  8. Traveled on the 220 fow line fished from 50 yo 80 down lots of green and had 11 hit with 5 in the box. Had a huge male King on and he skyrocketed up leaping.. Very nice.. But when me buddy "helped" me net him he grabbed the rod and the line as it flipped out from being too big for the net. Then I had to watch it swim away with my fly and spin doctor in tow...[emoji15] Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  10. yeah I hear ya! It wasn't one of my fly's....store bought one from dick's... needed the color never looked at the hook.... switched it out for a better hook setup and managed a 17 lb male that fought like crazy!

First up was allen and nabbed a 18 lb femall that gave him quite a fight... His first salmon ever! He was beside himself! then we too a 14lb male and then a few small ones that barely popped the releases, when it happened. The right wire out 250 with a 4 1/8 dipsey with a greensilver dodger went off like a rocket! After a battle the fish doubled back and go the the line aroune the dipsey and broke off... it was the biggest so far but then that right rod kept going off!! two more line screamers got away!! one bit through the fly leader and the other straightened out the treble hook! UGH but I felt good that at least we were going it right to have such luck! Thank you for all who gave such greeat advive on "how too" and helped make it such a great day! Ill download the photos tonight.. allen's face is priceless.. hot lure was a green outer gold inner fly with a touch of black mixed in witht he green... hot colors were the green and silver spin dr and dodger Again THANK YOU to all who threw their two cents/info in to help get my dream of trolling for salmon out on the big O going and becomming successfull!! Without you guys it would never have been. It really was so fun to get out their and get some! NOW I have got to try and get one of thorse big slobs to the boat! Mark
  12. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Mark ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 8/27 Time on Water:5-4pm Weather/Temp: watr temp 90 deg flat calm with winds Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: 1-3 up to 2-5 Surface Temp: 74 degrees Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 5 Total Boated:4 Species Breakdown: 3 kings 1 laker and 1 brown Hot Lure: green fly and flasher and gator spoon Trolling Speed: 2-2.8 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 100-360 Lure Depth: 40-120 Hey guys! I finally made it out there and scored a few salmon but the biggest was only 17 lbs. I got some info that maybe I was running things wrong. So I switched to 6-8 feet of line from the dipsy to the flasher/spindr and then 22-24inches from the flasher/dr to the fly. I was running then 2-3 feet from the dipsy to the flasher. I also was using the #3 dipsy on setting of 2-2.5 and anywhere from 150-240 feet back. I have the magnums too but am wondering if thats the size everybody is using... is a smaller diver better? I am also running 30lb wire on these rods. i did pull a diver up and had friggin zebra muscles on it! Also is the color of diver matter? havent heard about anyone talking about that. wondering if it was too much flash for such a sunny day. Any thoughts would be helpfull... and is the distance from the flasher to a spoon matter? Im new so don't know, but am taking my buddy's dad out soon and he's kinda like a dad to me and want to get it right and have him have more than just a boat ride. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! And is it still 10 feet off the ball for flashers or spin dr? I was trying everything but at somepoint when everybody is catching 27 #'s and your not, ya just gotta ask!
  13. Dude! So Im checkin out the daily reports, drooling over the pics of fish and wishing my trailer was ready, and I see your pics.... Not only am I jealous of your fish, but friggin Melissa got to go out and fish too!! LOL I work with her and it looks like you two had a nice day despite the am troubles... well Im sure I get to meet you sometime and glad you had some good action with the kings! Im just getting started trolling and there is so much to learn. Im sure Ill figure it out right when they are already up in the creeks! Have a great day and good fishing! Mark
  14. Hey thanks everybody! I appreciate all the comments! Ive just never fished with wire before so trying to work it out... Prob keepin the GF. Shes an adrenaline junkie and never really fished before..(too ho hum) But I think if I can get her hooked up with a 30lb salmon with the line screaming out of the reel she be hooked!! I was thinking that a long line off a spinny with a spoon might give it a nice circular pattern. Good to hear Im not the only crazy one! I never thought about the middle riggger causing congestion and problems with fighting fish although that totally makes sense! I guess it just the alure of having that lone rigger way down deep lurking in the depths, just waiting for the monster salmon to shamh it is too hard to resist.... although it prob just produce a laker by what Im hearing!! That's ok though... Im sure they are just as tasty..
