  1. Lews spood spool, or lews carbon fire are great reels. I learned to use a baitcaster with both of these reels, and wouldn't consider any others, anytime soon.
  2. Any reports from the Clayton area? Headed there this weekend.
  3. Thus far, I have only been to a handful of meetings, and their annual sportsman raffle fund raiser, so I cannot speak too much from experience, but, I do know they hold social events throughout the year, with one being a clam bake. Joining also entails membership into the national B.A.S.S. club, which provides you with the monthly magazine, as well as the ability to marshal in events on the pro trails, and I would imagine much more. From what I have gathered so far, it is a tremendous learning experience and a great way to meet other guys who share the passion, whom of which you can get out on the water for some non-tournament fishing with.Like I said, I don't have a great amount of exposure to what the club has to offer at this point, but I hope this helps. They are always looking for new guys, so I would be happy to, or I am sure your friend can get you in touch with somebody who might be able to provide a little more insight.
  4. Can anybody recommend, or speak about any fly fishing guide services in the Vail, CO area. I am heading out west towards the end of the month and am looking to book a trip. Unfortunately I will be traveling out with with a torn ACL ligament in my knee, so I think a float trip is really my only option. I have read a lot of good things about both Vail Valley Anglers, and Minturn Angler services. So just wondering if anybody has any experience with either these two, or any other guiding services in the Vail area. Thanks!
  5. Last night I attended my first Rochester Bassmasters meeting. The club and its members made a great first impression on me. It was really great listening to a couple of guys recap their 2015 season on the water, and to hear a preview of the upcoming 2016 season. Im really looking forward to getting involved in the club and getting out on the water this summer with some experienced anglers.
  6. The precision of the fish returning may be variable, for whatever reason. But it's indisputable that the fish have a natural instinct to return.
  7. I have started seeing numerous browns of all sizes all over east side tribs, they should without a doubt be in the river.
  8. thanks a lot...my first salmon from shore...quite an experience
  9. Put up a great fight, nothing gets the adrenaline going more than seeing the line scurry away right before the hookset. I have actually just recently got into fishing the wacky worm, personally I prefer fishing it weightless for the action it provides while descending.
  10. Any luck the remainder of the night?Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  11. Thanks again for your help, much appreciated. Ill be sure to be sufficeintly equipped from here on out.
  12. It absolutely pays to keep trying. I've made thousands and thousands of casts off that pier this year during the spring and fall, and have only managed 2 fish. But it's worth it, that's for sure. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  13. Ah, sorry about that, yes, 9/22/2015. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  14. Caught this nice female king on the Summerville pier around 8:30pm tonight. Caught on 2/5 oz. glowing cleo, green and white, on 14 lb. mono. Need to be honest, I was extremely unprepared for this catch, as I never really go out there expecting to catch anything, so HUGE thanks to the guys who helped me land this big girl, greatly appreciated. 15. thank you do much. I gave him a call today, I may be going out Sunday, gotta give him a call back later in the week.Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  16. Nice largemouth from a canoe in Braddocks bay, tossing a wacky worm against the cattails. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  17. Whaler, Braddocks is where I kayak out of every week, I have never heard of them doing rentals, but am very intrigued. Do you know what kind of boats they rent out? And prices? Or should I just give them a ring. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  18. Yes, bayside boat and tackle, I did come across them while searching the internet. And you make a very good point about limiting the use to the creek/bay that you rent from, so I will be sure to inquiry about that. I have also heard that about shallow water charters not being able to take clients on the lake. Any idea why that is? Maybe something to do with licensing, like guide vs captian or something. 19. Does anybody know of any places that do daily rentals of fishing boats in the rochester area? My only craft is a kayak, and sometimes that just doesn't cut it. I would like to get in something this weekend to do some smallmouth fishing on the lake. I have searched around the internet but haven't really found anything too comprehensive for Lake Ontario, mainly just finger lakes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. 20. Thanks, Fishing from a kayak is great, a ton of fun when you hook up and get to go for a little ride. Like I said, this is my first sheepshead, I thought I had a smallie with the fight it gave and the flash of brown I saw below, but was pleasantly surprised by my first sheepshead, also surprised that it took my fast retrieved crank bait. 21. Any reports of hemlock in the last couple of day? Looking to head out later this afternoon, weather permitting. Were looking to scrap the thermocline between 30-40 FOW with Cleo's and Michigan stingers. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  22. Got out last night in the kayak out of Braddocks bay. Made the trip across the to the west side of the bay, out into the lake a bit. I was fishing the tips of the long concrete docks for smallies and somehow managed to hook up with a decent sheep head on crank bait. Never caught one of these before.
