  1. I actually really like the Lews Carbon Fire speed spool, I think it's a great reel for the $80 or so price tag. Although I have two, and one runs a lot smoother than the other. But they have a good casting distance regardless. I actually like them better than the Lews tournament series reel I have, although that one is technically way higher quality but it sucks to cast with. The centrifugal brake system ensures pretty much zero backlash, but the casting distance is awful

  2. Water level is crazy low this year, but we've seen it lower at our cottage. Luckily at the end of our dock we have about 10ft of water. Seems to me the low water levels all summer and the crazy temps also spiked the weed growth compared to last year.

I remember last October I was doing well Texas rigging flappin hog craws on a bass patrol swing jig and bouncing it along the bottom. Too many weeds to do that this year in the same spots. Spinnerbaits are a favorite too. No better way to cover water in my opinion.

  3. I fished Fair Haven last Saturday - decent conditions and the water dropped to around 65, from 75 the week before. I too got skunked, and that's been quite a pattern down there lately for me. Still hoping once the water gets into the 50s the fish will turn on. I keep my boat on a hoist down there and the water level is making me a bit nervous. If it goes down much more then I'll have to pull the boat earlier than I wanted to.

  4. Fish the canal banks, jig the rock lines. This will produce more bass than perch but it can still be fun, just don't be the Dad who hooks a worm a foot under a bobber and lobs it out into the middle and stares at it for an hour and wonders why the kids think you're boring.

  5. Good pick up.....But I would note that Fish was not completely vertical or being held only by the lip. Not a perfect hold but more supportive than whats photographed above for sure.

Agreed.. a lot of bass fisherman are more concerned with how a photo looks than how to properly handle a fish though. This is pretty evident from all the "jaw jacking" photos you'll see. Holding a fish like that feels completely unnatural anyway, the only purpose is to show it off for a photo.
