  1. Congrats! Looks like someone was a sponsor or bought a pack of raffle tickets at an NWTF Banquet this year! We usually fish out of Rochester but will share info if you are ever in the area.
  2. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):4/7/12 Time on Water:5hrs Weather/Temp:Windy/Cool Wind Speed/Direction:N-NW 10? Waves: 2-4' some bigger Surface Temp: Location:I Bay LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits:19 Total Boated:15 Species Breakdown:1 Steelhead, the rest were browns Hot Lure: Gold/White Rapala Trolling Speed:2.0-2.5 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 10' Lure Depth: Surface ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== We launched right around sunrise and headed East out of the bay. We headed right for our marks from Friday night and setup just in time to run over the first one. It was only a 5 minute ride but one of our guests was chumming before I could get all the lines in the water. It must have worked because before I could get the 4th planer line out I was handing him the first rod I set out. He managed to stand up long enough to land a beautiful 9-10lb brown. Great way to start the morning! He forced a smile for the camera and went back to hanging over the side of the boat. We decided to prospect further East rather than circle on our marks and we ended up finding a stretch that was hot. We worked the edge of some brown water in 7-10' FOW and ended up fishing that stretch the rest of the day. It took til 9:30 before I had a chance to get all the lines in the water. We had a steady pick of cookie cutters in the 18-24" range with the occasional fish being better. We ended with 3 fish in the 7-10lb range and a couple in the 5lb range in the boat for our guests to take home. We ran a variety of stickbaits off the boards, 2 per side 120' and 100' back and two off the riggers down 3-5' and back 75-100'. Riggers never fired but that was probably because I didn't loosen the Black's releases from last fall. When pulling up I had to handline in both of my rigger lines because a 3-4lb brown had hit the dirty white boy and proceeded to twist the two rigger lines up all the way back to the boat. He was actually in good shape and I was able to release him quickly and he swam away strong. I said that the gold/white rapala was the hot lure above, but it really didn't matter. We had fish hit everything from the gold/white, gold/black, firetiger, solid orange, chartruese/orange, dirty white boy spoon, etc. I think we had more hits on the broken backs than we did the solid bodies but that is about the only thing that was evident. The seasick guy was a trooper, he never complained out loud and even offered up a joke from time to time. We eventually dropped him off on the breakwall at Hedges for a while so he could take a break. When we went to pick him up, he put his foot on a ledge on the breakwall and as luck would have it, it acted as the bumper between the boat and the wall. Good news is the crunching noise was the trim strip on the bow hitting the wall...bad news is he reported this morning that he has a hairline fracture. The foot pain took his mind off the seasickness for a minute but he was back at it before we could get him back to the bay. He still didn't complain and is looking forward to eating some dramamine and coming out again. At the end we met Mortigan on the docks...it's always great to meet other LOU guys out there. I would have never considered trolling the bay for browns....you learn something new everyday! I know they go through there but I wouldn't have tried it. Kudos for making it happen when it was too rough on the big lake

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Bahtenda ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): Time on Water:2hrs Weather/Temp:windy/cool Wind Speed/Direction:NNW Waves: 3-4 Surface Temp: 45-46 Location: East LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 5 Total Boated:3 Species Breakdown:Browns and a Laker Hot Lure: purple/mirror 4" stick Trolling Speed:2.5 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 10-15 Lure Depth:Surface ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Got out by 4:30, set up right at the channel and trolled East. Hit the first fish around 5:30 on a fire tiger which shook off at the boat, next came moments later on a gold and white J-11 and lost that too. Couple mins later took a 5lb laker on the gold/white J-11 and then two browns 2 and 4lbs on the purple/mirror stick that someone gave me the other day. We called it after that but will be out in the am. [ Post made via Android ]
  5. Cheers...I'm not normally one to rant like that but it struck me wrong when I read your post and felt like I was being accused of being lazy. That's certainly not the case. I usually avoid "forums" because they tend to always turn to the negative and this site has had a pretty good track record of maintaining a postive vibe. Perhaps my post is what turned this negative and in retrospect is a little bit of an overreaction. I apologize for that, I'm partially guilty for doing what I hate. I'm letting this go like a piece of driftwood that slipped between the lines without screwing up the spread. Good luck out there. Fish Junkie....you missed the point of my longer post.
