Great sketch Amerinah! I couldn't agree with you more about all the help folks on this site provide. All you folks, you ARE the best, amazingly willing to share your knowledge, experience and expertise! Sincerely, thank you. Now to the sketch. I am not an engineer, but I work with them every day. Interesting people, you engineers. Most every thing you sketch or draw looks awesome on paper. The real test is how it works in the field, under actual conditions that can't always be replicated in the office or on paper. Any argument with that, just think about the last time you tried to work under the hood of your car. For many, many years I was one of the guys who tried to build or implement what the engineers had designed. Sometimes it worked, many times......well! I agree with a lot of the comments here, start out simple and work your way up, otherwise you will be trying to straighten out some messes even a NASA scientist couldn't figure out. I really like the sketch though. Honest. And I love your enthusiasm even more. After your field testing please keep us posted as to what worked and what didn't. I used to tell engineers all the time- "You can draw an ****, but I have to make it s**t".

Hey Guys, FYI, Just saw a post on South Jersey Craigslist for a '95 22' Starcraft Islander W/A for sale on South Jersey Craigslist for $5200 and thought somebody on LOU might be interested. I see a lot of requests for WTB Starcraft Islanders from the PA and NY guys and thought this might help somebody. Don't know anything about the boat, don't know the guy who owns it, have no stake in this at all, just figured I'd post the info for anybody who might be interested. Hope this helps somebody and good luck! Would have posted the Craigslist ad but I'm not computer savvy and couldn't figure out how to do it.

No need to worry about wiring the downriggers, 40 years in the construction trades and boating, so I've seen a whole lot of what NOT to do when it comes to workmanship, and cutting corners isn't in my nature, especially when it comes to my fishing, since that time is so precious to me. I also fish saltwater here in NJ and, trust me, you can't believe how fast crappy work, especially anything electrical, is destroyed just by adding a little salt. I always joked that when I was fishing in Lake Ontario I was fishing in water cleaner than what I washed by boat off with at home. Can't wait to wash my boat in L.O.!

Hey Guys, Thanks for all the input on both, actually all, sides of my question. The info is great and helped me make the decision to go with the Scottys, although I feel like i would have been happy with either choice. I bought a pair of Scotty 2116's from Fish307 during their "Better Than Prime Day Sale", so now I have my work cut out for me mounting them and wiring them on my Aquasport Explorer 225, which I'm actually looking forward to, then the long drag from southern NJ to Lake O . Can't wait, it's been a long time and I wasn't sure I'd ever be able to do it again physically, but here we go. Thanks again, guys!

We both forgot to mention sitting around the campfire at night, sky full of stars,yukkin' it up about any number of subjects, no traffic, no crowds- what else have I missed? And there's some great river fishing not too far away- the Saranac, the Ausable, the Raquette (for bass), travel a little farther there's the St. Regis, the Salmon (Franklin county), the Boquet- plus, about a hundred other lakes and ponds. But I digress.

Hey HB2, I'm jealous. A trip to the Adirondacks is like going home to me. I couldn't agree with you more that there's nothing better than seeing the sun come up over those mountains and a summer mist on the water. And camping on the islands, man, that's the best. I'm kind of glad that some people don't like roughing it, otherwise it would get even more crowded. Twenty-five years ago, when my kids were in their early teens, we used to camp on the islands for a week every summer, then stretched it to ten days because everybody thought a week was too short. Now my kids are grown, with families of their own, but they still talk about those trips and how much fun they had. It's a state of mind you can't appreciate until you've tried it. It all really fits in with the quote from Henry David Thoreau- "Man fishes a lifetime before he realizes it's not the fish he's after".

After ten years away from Lake Ontario fishing due to medical issues caused by Lyme disease, I'm back with a new boat that I need to set up with downriggers. On my previous boat I ran Cannon Marlin HP electrics, circa early 1990's, which I had no problems with after getting the touchpad issues replaced under warranty. Now days I'm hearing that Cannon products aren't the same after the company was sold and the warranty isn't as solid as before. I was a diehard Cannon guy, but I've been told by two or three fishermen whose opinions and experience I trust that Scotty downriggers are the way to go. I would appreciate hearing the pros and cons of both from folks who are have been using them. I don't mind spending the big bucks for quality products as long as they're going to hold up and last for several years, at least.
