week, especially after being gone the whole week before fishing, I have a comfy couch but I don't want to be in the dog house for too long. If there is something I can do without making it to the meeting let me know.
  14. I would love to help out in any way that I could, however I live about 15 minutes away from the Otselic Hatchery. The closest place with pures is over two hours away so I have only fished for tigers out in my area. I would love to have a lake in the central ny area stocked with them eventually but it seems it may be better to get the western areas more established first. That being said, and being ~3 hours from Rochester, I would like to join and support through email or other technological means if possible. I have a few more people in my area that would like to also as well as the Albany area. Trevor
  15. I am interested in the spoon and the two above it.....let me know if you are willing to separate. Thanks, Trevor
  16. Has anybody ever fished Paradox Lake north of Lake George? I know it's not in the general area but I am going next weekend with a buddy for some pike. Any input would be great. Thanks!
  17. Anybody see the movie Lake Placid? Haha.......
  18. I have seen this with the tiger Muskies at otisco a lot. We can never tell if they have something in their mouth or not but we always get excited. They also love to "sunbathe" there as well.
  19. I am using braid, I had changed the hooks to sureset ones on two of my spoons, but I lost them, so I was using the original hook on the new daredevil I bought. I am pretty confident where I am the big ones are there also, I had a really nice one on, but I lost it... the weeds still were only a foot off the bottom in 6-13 feet of water so I am hoping they might come into the shallows as you were saying.
  20. Very good point old man.....I think the monster hook set will help out. Even though the one we got was a "team effort", we consider it my buddies fish since he pulled it in. My personal best is about 30", one I lost yesterday was upper 30's and one I lost a few days ago I didn't see but I could tell it was really nice. All the ones I landed were mostly 20-30" with maybe one or two in the teens. I have put my time in....I can def. catch them, now it's just waiting for the big one(s).
  21. The 11 I got was over this past Saturday, Sunday, Monday. Opening weekend was really slow like you said with the weather. Water was 48 degrees for me on opening day and only had one follow in. The following Thursday the water was up to 64 and when I got out there after work the tigers were out "sunbathing" by the dozens....needless to say they weren't too hungry while they were getting there tan on. I am gonna have to get some bigger spoons, bigger/sharper hooks, and set the hook like I'm deep sea fishing.....I love it....thanks all !!!
  22. Nice Ronix, let me know when you go out there. Did you get anything out there on conesus? I am going to try some of the bigger spoons, I didn't know they made bigger ones. I will probably try bending the barbs on the hooks though. My problem isn't with getting them to actually strike it, I will fight them between 10 seconds up to a minute and they just randomly come off. At one point I was 0 for 5 on landing fish I had on for over 10 seconds. I did get 3 or 4 on figure 8/ovals right at the boat which is really awesome in person....especially when they try to pull you out of the boat.
