  1. Ohhh yea...Its April fools day lol...Here is reality.

Honestly I think its at least 3 weeks out before its even safe to consider. Im still more concerned about floating debri in the water. Theres gotta be a lot of shore damage out there with all this ice.

It has melted some, problem is it is still cold enough to slow it down until night time. We really do need a good week of 60's then the problem gets solved...but thats a long shot as I look at the next 10 day weather out look...

Believe me I like the april fools senario better...lol but it looks like mother nature is fooling us now....stay tuned .....

  2. Yes thanks Mr clean, if you can walk out there with an auger and give us a ice thickness report..don't forget to set up some tilts.

Sent from my VS980 4G using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Lol heck they are still full force out in the bay. There are tents just inside the chute to the right in about what I conceive to be about 20 feet deep area. Plus they are still running sleds from one end of the bay to the other. the chute was completely froze over absolutely no water movement whatsoever....

Here is Fair Havens NOAA weather..

Its gonna have to really warm up to move this stuff...

  3. Well I went up today and there is ice like ive never seen it...

If you look in the distance that is all ice. The photo was taken well beyond the normal shoreline from the pier...

This is very thick ice it mels some during the day but refreezes and is actually expanding at night. If you look in the distance you see blue but I could see a steady line of white well beyond indicating a hole if you will meaning it is still frozen out deeper....

Im thinkin mid April, the bay is still fully froze I would be concerned even after "iceout" because I would think serious debre as well.....stay tuned I guess...

  4. Im quite confident that by the end of April we should have ice out particularly in the bay. My concern as it always is in the Spring is floating ice that does drift throughout the GL system. However this year I have a higher concern for it. First off I am no meterologist lol. but its no secret the great lakes (system of lakes) is 90 percent frozen over. If you look at the sat images you see Ontario is pretty much that 10%  portion of not so frozen over,  which makes sense because its the deepest lake of the system. Sure Michigan might not have ice out in April, Maybe not erie but once they do break up floating ice will be a problem and I could see that....effecting us as well so basically I am paranoid out there (so to speak lol) until mid May for floating ice plus you know when we get a hard winter like this has been debre as well floats around maybe a little more this year than last....we shall see.

Hey my little boat could be an ice breaker but honestly and I am serious I believe someone stole my boat the third week in November because it is gone...It was where I always kept it turned upside down then it was gone just like that. I looked all over lol I mean ALL OVER LOL...The marina didnt touch it and I cant think of any reason it would have even been moved. My only thought is locals snagged it because of the aluminium ?? but if anyone in the bay sees the mpd boat cleaner skiff thats mine lol....It is a sentimental boat to the bay, its an original from the boathouse marina back in the 50's and it should remain where it was......hopefully there is some logical conclusion and it will show up lol..

Its funny ive snowboarded/skied as long as I fished I gotta be honest I love em both and its a good thing they are in separate seasons lol...Im a guide during the Winter. I take people on snowboard/ski trips. Heres a vid from last weeks back country trip.

But I think we should be looking good toward the end of the month...at least a start anyway....

  5. Well I go away snowboarding for 5 months and its nice to see warm weather. I was going to put my boat in tomorrow and go hammer em (jk) lol. But hey were gonna get a foot of snow tomorrow they say lol. This Winter was a good one. Still plenty of snow and ice on the lake. It is warming though so soon enough we should be back on the water ....

Heres a stoke vid from last year(which really wasnt that far back) to get you goin lol...CU soon...

  6. Last Sunday they were still in there. That Tuesday earlier they were backs on top of backs in the shoe. Im going back up tomorrow to close the boats and see if they are still there. I would like to think if they are they are pretty spent...lol but one never knows...

    Wind was brutal today lol...

Heres a short clip courtesy of st mag on some of the fun we have been having

  7. Boy what a blast!. Basically the kings have moved in and continue to do so. Big ones all close to 30lbs. If you fish the chanel that goes into the pond at the state park they are there. Kings jumping around inside the chute as well. In our marina they are right at our docks. I went 4 for 9 since Friday (photos to come) other neighbors pulled out big kype jaw males. Nice and black the way we like em lol.....

It should get even better over the next week or so.

