  1. Idea.......how about a LOU log app where each signed in member can post an entry into a log, yet that log would be private (to protect our secrets) and individual data would only be available to the member but each field could then be combined to provide statistical data on a lake wide level. This disaggregated data could then be analyzed and distributed.

  2. Here is my understanding, feel free to correct any inaccuracies as I may of interpreted something wrong or have a bad memory.

Short story is catch rates were above long term average. Rates for Kings were overall above average but depending on were and when you were fishing you could have poor rates, with middle of summer being on the low side.   I believe in all cases of salmon and trout species while the catch rate was above long term averages

    Really!!

There must have been some mighty big freezers at some ports, because the one on the oak that generally would need emptying twice a week was pretty much empty most of the season. Not to mention that the NWS / DEC field samplers consistently reported low numbers at other ports. Catch rates are numbers provided by us......how can this be the conclusion when the consensus is the opposite??

  3. Have had some success with 30# power pro and 10-12# trilene floro.  The PP holds up well to planer use and you can always go lighter on the floro.  PP seems to last for me -- into season 8 this year.

There is no wrong answer here....the considerations are water clarity, lure size and fish size.  I error on the side of too heavy because I hate loosing $10 rapalas!!!!!

  4. Short rods in the 7' range make setting boards much easier. Not sure of what you are looking for in a rod that "fights" a BT from a boat moving 3mph with an inline planer attached. I really like my clients to haul the fish in quickly, the small fish come right in and can be released quickly, the larger ones fight ok.

Currently using 7' Shimano TDR medium I found them for $17 each.

If I am fishing for fun, it's spinning rods

  5. I'm a big fan of simple fishing. Figure out the bite and fill the box. If I was going to try dipsy sliders I would do it on my power pro dipsys using an add-a-line.

It should be noted that you would only get away with such a rig pre- fleas...early summer & spring kings coming off an out down have crossed many a dipsy....another line to snag is not needed.

IMO it is better to get fewer hits with a high landing percentage than more hits and loose fish due to a tangle.

Finally, nothing worse than dragging a rig for an hour only to find out it is a tangled mess because something went wrong in the set-up.

  7. I wouldn't over think it guys. A swivel with a rounded snap seems to work just fine. Been field testing for years and when manipulating the variables and collecting the data....not much statistical variation. Only conclusion I have come to is that Salmon are suckers for chunks of metal that flop back and forth.

My analysis of this thread is that fishermen are more finicky than the fish........not that there is anything wrong with that!!
