  2. I own 140 acres in the Northern Zone and I do hunt low impact, I have a sanctuary, cover, and food. Once the rut starts they start getting picked off. Throw in a higher winter kill, 7 weeks of gun season, low number of doe permits, and a kill every spike attitude and it can be quite a challenge.

I don’t shoot young bucks on my land and I see results even with those challenges. However when I hunt the finger lakes I see more bucks in 1 day than I see all season on my land...

I actually like the challenge. If it was easy I wouldn’t hunt.

You are right, Realeyz. Northern zone hunting is quite different from southern tier. I dont recall the exact numbers but 2/3-3/4of the states deer take come from the southern zone and the northern zone gun season is 7 weeks with some areas providing early and late muzzle, lol. Its crazy. Still 6G has a robust deer population but it seems to be localized.
I think the more progressive and younger hunters will promote the QDM philosophy. It takes time and education. As the old guard of hunters pass the torch hopefully they dont pass all the bad habits.

  3. Im getting a one man eskimo evo this year. Going lighter for greater mobility. One man shack but still has 20sq ft of fishing area. Might get another battery for my drill. Other than that.... just getting the sled and wheeler tuned up. Bring on the cold stuff!

  4. Congrats to all who had a successful southern zone gun opener!

I tucked myself in Friday night ready to hunt 7R in the morning. I woke up a couple hours later headed to the ER. Long story short... my opener was spent working out kidney stones [emoji37][emoji15]. The stones couldn't wait till Monday!!??Lol. Beautiful bucks, guys. Hoping for a better go this weekend.
