  1. when is the captains meeting??? when is the final day i can register?? i really want to be in it!
  2. thats the only reason i got something smaller... i had oppurtunities to get up to 24 footers... towing, gas, insurance just everything gets very expensive and towing large loads puts alot of stress on the truck
  3. my current boat is not the one in my display picture btw... thats my old one lol was a 16' trihull and can snap your neck in rough waters!
  4. always depends on boat.. a shorter (18') but not as wide with a deep v could handle waves more... but if its really wide like alot of new fishing boats these days it can get pretty rough as you not so much slicing through rather than riding over them and pounding on them.. alot of newer fiberglass boats these days are not built with thick fiberglass to. i have seen new boats and the fiberglass was thin and flimsy but the one i got from the 70's the fiberglass is extremely thick and solid as a rock. mine is a 19 foot deep v hull and really thick fiberglass that gives it extra weight and its not very wide (7 feet) and handles rough water great. its a closed bow but the bow is short and i have 2 little seats mounted at the front and the whole rear of the bot is wide open. it isnt a big boat but because of how i have it set up it is very spacious and handles great.
  5. do you have or are you able to get a portable electric heater or propane heater?? not a small one but one that will radiate lots of heat over the entire transom?? that would work really well to distribute the heat evenly just dont have it so close that it will cook the transom.. just enough to make it warm for a duration of time
  6. woo!!! another canuck!! there doesnt seem to be many on this board lol whay kinda rig you fishin from?? where do you usually launch out of?
  7. i try to go as slow as possible i will thumb it but i usually let out about 10-15 feet at a time slowly and hold for a sec so they can work there way in the position they want to run. but when your letting line out on 3 dipsys up to 300-350 feet each you tend to try and do it quickly
  8. ^^ that should work. its better to not run all the same size divers.. run 2 bigger ones that go deeper than the other 2 and you may have success... all i know is i didnt.. but especially running 3 or more divers you really have to make sure your turns are looooong and slow!
  9. 9 feet of water??? thats pretty shallow... lol if you want trout and salmon go a little deeper! all i ran last year was spoons and 3 lines out at once. spring time and may we slaughtered them! watermelon took most rainbows and orange took the kings and coho. later in the year though spoons didnt work well at all. spring time we were getting 9-13 hits a day
  10. if im reading right you want to run 4 dipsy diver total off the back? 2 on each side? maybe someone wil say different but i tried that last year and was a tangled mess. i ended up running 3 dipsys off the back successfully though. 1 straight down the middle and 1 off each side on the number 3 settings and thats the max i would do. imho if you want to run 6 rods (like i am planning to do) run 2 riggers, 2 dipsy divers on the number 3 settings and run a planer board on each side about 100-150 out running wire or leadcore on those.
  11. wow! thats a nice fat brown!! thats still one fish i have never caught yet. nice catch!
  12. anybody use the yeck weenie weights? shaped kinda like a banana... i need some weights for my new downriggers and trying to set it up to get the least amount blowback possible. weenies are like torpedos but dont know how well they track or what the blowback is like??
  13. me to!! i been looking for 2 12pounders myself
  14. its actually at the shop right now getting new stringers, floor, engine rebuild, and lots more and a gas tank is what they recommend but not required because 1. seems like the seal is leaking and being its so old the bolt pattern isnt the standard 5bolt and the fuel sender isnt working properly and again with its age a new sender cant be fit into it due to its design. 2. im putting a vinyl floor instead of carpet and its all being laid in one piece so it will be good to have a new tank as to not worry about something happening to it
  15. you can buy counters and springs from various other brands... bih jon being one of them depending what style and how it is you may be able to retrofit one if needed
  16. what side you on? canadian or state side?? we need more canadians!!! lol
  17. hey everyone. does anyone know of any companies/brands for an underfloor gas tank?? i keep try to research but only ever find moeller... my current tank is 23 gallons and measures 61L''x5H''x18W'' and is plastic but i got room to downsize and upsize a bit.
  18. i to am curious as well. i was going to start using meat rigs this year and stumbled upon sheltons fbr... i wonder how well they work in lake O.
  19. aww and i was going to specifically target them this year lol but hey i have heard of sharks being in there but im pretty sure none actually exist in them lol
  20. i dont plan on buying a black box but even with a boat setup properly it supposed to generate naturally up to .6-.7 volts positive on the rigger cable naturally?? i read to connect a wire from negative side battery to all metal parts that may be submersed in water? thats true? so run a wire from negative wire from battery to the garboard plug and to the engine and transom assembly of the outdrive? is this correct? is there any difference in voltage output between using navalloy and zinc anodes?
  21. apparently it is detectable up to 300' even fish like sharks can pick just a miniscule of a volt from very far away. fish are more 'advanced' than most people think i guess
  22. ok... so i just start reading yesterday about electrolysis, anodes, voltage and fish. i never knew such thing existed lol reading up on scotty's black box they are mentioning anodes that creates voltage and makes stainless downrigger cable become a positive voltage? for setting up a boat they also mention a hull bonding wire?? so to set it up properly i have a alpha 1 outdrive and merc 140 inboard engine, a brass garboard drain plug and a plastic fuel tank mounted in the floor. the transom hooks are stainless steel. how do i set this up?? run a wire from the negative terminal of battery to the garboard and engine and the inner part of the outdrive thats inside the boat?? what about the fuel tank? its made of plastic but the topside fuel sender unit is obviously metal but in no way it touches outside the boat. what about anodes and creating a good voltage in the water so the rigger cable gets good POSITIVE voltage?? im supposeded to use navalloy but they keep mentioning using zinc anodes. do different types of anodes affect the voltage much?? how about using coated stainless rigger cable or powerpro braid downrigger cable? i have read mostly mixed reviews but still have read that negative voltage can actually drive away fish from biting but positive voltage on the rigger cable has made fish bite all day everyday. i just want to set my boat up properly and have success catching this year. last year was fairly slow for me except a couple days.. boat is fiberglass and im using for first time this year downriggers which are manuals not electric
  23. i wonder how hard these would be to crank up on a manual downrigger?? hmm..... really interested in one. would you ship to ontario canada?
