  1. Launched out of Taughannock at 7:30 cruised to Milliken set up shop. Had the lake to myself! The dink salmon were there and I didn't mark any suspended active fish so I continued North. Ran a ten color and two riggers. Started marking fish down 120-150 so I sent down the Flt custom paddle with a minion DWB fly. Very slow on that setup especially when you are dragging a tiny Laker probably for an hour, lol. Picked away most of the morning two small browns, three bows 3lbers. and three Lakers, perfect eating size. But my best catch of the day came out on front of Taughannock. There was a boat floating toward shore with the motor cover off. Well I would have had time to get into a tree tonight but these nice folks needed a tug to Myers. So it was a fun day and hopefully they pay it forward to someone else someday. No fish pics but couple of others. attachicon.gif1447112002256.jpgattachicon.gif1447112002256.jpg

Way to go !! Not just the fishing but also with taking time to help a fellow boater/fisherman out !! That's the way to do it...

  2. Here's a few pics of some fish caught on Finger Lakes Tackle Spoons... By far the toughest trolling spoon as far as the finish and apearance. .. Bobby puts out a top notch product that can't be beat .... If you don't have any of these spoons you better get ya some!!

  3. Good post all of you guys and thanks for helping out Nick. The lake is not what it used to be and most likely never will be. The problem starts miles from the lake with miles of farm land cleared, drain tile laid in every field every 5 yards and millions of tons of liquid crap pumped on the fields hours before thunder storms. Winery's clearing more land spreading fertilizer, pesticides and what not. Then the same hippy A-Holes go protest a LP storage site its a joke. All that crap ends up in the lake. It all starts with the little things you don't notice. And they are all things that will not change. On the scale of what's important to the state the fishery we love will always get trumped by other things its the same with lake O. All we can do is hope the stocking continues and help out where we can. One thing that totally pisses me off is letting everyone bang on the Bows in the small feeder streams that feed the main creek. That's an easy fix close them. Easy to enforce, if you walk out with a fishing rod your arrested, walk out at night and don't own the land arrested. I caught lots of bows on Seneca this year like I usually do but the Laker and Salmon fishing was poor at best.

    X2

    COULDN'T AGREE MORE !!

  4. Iron duke just wondering where you got your outriggers or if you made them only ones I can find are deep sea.thanks

Are you talking about the trees on the side of the boat?? I don't have outriggers... If you are they are Great Lakes Planners and they are the best in the market and somewhat local to us too... Here's their link. http://greatlakesplaners.com/fishing/

  5. Great job on the bows Mike! We did the same setting up just south of vine valley. We kept it close to the East shore and really did well on the sd fly bite. Used a Seneca special spindoctor and a dirty white boy fly, "thanks minion". Ended up going 7 for 11 on the day and lost two fish that ripped drag and were gone on 5 color core. " Bows" Huge congratulations to Joe Mike and all the teams for a great day and the bows you all brought in were studs! my memory on the lunker is hazy but it was awfully close to ten lbs, nice fish Joe Joe!

We ran that same combo for quite a while with no takers but glad you got it working.. And yes the rainbows were unreal not just the quantity but the quality. ..

WOW that is a brute!!! Congrats on you placement and good luck on Seneca!

    THANKS !!

Can't complain about 9 bow day.

Lol.. I'm was actually getting upset with hooking up with bows because I was struggling with lakers and needed a few .. Probably the only time in my lifetime you will ever here me say that

Hey Mike we saw you at the north end in the AM but we were in close in the grey Penn Yan fishing for perch and it was a good day for us as well :) Man... those jug rigs were almost back to Naples  Nice going on the bows  Guess maybe you guys can see why I had the problem with the one limit on Canandaigua a while back but hopefully it will help out the fishing long term anyway.

Yeah Sk8man I understand but it's a good thing trust me... Having that kind of rainbow fishing on your home lake makes me extremely jealous. . Our club has a one bow limited per team per tournament just to protect them just that much more.. We released all but 1 bow back to the lake

I am a firm believer in the one bow limit but then again I am not a meat fisherman, and only ever kill a rainbow or brown for these tournaments. It is a amazing rainbow fishery and I actually pulled most the spread in just to limit how many we caught once we got the big bow we switched to a simple tree rod spread and began to work for lakers and it paid off some times less is more 😄😄😄😄 and thanks mike it's been a fun year filled with great competition and lots of fun and as you said finger lakes tackle all the way you know it's a good day when you say that's enough of the bows hahahaha let's pull 6 of the 9 rods and fish 3 .... Congrats to all that fished and good luck at the last event!!! attachicon.gifImageUploadedByLake Ontario United1444076352.871979.jpg