  6. I went out of Ibay two weeks ago and fished for 6hrs and didn't have a bite, and neither did any of the other boats out there. Then I got home and read reports of guys killing them out of Sandy and all the other ports. Why wouldn't I want to know if the water out of the bay is gin clear if the water up at Sandy is still stained and holding fish? Unfortunately, gas IS a huge factor for me and my crew and when we are going fishing we want to be in the right place at the right time. I have a sickness that requires me to spend a lot of time scouting turkey and deer which allows me to be more successful than the average joe/weekend warrior consistently every spring and fall. I can't turn that switch off. However, it gets turned off when it comes to fishing and it's going to cost me $100+ in gas each weekend. I also take a lot of first-timers out and time is of the essence when trying to keep them from getting bored. I can only tell so many jokes and stab myself with hooks so many times. I love adventure, trust me....any trip on our boat is an adventure! This amazing website has allowed me to be successful, and I am always anxious to participate by reporting what we do. I hadn't fished LO for 12+yrs until last year and the learning curve was shortened substantially by LOU. Did we go out and have record catches? No. Did we do as good as the charters and more experienced guys? No. Were we on par with the group of fisherman that use this website as a whole? YES! I'm not looking for shortcuts here, I'm just trying to maximize my time and money to do one of my favorite things. So, don't pass judgement so easily. Just because I read where other people are doing good doesn't mean I'm going out there and crushing them also. This is merely another exercise in gathering "intel", as I'm sure it is with many others on here. Sorry for the rant......
  7. I need to have removable downriggers and this past year I wired in cigarette lighter outlets on the boat and plugs on the riggers. By the end of the season they were getting rusty and would periodically stop working. What do you suggest as a better alternative and where might I find it? Keep in mind, I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible and cost efficient. I'm going to do it myself and I don't want to spend a fortune but I also don't want it to look like crap. Thanks!
  8. How did the water look while you were out there last night?
  9. I've been one of the lookers, but I haven't been out to post anything yet. We'll be out Saturday morning but I'd like to hear some reports out of the Roc area so I can feel better about not running up to Sandy or elsewhere to follow the reports.
  10. We'll be sneaking under it in a 20' Outrage Sunday morning, we'll just have to put the planer mast down first. Can't wait!!!!!
  11. Is the bridge opened up or are you guys slipping under it?
  12. Nice Bruce! I was at Bristol and when I saw your facebook posts on Friday. I almost jumped off the lift (would have if there was some snow below me). Brian
  13. Very true, I have tunnel vision and it focuses on Rochester! [ Post made via Android ]
  14. The king fishing gets really good mid to late July and goes right til the fall run up the rivers.
  15. Oh man, I can't wait! Thanks for posting this question, I was curious too.
  16. I got an Accudepth 47LC for Christmas. Will I be able to put enough wire on it to run a wire dipsy setup? It says it will hold 280yds of 0.45 mono. If so, I will probably buy a match. Any suggestions for type/length of backing, type/length of wire? I'm also gonna need suggestions for rods to put these on. [ Post made via Android ]
  17. The inside of a whaler is filled with foam, so it's going to be pretty difficult to do anything underneath
  18. I fish on a Boston Whaler 20' Outrage. The rails around the bow and the console are loosening up because the screws are pulling out of the fiberglass. What do you suggest as a remedy? I was thinking about using metal anchors and new screws for the metal to fiberglass and then just using a slightly larger threaded screw for the metal to metal points. Thanks for any suggestions you can provide!
  19. Hey Mike! I actually have a slicer, but I'm not experienced with curing and smoking. Sorry to hear about your deer season, mine wasn't that great either. Bow was fun, I hate gun season though. Did you see the pics of the buck that was shot across the road from where you.hunt? [ Post made via Android ]
  20. Anyone know of a processor who will make chipped venison (as you would add to bisquits and gravy or a bread boat dip) in the Rochester Area?