  15. Ok. I decided that this long time childhood dream of going out trolling for salmon was finally going to happen. I went a bit crazy with fishing fever, as any salmon fisherman will know something about, and now have a living room floor full of 2 rods with strange tips, 2 reels with some crazy wire line, 2 more rods with more flex than a gymnist, 2 more reels waiting patiently for mono/fluro, a strange tackle box, wonderfull contraptions called spindoctors and and dipsy divers, a swarm of fly's and hordes of spoons! And as I hop on one foot from kicking a down rigger ball with my little toe, I stare at all these shinny items that make me want to bite into them, and I am faced with the inevitable, "What the heck do I do with it all???" 1. Spin Dr's go with flys, not spoons, I get that or can they? will the spoon work with the roll pattern? 2. Can you use spin dr with dipsey divers? or will the diver be screwed up by the rotation of the spin dr or vice versa? (Iwas planning to run the wire lines out to the side with the dipsey divers with spn dr and flys or flashers with spoons and mono/fluro off the down riggers with dr/flys or dodgers and spoons or naked spoons) 3. Is the juice worth the squeeze??? I have two down riggers, cannons, no temp sensors except the HDS fishfinder for thermocline, Is a third down rigger run deep down the middle worth the cost of going and buying another? And by that I mean are lots of fish picked up on that one? A temp sensor on the downrigger? I have to admit Im kinda of an equipment whore and wouldnt mind it but it'll prob mean selling a kidney... lol any thoughts opinions would be appreciated.... 4. Has anyone ever tried live bait or chunking? I think they call it mouching out on the west coast.... The reeason I ask Is my girfirend has been bugging me for a weekend out on the boat but she doesnt want to fish ALLL the time?!?!? I know!! She wants a day of laying out in the sun as well. Soooooo I was thinking of sneaking a line off the side with live bait or cut bait. Now this may very well have me out on the couch with the Dog but I figured what the heck, The dog likes to cuddle... As always I appreciate any and all help and comments, and thank you in advance!
  16. My boat is getting repaired and such so I wont be out this weekend but again, Thanks for the advice! . Im not a charterboat captian but I've been on chartered skunked trips before so If King slammin is your handle, I let you know if I find em! Thanks for everybodys advice! you too long line and trench!
  17. Hey trench and longline, thank you very much!! Ive never heard of a cowbell rig before but just read a bunch on the net! Great advice. Im going out of wilson or olcott so will definately try that! I live in Grand Island so not to close to the local stores but will look around for a tackle place out that way. And will do with the NK's .....I assume run clean means no flasher or dodger! Thankgs again..
  18. Lookin to get out for the first time trolling. Life has been stealing away fishing time from me... Having only trolled once in LO years ago and just rigged up my new boat to try. Just looking for a few tips and colors for bright /dark days. Is it the same as bass? Bright on bright days dark on overcast? I went shopping and have NK spoons galore but no fly's... I have squids and skirts for ocean fishing so Ill try them too I guess... 30 feet behing the ball ok? And falshers with fly only or with spoons too.... Any help would be appreciated.... looking for at least one fish to make the day a success.. although just getting out there will be amazing... Love'in the wide open blue serenity Mark
  19. Hello! Looking at recent studies of the ground warming effects of windmills, this could effect ice formation and thus impact wildlife in mexico bay... Included a news report link below.. Ive never been to mexico bay, but if you loose the ice, marine organisms that need quiet calm water to survive the winter may be seriously affected. Just a thought http://m.tgdaily.com/sustainability-fea ... emperature [ Post made via iPhone ]
  20. ok Im new... Just getting started. Oh and Im not a charter boat. Just recreational but trolled ALOT in the ocean, so this may be a dumb question... 30lb test keeps off fleas? and Im just getting started so please forgive me, but what is a flea and do they screw up your line?. or is it just that when you real it in it cloges up like the dogwood fluff..