Yeah Joe I actually said to Matt a few times awww man another Bow!! Lol... Great job on the decent size lakers, my laker program just wasn't getting it done... Can't wait for Seneca. ..Honestly wish it was this coming weekend cause I have a feeling someone will be doing some big time scouting in the next 2 weeks lol

  6. Launch out of the south end Woodville boat launch bright and early and headed up the east side decided to run north a bit after hearing a report of slow fishing in the south end a couple days beforehand.. We set up shop just before Vine Valley running cores coppers Dipsy's riggers and Rigs. . We trolled till just about after daylight before our first fish hit it ended up being a beautiful 8 + pound rainbow that was an absolute blast trying to get it in on a 5 liter rig... We ran a variation of spin doctors atomic flies and Finger Lakes tackle spoons. The flasher fly bite was non-existent all day but the Finger Lakes tackle spoon bite was on fire for rainbows. We caught 9 rainbows kept one really nice one for our box and released the other 8 to fight another day... We struggled hard to catch lake trout all day long but finally towards 11 o'clock we started picking some up here and there we couldn't find the big ones we were looking forward to help us out on our box so was a bit worried going to weigh in but we ended up 3rd for the day and retain the points lead.... Congratulations to my buddy Joe Solometo (Keeping it Reel) on here In picking up the win and tightening up the chase for the championship. The championship will come down to the last tournament of the year which is Seneca Lake in 3 weeks...

  7. Thanks for sharing. Sixteen boats brought eleven rainbows to scale (limit one per boat per club rules). Owasco rainbows are back!!!!

The catfish I caught was about 10 pounds. It hit a dirty white boy spoon trolled about 50ft down over deep water.......so much for catfish being bottom feeders. Also, I caught it on a rig rod, and I thought I had a big brown, one heck of a fight.

I wish I could have fished............

Scott Bodine caught it and he thought he had the biggest brown of his life on also...

  8. Nice bow Mike. Looked tough out there weather wise and with the front like you said. Congrats on the lead!

Man Mike nicely done on the box, I did the same with glow early and the bite was very slow to start. We started on the North end and the fish seemed to have moved from the previous day. Ended up catching about a dozen Lakers and a nice smallie. Lost our first fish which I am sure was a silver and impressively ended up 13th with three Lakers totaling over 18 lbs. Twelve guys over 20lbs... man I gotta pick up my game...

Thanks mike it was slow until we figured out what they wanted and how they wanted it after that it was game on!!! Hopefully this luck sticks with me for the rest of the year!

Thanks guys... Yes the fish were definitely finicky and we found that almost all our strikes came when we were on a south troll .... On a crappy weather day like that and still have like 10 boats bring in 20lb boxes is still pretty good... Says a lot about that quality of fish in that lake and some of the great fishermen we have in the club

  9. Nice going Mike! beautiful FL rainbow...good luck on Keuka might want to think about "weed guards" when I was over there for a boat ride with friends last week much of it looked nearly unfishable because of them in the Branchport arm all over the surface. Hopefully you folks will catch a break and the current high wind will push the stuff onshore someplace beforehand.

Thanks Les yeah I hope so... Tournament 2 weeks away so hopefully it clears up a bit... I love fall fishing on the Finger Lakes, the fishing is usually decent and the scenery amazing...

  10. Well after a long month off and fishing Ontario for the whole month I was glad to be back on the Finger Lakes.... We left the dock bright and early. We ran to the drop off and set up shop running riggers cores coppers rigs and wires. The water color was pretty green due to algae I believe so decided to run quite a few glow spoons flashers and flies to start. We trolled quite a ways before our first fish so after boxing that lake trout we switched out all the glow stuff for some of our better patterns this year and it paid off extremely well. We ended up in a spot that normally produce good numbers for us but the front definitely had it slow down.. We were still able to pick up 3 decent lake trout and one big 9lb beautiful male rainbow for our box we fell short one fish tried extremely hard looking for that brown trout all afternoon but just couldn't find one... Finger Lakes tackle and Atommik flies got it done for us today... We ended up 7th out of 16 boats and retained the club points lead with three tournaments remaining... Big shout out to Josh Bellis on his first club tournament win way to go Josh!!.. it was a crappy day weather wise but there was some great boxes brought to the club weigh in..Some big beautiful bows brought to the scales today... Awesome job by all the club members who fished and see you all at Keuka...

  12. Yes, I had run into a 35' ledge, decided to pull in riggers and quit, the ten color had been dead all day when it buried and it fought really well. I had the same angry alewife on it with a lighter floro leader. Huge lamprey on him too.

    Not much for fleas.

The lake was almost glass when I left.

Thank you Bobby, Finger Lakes Tackle rules!!
