    I have a bunch of hi-lo rigs with bucktail teaser hooks for saltwater fishing, just curious has anyone ever used something simmilar for jigging lakers? if so what are your thoughts? I was thinking about trying them out next week, 1/2 - 1-1/2oz bucktail with teaser about 1.5' above that. Ben

Good excuse to get out on the water! Plain old ROYGBIV spoons and jigs, different weather, Time of day, ext. Time to set up an experiment and fish in the name of science!     I had a passing thought about different lures and how they are expressed at different depths. I know fish want different things on different days but has anyone noticed a pattern with depth and color? I'm tying up a number of different color bucktails to try sometime in the future.     Going to go out the morning of Thanksgiving with some friends on Cayuga out of Dean's or Sheldrake. Most likely jigging from kayaks. any advice or word on conditions?     I have an older Eagle Run 12 sit in kayak. I have tried dipsey divers, deep diving stick baits and jigging mostly to no avail. I imagine there is a great impracticality with having to paddle a downrigger around, but are there any other options? I am in college and can not afford one of the pedal drive fishing kayacks and all of that jazz. I have a limited budget but am willing to try anything to expand my reach on the lakes. EDIT: I can't say I've been using dipsey divers correctly.     Thanks for all of the advice! I went back out this morning and fished from 50-150fow lots of the bait balls Anda few arches mixed in. I managed to get a few to rise up to my jig, but no takers, using 1-1-1/2oz bucktails. Rain drove us off the water. Only found signs of life in ~40-60fow on the sonar.     Went out this morning 7:30-9 and trying to target lake trout on the jig, still trying to figure out the settings on my sonar, any help would be greatly appreciated. The first two pictures are of a "Fuzz" that would come and go covering surface to bottom, I couldn't even see my jig dropping down. I tried turning down the gain but to little avail. I fished these pockets of "fuz' thinking it might be bait but to no avail. I was also having a hard time deciphering the bottom, my depth reading was also jumping around a lot going through the patches. Ended up getting Skunked, trying again tomorrow morning In the rain.     I am curious to see what other people look for when jigging for lake trout. Things such as water temp, weather, wind, depth, sonar, color, do you spit into the water, ext. I think it would be neat to see what folks have to say.

    I have been using my striker 4 from my kayak for a few months now and still can't figure out what settings I should have it at. I'm jigging for lakers in 50-130FOW.     I'm new to fishing out of a kayak for trout and salmon in the lakes. Any tips or info would be great! I have a 12' fishing kayak and a Garmin striker 4 fish finder. I managed to do some productive jigging in September-October but soon found myself coming up empty handed.....and cold. I usually fish out of Dean's Cove and Vanriper Whitlock area. I do have a dipsey diver but an not quite sure how to use it or if it will work from a kayak. I was jigging bucktails with a 5" soft plastic this past fall amd they seemed to love them in 80-110 FOW until they didn't. I'm not sure what what I'm doing wrong because, well.... I don't know what I'm doing in the first place. What should I be looking for on the fish finder, what frequency should I have it at and what rigs should I run?
