  1. We got a late start at 845 as there was still some debris in the water from last weeks flooding. Surface temperature is in the mid 70s and the thermocline was all over the place.

Fished the southern points of the lake.

Ended up going 4 for 7 in 2.5 hour, 40-90 down, over 90-150. Lost 1 monster on the 7 color leadcore……But did manage to land this slob and tasted the rainbow for dinner.

  2. Hey y’all been a while.

Was on skn for 2 hours this morning.

Went 6-9 with 2 bows, 2 Lakers and 2 smallies on the high rigger. 30-60 down over 70-160 FOW. South end. Thermocline is finally setting up……30 down was producing hits. Lost

3 bows/silvers on the top of the water fighting behind the boat. Green and white spoons were the ticket. Kwikfish was also hot today.

  3. I’ve waded out there many times over the past years wearing chest wader armed with an ice spud to break it up enough so not to harm the transducers. You’re right about the depth Fishstix, probably less than 2 ft, was tight this past weekend launching there. Lake level has no where to go but up. 1st picture shows current level, 2nd picture was 2020’s levels. Usually starts to rise around 2nd week of March, with the snowpack still in the hills south of lake and warm weather this week it might be coming up sooner than later. I’ve stopped by the launch a few times to check it out this year. It seems the bubbler was not working as well as this year, as it it had in past winters.
    Any thoughts?

  8. Today's fish are definitely thinner than the last two years.  The flesh is also not the bright orange I am accustomed to, but they will be great table fare anyways. Unfortunately I did not get out this summer and only tried from shore this past week, so my overall observations are limited. Great rainbows any way you look at it.

Walnut those are some thinnnnn bows!
Those are the thinnest 22 n 23 inch bows I’ve ever seen come out of there.

  11. Thanks as always lyk2fish you offer great advice! I would like to build my own copper rig tho. it'll give me something to do and look forward to this winter. Do you use inline boards and clip the copper directly to them? What's your longest copper that you would use on Owasco?

I would recommend a reel with a high retrieve rate. I use seagate 60s for my lead core n copper set ups! Not terribly expensive n decent quality for the weekend or weekday warrior !

  12. Launched out of the State ramp today looking for LLS and RT on the southern half of the lake. Trolled from 7:00 to 10:30.  Surface temp was 62.  Lots of marks down 75 to 90.  Nothing high.  Had one hit high is all.  Dropped down to see if any LT would be active  Unfortunately, they were not.  Switched to perch and only managed some smaller ones, rock bass and a pickerel.  Found some schools, but they were finicky at best.

The lake is low and I heard south end launches are not accessible. Definitely my worst outing for coldwater species in years.  Should have stayed on the north end maybe.  A few perch guys out.  Nobody else trout fishing that I saw.

Seveys is the only thing to consider on the south end.
State launch n mandana Are a much safer bet.
