There's a bunch of study's that prove it. It doesn't matter where they spawn....lake or creek it doesn't matter. When a walleye egg hatches it's so small it's a plankton meaning it's at the mercy of the water current. During this time they get eaten by the millions of alewife in the lake. They are such efficient planktivors they effectively eliminate all walleye plankton. Bass, pike, sunfish.....when those species hatch they stay in the shallows and do not drift out to the alewives habitat like the walleyes do making them unavailable for alewife predation. It will not take you long to search thru American fisheries society and find study's that have been published and peer reviewed proving alewife effectively eliminate walleye reproduction. I'm not saying there isn't a bunch of eyes in Conesus but what I am saying is numbers are down. Also what I'm saying is we get half the amount of fish as we used to. Also another thing. During the shocking very few small fish showed up. That's not a good sign. You need year classes coming up to take the place of all the fish being taken out. That's common sense. As for introducing another fish.....that's walking a thin line. Do we really want to take that risk? Conesus is a great pike and bass fishery. I'm not sure I'm willing to potently sacrifice those fisheries by introducing another species even if they can't reproduce. Alewifes in Conesus are here to stay barring some huge environmental change.

There is no walleye reproduction in Conesus lake. I don't know honeoyes stocking schedule but I can see Albany being more willing to give that lake fish because there are more year round walleye fisherman on that lake. It gets used more so they get more fish also there are no alewife in that lake so there is some natural reproduction in honeoye. Albany would rather stock a fishery that can hopefully at some point become a self sustaining fishery. Something that will never happen in Conesus.

Bsmaster.......walleyes life cycle wouldn't allow that. When the egg hatches it's becomes a icthyoplankton (super small baby fish that's at the mercy of water currents). There's no way you could separate them from the alewife. The only way to keep walleye generations going in an alewife filled lake is stocking unfortunately. Justin I think a finger lakes walleye association is a great idea. Look at the pull the Muskie guys have.

Justin your absolutely right. I spoke with a biologist in region 8 recently about the walleye in Conesus. I said numbers are down, now what's the course of action to get more walleye stocked? He said there really isn't one. The hatchery can only produce so many walleye every year and they are spoken for. He said the only way Albany would approve more walleye stocking is if he can prove there's a bunch of people angling for walleye and the last creel survey they did showed very minimal about of walleye fishing in the lake. Also he said that knowing Conesus is over run with alewife doesn't help because it's well known it will never be a self sustaining population and that's the goal of every stocking program.

They only shock the lake every 5 years I believe. I've heard those rumors to. Don't quote me but I don't think they have weighted any fish over the state record. I would not be surprised if there's a few swimming around that are that big tho. Those fish are so old and so lazy the chances of hooking them are slim IMO. Lol the other day I heard "the dec shocked 2 state record pike in the inlet this year" lol they didn't net a single pike and didn't weigh a single fish in the inlet. Rumors spread like wildfire. It's like the telephone game. "The dec shocked some big walleye today" ten people later "the dec shocked state record pike and walleye today!!!!" Take everything with a grain of salt.

Nothing over 10 no. When we shocked the creek at the beginning of April there were some that were prolly over 10.

Only terrova allows this. The other models don't allow you to use both at the same time.

There figuring 7500 eyes which is down from the 15,000 in 2002 when they did the exact same survey. I went out shocking one night two weeks ago abs out of the 37 eyes we caught 3 of them were tagged. That was just one night tho. A lot more tagged fish showed up then I was hoping for. They only stock the lake every other year now. For about 8 years up until 2002 it was stocked every year. It doesn't come as a surprise the population is down.

I got a good deal on a barely used power drive with the I pilot already on it. Most cases I see myself using the I pilot but I can see a few times where I would want the peddle. It doesn't look like to much of a pain to switch to the foot peddle. If I had 1600 to spend I would have just went with the terrova but I couldn't unfortunately.

Im pumped! I bought a 80# V2 with i pilot. With my 16ft aluminum boat I should be able to water ski behind it lol

Anyone on how easy it is to disconnect the I pilot and use the foot peddle on the v2 series?

I'm looking to buy a used one. It's the model just under the terrova. I will be getting the I pilot and the foot peddle. I know I won't be able to use them at the same time. My question is how hard is it to switch from I pilot to foot peddle?

How are you guys securing the crimp in there releases? Also the crimp shown in the first page doesn't go all the way through. Is that a problem. Also I'm curious how I should use them. I'll be fishing for eyes this weekend. Should I be using rubber bands? The line I'm using is 15lb braid. If you don't use a rubber band do you twist your line then put it in the release? I have a 16ft aluminum boat. I'm almost done building a mast that will fit into my front seat pedestal. I'm wondering how I should go about setting my rod holders up. I've never used big boards so this is all new to me. If anyone has pictures of how they set there rods up it would he great. Should the rods go in the front or in the back of the boat.