  8. Yup no problem guys. Like I said hopefully they turn on maybe by the end of this weekend. With this Fall pattern weather wise forming the switch should turn on real soon. Ive got my smaller boat ready to hammer em once they move in the bay lol...

Some other locals said they have seen a few "swarmers" inside but until we see them jumping no reason to get excited.....

Ohhh and this goes out to anyone who still has their boat in the water, specifically if you have not been to your boat since labor day and maybe are not close to it ....You should make sure your battery is still charged. Reason being we have had a few boats start filling up with water because the battery dies due to the cold nights and then the bilge pumps dont work and the next thing you know, water has filled up the dog house...This can be a problem particularly for I/O's where the water line fills up above the oil pan...

So check your boats or have someone do so....

  9. Boy what a beautiful Fall day it was yesterday! The lake level has dropped and the hole is full of jumping fish. I got out there, the place is stacked and I had one on as I made my first pass thru. I think I hooked it in the back because it just didnt want to come close. I fought it for abit then she said later lol....I also picked up some on the finder just inside the chute. I would say in the next week or so they should be moving in steadily and we should be having a blast!

A couple of guys went deeper for cohos but to no avail which is common...Hopefully some of those bad boys follow the salmon in...we shall see....but the big blacks are getting ready....stay tuned..

  10. Lol....."Cant we all just get along" lol

Well I will say this, 6 pages, a lot of views going on lol....I would say fishin season is coming to the end for alot of folks lol...

Your going to find good and bad in any business, be it a sporting/recreational industry like we have here or any other industry such as law enforcement, the stock market, private enterprise etc.....

Certainly this thread cannot be a true overall representation of the charter business nor the recreational boater.

With that, ive been around for awhile lol and Ive always boiled down these types of situations to two scenarios..

    1) Competitiveness....Thats a major issue,  Sometimes competitiveness can be a prelude to cutting people off, fowl language (which hey dont throw the stone on that one) muscling through crowded areas, Launching scenarios of parking wrong and not caring much about others and even monetary investments for tournaments yet alone the desire to win the big prize and get all that glory lol.......

    2) Travel distance: I dont mean to offend anyone, but I live here, many of you dont and many of you come from very long distances, some over 5 hours to get here, Many of you bring your own equipment and the financial toll on that, along with the physical drive toll of up and back, all that makes a difference and once your on the water.......you didnt go thru all that way for nothing....particularly when you bring people to "catch" them this...

The thing ive learned is that the lake will be here many more years than I ever will be. I dont own it but I do respect it. When I am out fishing or even just drifting watching the sun go down i fully understand the respect I have for the water.....and for those who share it with me.....

  11. I still use shad raps lol....anything that will get em pissed works at that point lol. Ive settled out on hot n tots. And the funny thing is the hooks are right in the mouth. they hate em lol...

But im sure you will see something going on in the rivers. You never know ive seen em move in over night in Oswego.

The lake is calming down so hopefully wednesday we can hit our hole and see what happens lol..

good luck if you go in the rivers, should be fun like you said

  12. Right about here lol

    king.jpg

Its located right outside the chute at Fair Haven NW about a 1/4 mile out. Depth wise it goes from 30 feet to 56 feet in a radius thats pretty big. Once your past it heading N it goes back to 28 feet but for years we fished it this time of year because the salmon school in there before they begin their run.

I dont think there are alot of fish in the Oswego river right now. That I would typically start fishing in about 2 weeks from now (thats just me). I love fishin the locks once they start running in the river...

But like I said the last few years we had a real salmon run in Fair Haven. All those feeders come back and we will continue to go out deep for fish but realistically the fun is in close this time of year....

If we dont do well in the hole were gonna attack just inside the chute... we shall see lol

  13. Ohhh thanks guys and its great others post in here too! Glad to see it work out. But there is still more fishin to go lol. I know many pull their boats out after the 1st but really once they school up in the hole area we could be doing some nice fishing really in close particularly inside the chute...Since they started that feeder project the salmon now run in right up to the docks lol...hopefully anyway lol...

But there is more time and we shall keep at it lol....hopefully for the better of course...Im going back out Wednesday after this stuff moves thru....cause i liked what I saw in the hole....
