  1. A snow doesn't decoy anything like a canada does up here. You need to be able to reach out and get em and the pmaster/blind side combo is deadly. Like previously stated, why put time and money into scouting, traveling, decoys... only to skimp on the most important thing to have when it comes to putting birds on the ground

  2. As much as I agree in principle ZB (in fact I would be all for muskies in there on the same rationale) warmwater stocking resources are relatively limited vs. The amt of coldwater fish the DEC pumps out. So to put some of those precious few eyes into a lake that is HP restricted is essentially putting them off limits to many fisherman when there are so many other lakes that could use some or more than they are currently receiving.

The accessibility is a good point never really thought of that. I would like to see some data regarding survival rates of walleye in honeoye considering they stock it with 8.7million fry yearly and with those numbers you would think honeoye would be a much better walleye lake than it is. I wonder what the survival rate would be like in a much cleaner lake that isn't nearly as pressured and polluted as honeoye

  3. Their reply would be " we don't want to mess with trout lakes" just like all the rest of the lakes in this state. Trout is the #1 priority for them even though I bet most guys would rather have eyes. I approached them once and that is basically what they said. (DEC)

What got me was while reading through the last dec evaluation of the lake, a majority of the people they surveyed were fishing spring water creek for trout. As well as people paying out of their own pockets(springwater gun club) to put walleyes in there so there is clearly a demand for a more diverse fishery with walleye in there. There are enough trout lakes seneca,daigua,canadice,keuka,cayuga,otisco... and the only one with a good fishable population of eyes I can really think of is oneida. Honeoye(my home lake) is a joke between the bg algae, pleasure boater. Yes you can catch a decent amount of eyes but 50% of the ones you catch are about as thick as a cigar. Hemlock would make for a prime walleye lake with all the food and gravel and clean cold water.... end rant

  4. Just got into trolling this year and have done well with the lakers and have them dialed in prett well. Generally 2mph and suttons/ white and green colored lightweight spoons fished with a 20' or so lead near bottom have produced. Only landed 1 rainbow on hemlock in close to 30 trips out, what should I be doing when I wanna target the other trout? Pm me if you don't feel like posting I know most that fish these lakes are pretty tight lipped

  5. I

Yes, some pretty big walleyes do come out of Hemlock. There are a couple of postings in the "LOU archives", with pics. Also some in the New York Outdoors News....And it does seem they are caught incidentally to trolling for salmonids.

There are guys down there trolling exclusivey for eyes, got the program down and they are boating giants. just don't post

anymore. There cannot be many left considering the lake was stocked long ago and I highly doubt they get tossed back

I wonder if the dec would rethink the walleye stocking if enough people got together.

  6. Hi how are the algae blooms on Honeoye right now, I would like to get down for some bluegills and pumpkinseeds but its a bit of a drive for me and I don't want to burn a trip. When is it a safe bet overall to avoid the algae in the fall? late September maybe? thanks

I went out for a bit last night and the smel alone was enough to gag me. I could smell it while getting gas in town. Ill post some pics tonight if I swing by the lake. It needs to cool down a bit and at least a few weeks before I would attempt to eat anything from the lake. Off to candice for a while

  7. I was doing a final scout of a field I had permission to hunt only to find out there was another group that had permission to hunt it ( landowner confusion). The competition for fields has gotten to be severe and it's become increasingly difficult to find places to hunt if you don't rent or own the land. There also seem to be few locals in the field and I have no birds for the opener tomorrow. Things do seem to get a little easier in the late season when there are other things to hunt and lower bag limits.

Same thing down here in the fingerlakes. 6 years ago we never had an issue getting permission. Now everyone wants lots of money for a lease or something along those lines.

  8. Its unfortunate the DEC won't let the rod n gun club stock walleye in hemlock anymore. I think it would be awesome if hemlock had a fishable population of eyes.

  9. Hey guys, I am looking to purchase Duck Hunting equipment. I am buying a chocolate lab puppy this Sunday. I am an avid duck hunter and killed many many birds over the years but 2 years ago some unexpected bills made me sell most of my equipment. I am looking for mainly Diver Decoys, MoJo Ducks, a boat and trailer set up, anything you may have. I also have quiet a few things to trade as well. Let me know what your in the market for.....

  10. Well I wouldn't use 10 lb line as a backing, if you get into it and something snaps it'll be that and you'll lose the fish, terminal tackle and all the braid. If you can afford it go all braid or use 30 lb Big Game.

Thanks hermit ill get some 30lb for backer. I wanna be able to pull cranks in the spring for walleye with this rod as well otherwise id probably go all out with a wire/dipsey setup

  11. thinking about adding another rod to my small arsenal. I'm thinking of getting another okuma glt combo specifically the 8'6 medium action with the magda pro 30sized reel. I'd like to give some of the 001 dipsey divers a try for candice and hemlock trout. If I back the reel with about 200' of 10# big game and then 150 yards of 30lb Powerpro will that be sufficient for the smaller fingerlakes? would I need to run a snubber or are those more for the bigger fish on the bigger lakes. I have a few dicks sporting goods coupons and gift cards and am on a tightish budget so if this mentioned setup will work I'll be happy

  12. Hi guys. Hot off the press. John Gaulke just texted me that this am there is a hot bite going on on north end of Seneca across from Belhurst Castle. :o I launch at Chamber of Commerce in Geneva. If you want monster LT (28- 34") on jigs that is the place to go when they are hitting. For whatever reason the hot bite is about 3 weeks late compared to my experience over the last 3 years. Do not need treble hook/tube/bent hook jig for those big boys when they are cooperating. They will gooble the whole jig. Would start with chartreuse fluke. They love them. Also paddle tails and tubes work. Would motor to 120 fow water then drift back to 45 fow if wind out of south. (opposite if from north) Check ff to see at what depth most LT blips show up and concentrate on that depth. Of course my wife and I have an out of town trip planned until early next week. ;( But it is to see my son so it is good. ;(

Is this spot accessible from the north launch by the hotels in geneva? Thinkin about making the trip but am only equiped with a 9.9 horse on a 16'er