  21. Had plans for a while to take a guy out Saturday so we stuck to it, despite the horrible weather. Launched at the South end and set up once we hit 100' FOW. Ran 2 dipsys and 2 riggers (2 lines stacked). Landed a 15" brown off a chrome flasher/white fly 120' back on a mono dipsy. Next fish was a 15" bow on a white glo/green crush stinger parked at 85'. Next hit was on the other dipsy, a Mountain Dew SD/green hammer fly back 160' on mono. This fish was ripping drag and then it jumped....we all saw how big it was, and then the line went slack. First time all year this happened, but my swivel between the dipsy and leader to SD bent open all the way. As I was reeling in the dipsy, we watched as that giant bow jumped around on the surface trailing the SD....feel horrible about that. I'd settle for losing the SD if I knew that fish wasn't still tethered to the darn thing. The fish looked to be in the 8-10lb size class. Continued north in 180' fow for while, turned and went south with no action, then crossed lake to the West side, trolled north with no hits, then back south with no hits. Picked up around 12 and realized we had been dragging a small laker on one rigger (42 second NK28) and then pulled the other rigger to find a waterlogged rainbow on the white glo/green crush spoon on that one too. Should have checked those riggers more, but we were so attentive to them we couldn't imagine missing a fish on them. I even loosened up my releases as I set them. Good last trip of the year....good luck to those that make it out this weekend. Looks like it's going to be nice!
  22. I worked it out so I am free tomorrow morning until I have to pick my brother up at Noon at the Rochester airport. I really want to fish but all my friends have to work. My boat or yours...doesn't matter. I just want to get out for a morning trip while I have the opportunity. Brian
  23. We ran straight to 500 FOW this am, and it was slow, but we were marking bait and fish consistently at 100. Caught 1 steelie on a kevorkian at 130' on the rigger and we had a double with little kings off the same rigger. One was a bloody death at 120 and the other was a glo frog at 90. Had a couple other releases, but nothing there when I grabbed the rod. might try this afternoon again, maybe go for browns if I can find them.
  24. Wayne, I'll be heading out of I-Bay tomorrow am. I don't have a probe, so I can't help you with temps, but I will be on CH 68 and will share any info I have if you want to get ahold of me. Boat name is the Bahtenda. I plan on checking for bait and fish in 100-200 and if nothing is showing I'm gonna try to make the run out deep. Hopefully we'll get a good lead or two on this post. Good Luck, Brian
  25. Got out on Cayuga for the first time on Saturday. Camped at the state park and launched at Dean's Cove at 6am. Ran South about halfway to the point and setup in about 240 FOW. Dipsy on mono back 140' on a 2.5 over 320 FOW with a white/green dot SD/green hammer fly took a 4.5lb LL to start the day. Almost lost it as it went between the rigger cable and the boat because I panicked like a rookie and dropped the net to grab the line and pull it out, but the guy on the rod did that for me and when I went to pick up the net it was all tangled up on the cranks of the rigger rods Got it out, netted the fish, took the heat for that the rest of the day Second fish was a long but skinny 5lb. laker on a 42 second DW down 90 over 170 on a rigger. The laker fooled us....I felt a fish as I grabbed the rod, handed it to him and nothing, figured it was some of the weeds that caused us so much trouble all day, so I put the net back...then the fish decided to jump out of the water about 40' back....and the game was on! It fought real good and eventually we netted it. The rest of the day we had a slow pick of small LL's and landed one more small laker to make our total 6 of 8 landed for the day. The first fish was the only dipsy/FF bite we landed. The rest came on spoons off the rigger, a couple on the 42 second, a couple on a pinkish purple and black spoon with a lazer ladderback...not sure what that one is called and had one on a black NK28 with a purple stripe. Went out again 8am-12 on Sunday but never had a release or bite we could say wasn't weeds. Thanks to the Hannah Marie for chatting quickly with us on the radio. I knew we were in the right place when I saw that boat after reading his report from the end of the week. Back to the big lake this weekend!
