Will all these fine details be in the book Sk8? Or do I need to print an appendix for my daughter? She's almost 2, but I'm 40 and have never Seth Greened it. I yank copper though. She'll know about that.

Great box Mike. You sure have them dialed in!
Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
Nice, that's a good box for this lake, noticed some old school copper rigs in some of those pics.....hand pulling copper is a workout......but fun to feel that hit for sure. Used to fish with a friend on cayuga pulling copper with twin minnows, some fun times over there.
I think he sleeps with those boxes......[emoji3]

I was told when they aged our laker scales are not very accurate. Otoliths are the most accurate way. I took the head from our laker after the taxidermist took it off and got it to the DEC. The taxidermist has to be careful not to damage the otoliths when the head is removed.

Yea, I don’t think he’s gonna chance taking the head off, scales would be the next best thing right?
Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
Hopefully they took some scales to help determine age. Look like tree rings under the microscope. Will tell a lot of history in that fishes life time.

Thanks les
Agreed as well! And for what it’s worth, like mentioned, the volunteer piece must not go unnoticed. The part that really bothers me is the fact an opportunity to see what’s coming from the lake, whether bad or good, is missed by DEC? Show support, get in the game, let people know what your doing about it. You had an audience. To me it’s the most important time to educate and support.

In years past DEC staff were present only to gather data. They (in my experience) took great pains to avoid any action that could be interpreted as a "judging" function. So, they were reluctant to settle fish ID disputes. I know of one instance where a fish was misidentified and the DEC person said only " you need to take a second look at that fish".
I hear what your saying in regards to disputes like “where was that fish caught” or “was it illegally caught “ etc. your right, they will not get involved in any disputes. What they always did however was ID every fish that hit the length board prior to weighing them. Never ever have I heard DEC say “I’m not sure what that fish is, oh well leave it to the fisherman to make the call”.........

Probably A Clash between marinas stivers and Seneca lake resorts. I think the derby needs Samson on board to continue in the future. Must have sucked for the people that rented cabins from them and then had to drive up to Geneva to weigh in a fish . It's to bad what a nice weigh station it would of made .

I would agree Brian, I would of been chapped only to find out there was no weighing if staying or ran the boat to the marina. Heck it seemed nobody knew it right until sat am. Why is that? Still waiting to hear the reason for that and the lack of Dec representation.

I saw that. Thats wild. All I know is it sounds like those guys had a hell of a weekend and were on a good pod of fish. I assumed bait fishing with how many fish they had on the board. Almost a surprise to that they were trolling! They were definitely doing something right!
That family has an incredible derby history. Probably the most wins in the history of it. Pretty much always on the board. They have techniques for silvers that are truly amazing and ever changing to the lakes fishery. Great fish. Congrats to them.

Can’t say we have any worthy pics but Brody made some personal bests over the weekend. Clowning around during lunch the bass-master in him took over. Safely released. I’m hoping we see him in the 2034 Classic!

I want you to know these folks are trying to do the right thing.... I just received a call from the derby folks indicating that there was an error and that I am moved to second place in the Seniors division and the guy is actually delivering to my home in one hour the extra $50 and exchanging plaques with me to correct the mistake. I think this speaks volumes for their sincerity and willingness to do the right thing after they caught the mistake.
It’s because of those doughnuts Les!

Regarding not being able to weigh in at Sampson or the fish?

Boys loved it, never seen the youngest so into it. I think he’s running the boat next year. Good luck this weekend, I’ve got the oldest college grad so we have to bow out. I’ll be rooting for ya.

Good seeing out there Les with that Whaler. I’m a little surprised there were no doughnuts or coffee...

hey guys, quick question
where's the best place to weigh in fish, samsen or drive to geneva?
this is our first year in, and i've never fished seneca before so i just don't know where the most room is, i'll have my boat with me
Really depends on where your fishing and how long of a drive it is for you. You’ll more than likely have to pay to enter the Sampson park if your not launching out of there. Other weigh locations is Watkins and Geneva. Both are good and have room to park. If your close to the North end you could go by boat via canal to Stivers Marine. Sometimes it’s tight in there depending how many boats are in weighing. Other times it’s empty. Plenty of options.

Hey Les, are you fishing Seneca this weekend? And Canandaigua next?
If so, good luck and might see ya out there.
He’s going to be serving coffee and doughnuts out on the water from 6-10am. So if you see his boat just pull up he’ll have them ready! [emoji12]

I’ve seen guys on here that can weld up a trailer and cost them a few bucks to do it. And they do top notch work. All depends on what side of the fence your standing. If cost isn’t an issue, me, I’d be getting another trailer. Had the same one, 93 seanymph. Took no chances being how many miles I trailered it. I get it if it’s taking it down the back rd to get it in a hoist for the summer, but on 490? Yea no. Got a shorelander up at Krenzers. Tim is great to deal with. Or you may find a used one that could fit the bill.
