It’s a little late for browns but can still get them very early in the AM from what I hear but walleyes will be around but more of a quality fishery than quantity. I’ve caught them sporadically in the area at dawn and dusk on deep cranks and worm harnesses. You’ll want to post this in the South shore thread though since this one is mostly for Ontario, Canada fishermen.

Well I finally dropped my boat off to Precision Marine in Marietta last week and they are going to custom build a motor mount out of 1/2” aluminum to fit my transom. Will be a little pricey but can’t wait to get it back and get back on the water soon. Will post pics for any others in the future with similar dilemmas of unique transoms with limited room for a kicker mount. Thanks again everyone for taking the time to share your input.

Awesome, it was a great day to get out. First weekend I was able to get out also because of the wind situation. Labatt’s is a better choice than Bud Light

Here we can fish for trout year round in the lakes while they are out of season in the streams but not walleye.

That’s awesome. I landed a 31” ‘eye off the fair haven pier one day casting for browns with a 10 1/2’ noodle rod with 6 lb line and it just happened to be opening day of walleye season. Thank God because it is on my wall and still the biggest one I’ve landed. You never know what springtime fishing will bring in close to shore.

I would have a report by now but between the weekend winds and waiting to put a kicker motor on I haven’t been able to get out.

I e heard of that rig before and it sounds promising. Thanks for the feedback!

I miss small lake kayak fishing. If it weren’t so hard on my back lugging it around I would still be doing it.

Just to taunt me.

Thanks guys, this is all really helpful and I am taking note of every bit of info. My last question is what range of speed should I be looking for or is this more water temp related or changing with fish attitude by the day?

I have always heard of guys trolling steamers for trout in the spring and have always wanted to try but curious about a few things. For those of you that have done this, I assume these are fished weightless, maybe behind a small planer board, but how do you avoid them twisting the line up? Also would love if someone could PM me and give me some guidance of some patterns. I own a few tandem streamers in grey ghost, black ghost and Mickey Finn but not sure if they are anything like what are typically used.

What is the measurement from tip to plate on the shortest end? I am actually looking for a set of 30 degree mounts

Haha Whaler, looks like you’re in my backyard!

Yes but try getting off the lake during a storm when your big motor quits or won't start
True story. There are times I suppose that steering ability may be necessary with the kicker.

I will have to try that this season with a thinner rubber lining. I tried using a thicker rubber and electrical tape and neither held firmly.

Wow, I haven’t seen that or maybe it didn’t click when I saw it. Looks like it would work if I opted not to use the tiller for steering since the handle is on the port side of the motor where it would hit the storage compartment. I am going to try an adjustable kicker bracket but if that doesn’t work out that just maybe my plan B. Thank you!

How long of an extension is that?
-
Hopefully I’m not overthinking it and it will be more basic of an install

Nice, I guess I’m not too worried about turning with it while trolling since I will usually be using my minn kota auto pilot at thebow with a remote to keep me on course and make turns. Just want to be able to reach the handle to change speed or make quick changes in direction if need be. I’m hoping if I use a kicker bracket I can keep the motor high enough to reach the pull chord and still have the ventilation plate below the hull. When I get home I’ll make some measurements.

Thanks Sherman, I will take you up on that if I decide to go that route!
-
Wow, what a trip! I’ve had days like that. At least you got some fish and more importantly made it back to the launch safely. Could have been worse.
-
Interesting idea. That just might work if it can be shortened up a little so I could reach the tiller handle or put an extension on it. I’d also have to make sure the lower unit is still low enough below the hull.

There is enough room to mount it next to the main motor but the steering rod looks like it will totally be in the way. I will have a friend of mine help me to see if we can get it to sit right otherwise I may end up dropping it on the ground if it doesn’t sit right on. I would be ready to fish this weekend but I’m not too hopeful it will be that easy.

Picked my boat up today from the fabricator and am really happy with it. Feels really sturdy and also allows me to use the tiller handle which I didn’t think would be possible. Precision Marine in Marietta did the work and it didn’t cost nearly as much as I thought it would.
