  1. looking (hopefully) to take the boat out next weekend. i would love to launch the boat near toronto island and stay out till about 11pm. looking for boat ramps but dont find much. i looked in the ports of call section and there is 3 around there. im mainly interested in humber bay but i didnt find any info on it?? is there a ramp for public use around toronto island?? any pictures, info?? prices?? and what time gates (if any) close at?
  2. little windy today! musta been fun out on the water lol but nice fish!
  3. well it may have been said/posted before. i have see people have a plate on there cavittion plate that they fold down over the prop to troll with and up to go all out speeding. what i did because it was free for me lol was get two 5 gallon buckets (square works best) and drilled two 2'' holes in the bottoms of each and 2 holes at the top for rop to pass through and tied on release clips to clip on the transon hooks/eyes. my boat is a 16' tri-hull bow rider with a 50 horse evinrude. before at idle my lowest speed was about 3.9mph now with these buckets thrown out i had to give a little bit of power to maintain 2.9mph. pic: this is only pic i got sorry for ow
  4. nice day man! i can wait to get back out this saturday as long as it it is supposed to be sunny still!! today was awfully hot to be on the water but at least it looks like it was worth it for ya! i thought the fish would be down a alot deeper with it being so bright and hot today
  5. that and maybe add on a thread of the list of dates when people are going on the lake as well. say make a thread like ''may 26, 2012'' i whoever going to lake ontario today and phone number is ........... call to meet up for a day out or call incase of emergency. though i dont think it would be very successful it would be nice and handy. anything can happen even to the most prepared people and being stranded on a big lake is a worrysom thing especially if bad weather could hit within a couple hours
  6. Don't need a license is this a serious answer or just joking??? i always heard and read one is needed to operate a vhf? or do you only require a license to radio the coast guard??? i would love one and if no license is required i will buy one asap just for the reason of this thread!!
  7. didnt know what a lamprey was but heard alot of talk about them... decided to look up pictures of them so i know what they are and all i have to say is THANKS!!!! im probably going to have nightmares of those things!! they are kinda scary looking
  8. thanks for all the answers guys im sure it has been asked before but this is also one question everyone should see and know what to do... its a big lake. and yes im canadian side and use the burlington/oakville ramps. i dont got a VHF yet as you apparently need a license to operate it :/ i got only one engine until i can afford a kicker!!. i have been looking up towing companies for the great lakes and might join up if its really worth it!! one scare i had this past weekend is i was out only about 2 miles and i turned off the engine and tried starting it and NOTHING starter wouldnt turn no nothing. well seeing as i have some mechanical background i decided to tap on the solenoid and she fired up right away. biggest p-off about that is the solenoid is brand new!!!! my local boat mechanic says its not uncommon that he has had a few new solenoids defective
  9. so i want to go out far off shore well within reason maybe 4 miles max to where its about 200 feet deep. i have a boat but only has 1 engine which so far has been proving itself reliable but anything can happen. if i were out and i break down with no backup power source is there anyone i can call? i use the burlington/oakville ramps. coast guard? maybe a company like caa to tow us home??
  10. did it ever! after those 2 fish and being out in such a big lake makes me feel more connected to fishing here in ontario now as i was always and still am a die hard saltwater fishing guy more so down in florida
  11. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): sunday may 20 Time on Water: 12 hours Weather/Temp: sunny, calm winds 30 degrees Wind Speed/Direction: 10kmh max? Waves: glass to half foot Surface Temp: 59 degrees Location: skyway bridge port LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 2 Total Boated: 0 Species Breakdown: steelhead/rainbow Hot Lure: northern king watermelon / williams wabler wrinkle gold/silver Trolling Speed: 2.9mph Down Speed: Boat Depth: 80-100 feet Lure Depth: 25 feet ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== very first time on lake ontario and using luhr jensen size 0 dipsies i set out to about 25 feet depth in 80-100 feet of water, used a williams wabler and NK watermelon spoon. first fish hit at about 3pm and i underestimated the power of these fish (steelhead) i was using 15 pount big game mono with stren 17 pound fluoro leader. fish hit and hit HARD made a big jump out the water and was at least 15 pounds and snap!!! lost my lure with it second fish was caught using the wabler at approx 5pm same diver and rod, i had the diver set to about 35 feet and was reeling it in to try a depth of 20 feet and while reeling in the drag just starts screaming!!! this made a big jump out the water as well and once again SNAP!!! took my second spoon!! stayed out till 830 and headed in. things learned:: need more spoons, stronger line/leaders, and not to underestimate the power of these fish. im used to catching bass and small pike and not even pulling drag on 8 pound line, im used to only saltwater fish pulling this hard. first fish was PEELING line like no tomorrow on 15 pound until she finally snapped the 17lb fluoro
