  1. Cottage for rent a few miles outside Sackets Harbor, NY.

This is our home away from home and we've decided to open it to the fishing community on LOU at an off season rate. It's a great location on the eastern end.

There are 2 bedrooms, one with a queen and the other with 2 twin beds. There is also a futon in the living room. WiFi.  Great for family and kids, sand beach with gentle gradient.

5 minutes to Sackets Harbor launch, 15 min to Henderson launch, 20 to Stony Creek launch, 25 to Chaumont launch. Several options for combating the wind and waves.

    Off season rate $80 per night or $550 per week. May 7 - 23, May 28 - June 16, Sept 3 - Sept 30.

$80/night for spring/fall, any days you like.

  2. New to this kind  of terminology.  Why do you run copper?  Is it for depth?  How deep can you run dipseys, and do you run them on braid or wire?

Copper sinks roughly 20' for every 100' out @ 2.5 mph. When someone gives a copper number there're referring to feet out.
And I use wire for my dipsys. The chart that comes with a magnum dipsy says it'll achieve 100' using 20# mono at 2.5 mph. But with wire or braid it should go deeper.

  3. I know this has been a topic on here before, but can't find it. So you can post it here if you do, or we'll just go around again with the topic! [emoji23]

I breakdown my wire dipsy rods after almost every trip.

What do you all think of using a length of mono at the end of your wire to alleviate getting loops or kinks in the wire? What # test is used? How often do you or should you change it?

    Thanks, Luke

  4. I have a cottage on chaumont i would recommend trailering to the state launch or go out of long point state park it's a long run from Henderson and if you get caught in some nasty weather it would be a nasty miserable ride back across. I fish Stoney and Galloo the summer months with my 23' fiberglass and it can get rough with just a slight breeze.

Thanks Chas0218. My place is outside Sackets. Looking for different semi-protected water when the wind isn't letting me get out deep on the days I am allowed out! [emoji23].

If your ever looking for someone to fish with or don't mind showing me around chaumont, let me know. I'm a teacher and make it up there for about half the summer weeks and some weekends spring/fall.

  5. Henderson fishing Every spring I head to Pulaski. Last year I kept my boat in Sandy Pond for the week and it was a mightmare getting in and out with the sand bar and in the fall the salmon river launch was just as bad. Is there better launchs and lodgeing in Henderson which is just up the road ? Thanks

    Sent you a PM.

  6. Thanks final flight. I do know Henderson... Maybe I should've stated I have a cottage outside Sackets and am looking for ways to get out by trailer when the wind isn't cooperating for a troll out deep, in H bay, or BRB. We all know the Lady can get nasty, especially those days you have it all planned out! [emoji23]

  7. This is all written by human study on a fish a creature with the brain the size of a pea. And is all as we the humans see how there eyes should see color. Nobody has ever got a fish to answer the question how they see color.

  8. I'm with Jerryriggin2 on this one as far as the conclusion being based on what WE are able to see. How did they get the data from the fish? How would they be able to measure what fish see down deep? How did they separate out vibrations, or other movement being  accountable for a response? Generalizing vision from one species to another is riddled with problems.

I believe the chart and depths of visible light are based on physics, the way light will pass through the medium of H2O. The question of how well fish see and for whatever reason is totally different.

  9. Fish strike for reasons beside  sight. They can hone in on vibration, and scent, providing it's water soluble 80% of my fishing is for muskies and I know I could get a reaction strike from a fish with a socket wrench given the right time and location.

Location and timing are the two most important factors. if the fish aren't there doesn't much mater what you use

Hahaha! Love the point. And can I get me a socket lure?! Should it be on tighten or loosen?! I guess that has to do with timing! Lol.

    Sorry... couldn't help myself! [emoji23]

  10. I just want to clear up the penetration of visible light in water... Pap, your numbers are way off. Maybe if you were talking in meters, but they'd still be off.

The longer wavelengths, red, orange, and yellow are absorbed quickly near the surface, in the first 10-15 meters. The shorter wavelengths, green, blue, and violet travel farther with blue going the furthest about 150 meters.

If light stopped penetrating at 40 ft, why the hell would we use any colors at all below 40ft when we all fish well below that and talk of our hot colors and such???

The numbers here will ultimately vary depending on water clarity, more stuff = less penetration.

I like the topic and am interested what everyone thinks. I'm still newish to deep trolling and threads like this really interest me.
