I registered today,I'm not experienced with this type of Derby the only other one was the LOU all in . That day I box out and back on the trailer by 1 pm .( 4 foot waves had a little to do with that also ). I went to the club and had to wait to weigh in after 3 . Is this derby the same or can you weigh in say 1 :00 . I get the 3 pm cut off .

Weigh in starts at 3 after everyone checks in. We do this because it allows everyone to see each box of fish

  2. At this time we aren't looking at other weigh in locations. This has a bit to do with the later weigh time to potentially make it convenient for people coming from farther launches. However the sportsman's club is a great location for the west side because it's close to deans and not too far from all west side launches. I understand the concern though and I am sorry it couldn't be easier for everyone but it's tough on a 40mile long lake

  3. tick tock! We have received donations from Brian Gambell of gambler rigs who has donated now for all 3 years of the tourney. These are beautiful sets of micro gambler rigs! Harvey O'Hara donated some awesome downrigger weights for the second year in a row! Scott Baldwin of Reelrage trolling spoons has donated a bunch of awesome spoons in various colors aswell! Don't miss your chance at these great prize packs! These packs will be split up and drawn for door prize raffles! This gives everyone a fair chance at going home with a smile on their face and some new gear for the boat! I urge everyone to take a look at these local businesses from these great guys that all push amazing product!

  4. The silvers are harder than normal to come by this year. The south end is FULL of short landlocks as well which makes targeting decent silvers a bit harder. Just when everything is running right almost every rod will fire with landlocks 17" and under. Had to grind from 545 til 1030 sunday to catch a brown and a landlock that were legal. Caught lakers in the mix but definitely a challenge. Can't help but think it could have something to do with the "off" color of the water aswell. Had a decent spring with some quality silvers buy it's been tricky since the lake colored up after the heavy rains in June. Hopefully it gets better from here on out!

I have also wondered how long before the fish take a hit from the fishing pressure. I keep 2 to 4 fish for consumption every other time out , I get out a couple times a week or try to . I seen charters come back in with pack coolers . Witch is ok by me . I would want to keep fish to take home also . Catch and release.. When the water is cold the fish go back pretty easy. Now it's hot it's much harder to get them to go back . I have had my share of floaters..witch makes me feel I killing the fish just so I can have a good time ..
I'm a rookie so this is just imo.

I fished Seneca for the most part and move over to Cayuga cause the fishing got hard and the quality die off for me . I got my fingers crossed to see Seneca to return to the pass days and Cayuga to keep producing the way it is . ..

I agree about how the over harvest and pressure are going to take a negative effect on the lake. Especially now that ALL of the other finger lakes are struggling and there are far more boats on Cayuga. Changing the limit to 5 fish each may not have been the best option. I know the boat I've been mating on is one of the charters you're talking about and we do encourage catch and release however as you mentioned if they are allowed to keep a limit you can't deny that to them. In my opinion I would like to see a 3 Laker limit again and maybe even entertain the idea of only 1 fish over 28inches. Alot of people wouldn't like it however protecting the strongest of our finger lakes for future generations needs to be a priority.

  6. I won some heads last year at the Tom Margeit memorial Derby. Thought the hooks were thin until I tried jigging and realized how much that helps having a thin hook. Hook might get bent too bad every so often so just change heads and you're back in business

  7. Feel free to start registering as soon as possible guys! Chicken BBQ again this year and it's one of the better paying derbies in the finger lakes! Last year has amazing boxes brought to the scales as well! Feel free to contact me this year as well to register I will meet with in reason if it helps you out hope to see some new faces this year!
