  1. heading out saturday for first trip ever on ontario, i have a 19' boat. was thinking about putting in at port ontario, on the salmon river. was wondering if that will put me close to the fish? or is there a better launch in mexico bay for me? chris
  2. i have one of these, set up with lead core. i don't think they would work well with copper, line is too abrasive it will cut into the top and eventually snap the copper. and their is no way to put a twilli tip on it.
  3. haven't fished ontario yet going sep. 2 for the first time, but from everything i have been reading. your drag was most likely too tight.
  4. i have the scotty pro packs (1117) plenty of power and speed. swivel bases, 60" telescoping boom, and you can adjust your rod holders in any direction. only used 1 other brand of downrigger (big jon), which i did like but the boom was not as strong and they are slow. chris
  5. shine, i only know of one way to learn, and that is to try it. only ever ran 50lb fluro with dipsy's, these will be my first wire rods. as far as the tangles, i know sometimes they cannot be avoided, even the best guys get tangles now and again. but thanks for your attempt at discouraging advise, its dually noted. chris
  6. Was wondering if everyone runs dipsy's on their ss rods or do alot of people run it straight? heading up the first few days in september to try the big "O" and i am trying to lay out a plan before i get there. this will be the first time ever fishing ontario. just going to run a 4 rod setup, 2 on downriggers and to 2 ss (wire) rods. from what i read they are running copper 250-300 with dipsy's, but with that much line out is the dipsy really giving you more depth or is it just for getting it off to the side of the boat? as much and any info greatly appreciated. chris
  7. what do you recommend i bring for lures, spoons, flies, etc. and best colors for that time of year? chris
  8. was wondering what everyones opinion for the best fishing would be, for salmon, bows. etc. out of the following 4 areas. chaumont bay, henderson bay, mexico bay or black river bay. this will be my first trip ever to the lake so want a starting place. i see alot of people talking about the oak but would be a lot longer of a trip to get there. chris
  9. just bought 2 daiwa accudepth 47lc reels for my daiwa wilderness 9' dipsy rods. I am going to run wire on the reels, looking for suggestions on wire and if i have to run backing on the reel with the 1000' of wire? thanks in advance for all replies. chris
