  1. I use a panther T4 with wireless remote steering. I have a 28 trophy. Yamaha 9.9ht. I am able to control my boat reasonably for the cost.. compare to an autopilot..

My unit, all panther t4 are not a fast working unit. Not meant for the nasty days. When it comes to mounting your motor, be ready, your panther can only steer so far, I recommend as center as possible without protruding onto your other electronic devices. I will take some photos of my setup when I get home and post.

After what we experienced last fall on your boat when the panther seized during operation and the boat did a tight half circle and tangled everything in the water, I could never think about getting one. Lol

  2. Doing the same thing now on a 245 Contender. Bought the Garelick 71091 (15.5" travel) and will be mounting it on the starboard side as close to the center as possible while still maintaining sufficient clearance between the outdrive and kicker. Got a new 15hp Mercury Prokicker 25" shaft w/remote controls on the way. I mounted a chute rigger so never planned on doing a centered kicker mount. Also didn't want to cantilever that much weight out back. I didn't like the idea of setting it back away from the boat taking up valued netting space either. Good luck with the Project! Exciting stuff!

  3. Seaguar just came out with a new yellow label called STS specifically for salmon and trout applications.

I like this new stuff and am excited to get it wet this year. I put the 15lb trout and steelhead as leaders on all my spring brown and walleye rods. 30lb salmon for dipsey leaders, rigger rods, and coppers. Also tied 50+ flies and 25+ cutbait rigs this winter using this stuff. I really like it. Cinches really well and appears to have great knot strength. We'll see how it performs this year. Doesn't break the bank either.

I placed a label on the rod end and above the reel with the # of colors spooled on the reel. Covered the label with clear packaging tape. Have a 3,4,5,6,8,10, 12 color set-up.

  5. Fellow LOU Members,

Can you please help me identify this canvas drop curtain fastener? (Name, P/N, where can I find them, etc.)

They are used for securing the bottom of the drop curtains to the deck floor. This is on a '90 Penn Yan 245 Contender. I'm in need of some more of these fasteners and the mating plastic grommets that slide into them.

    Thanks!!!

  6. Agree with skippers. Mercs are well known, popular, and there a lot of owners in NA. With that much product in the field you are going to find the positive and the negative reviews. Tohatsu just isn't as common in NA.

  7. Wallyandre - you realize the pixels are directly relative to the display size right? (H x W) There is no difference between the HDS 5 and Elite 7 resolution. The only difference is the backlighting scheme.

  8. Also notice you get a 2 year warranty on HDS and just 1 year on Elite. Not a big deal but something you should pay attention to when your main engine or kicker isn't running... HDS draws 200mA less (.7A vs .9A). It must be the backlighting technique on the HDS because despite the resolutions listed for both units in the specs, the HDS display is much crisper in my opinion.

  9. I'd say the processing power of the Elite series and HDS series units is the biggest differentiator for your average fisherman. The HDS units are super fast to react to major pan and zoom intervals while the Elite units will be lagging and thinking leaving you to constantly wait for the screen to refresh. I've had both. I'm impatient so HDS it is.
