are you sure the motor has a charging system? What else are you running off the battery? the motor shouldn't drain the battery at all. but do you know the amp output of the kicker? are the other items pulling more amps than the kicker puts out?

I am not 100% sure the kicker has a charging system, I assumed it did as the specs on a 15hp Pro-kicker state it has a 12amp alternator. I run alot of other electronics, Garmin 93sv, Fishawk Xd4, 2 Digitroll 10 riggers, Garmin TR-1 kicker autopilot, VHF radio. My old kicker was a 2004 9.9 Yamaha, i don't recall what it had for an alternator but I always saw 13v+ while it was running even with all my electronics on. I don't think it's possible to get this model kicker without a charging system, which makes me think there is an issue with the my motor.

Thanks, I managed to squeeze the Fishhawk transducer in there.  It's working for now until I re-run some cables to hide them. I'm going to mount the 798 transducer on the trolling motor and remove the garmin and airmar transducer.  I'm going to put the Helix 5 on the console for now until I replace with a bigger graph.

I was also curious about the state of the state of humminbirds and if there was anything I needed to get without getting into the mega live prices.

I'm a Garmin guy so I cant really speak on the latest and greatest HB tech. I can tell you that for salmon trolling Lake O, I find both side and down imagining to be basically useless.

  3. I recently installed a new to me 2015 Mercury Pro-kicker 15hp on my boat and I don't think that this kicker is returning a charge to my batteries. I monitor voltage and am only seeing 12.5V with the kicker running and as the day goes on it slowly fades down to 12.1-12.2V and starts to trigger low-voltage alarms on my boat. When my main motor is running on the same gauges jumps to 14V+ so I know the gauge is working properly. The electric start on the kicker works fine so I know it's connected to the battery properly. Is it possible to get a Pro-kicker that has electric start but no charging system? The Model# is 1F15452EK, what should I check first?

Good morning LOU captains, looking for some advice on a new sonar system for my boat.  I recently picked up a 2017 Lund Impact 1850 for use on Oneida, Finger Lakes, and occasional Lake O trips.  The boat came with an console mounted HB 798ci and a Garmin something or other in the bow with an Airmar66 'ducer on the transom.  Both of the transom ducers are mounted on a smallish board and I picked up a Fishhawk and need to put that 'ducer on the transom too (it would be tough to fit another transducer on the board).  I've spent a lot of time trawling through the threads on here looking for inspiration.  I have a G2 Helix 5 unit that I really like and could use that in the bow, but I don't know how much bow fishing I really plan on doing to need a graph up there.  Not sure. I intend on getting a new console unit this winter probably a Helix or Solix 10-12 inch size to take advantage of the iPilot on the bow motor for auto-pilot.  I'd get a newer helix 7 for the bow (and I could use that for ice fishing too).  I'd like to avoid having 3-4 transducers off the transom or having to install a new board and drill more holes.

So, I'm looking for some advice on the more advanced networked systems.  If you were putting together a new system on the boat, what would you get?  Can I get away with two transducers on the transoms, one for the hawk and one for the humminbirds and use a Y-cable or network them?

Your bow sonar should use the built-in transducer in your trolling motor (if there is one) or you should get a mount kit to mount the transducer to your trolling motor. You won't ever be able to get down to only 2 transducers on the transom as long as you have 2 different brand sonars on the boat (HB and Garmin) and a fishawk. You would need to eliminate the Garmin or settle on 3 transducers, you could always mount the fishawk transducer on the other side of the transom. Just run your probe on the same side of the boat that your transducer is on. Networking the 2 HB units wont help you eliminate a transducer from the transom either.

Hello this is my first year trolling. So I'm sure there will be alot of stupid rookie questions. Here goes the first one. I've been told not to run braid on my downrigger rods because of sea lice. My question is if mine are set up with 50# power pro, what would be a good size to run in mono?

30lb mono, I use Berkley Big Game.

  6. I have two used Cannon Mag 5 HS downriggers. These have been upgraded with dual rear rod holders, extendable booms (3-6ft I believe) newer style enclosed boom end swivel, newer style solid pin power connections and low profile swivel mounts. These were removed in working condition only thing needed is the female battery side cables as mine stayed in the boat. I will post pics later this week.

$500 pickup only in Rome during the week or Mexico on the weekends.

Every Mercury outboard has a serial number label located on the transom bracket area of the engine. The latest serial number labels display a 2-digit number in a box at the lower right portion of the label. These digits coincide with the last two digits of the year in which the outboard was manufactured.

Ok, I see that. So it is a 2014 then thank you!

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question bbut is there any camp ground with boat slips on lake ontario.i would like to spend the summer close to the lake

There's lots of campgrounds on the lake, both state and private. For a slip you just need to find your closest Marina. Catfish creek has slips and trailers for rent, Olcott has several AirBnB rentals right in the Newfane Marina, some even include a free slip with a rental. For state campgrounds you have Selkirk Shores State Park and Fair Haven Beach just to name a couple.

Help everyone, new member here. My wife and I have a planned trip to trailer our 20ft boat from Maine to Pulaski over an extra long memorial weekend and fish for browns. We’ve got downriggers, leadcore, pretty much everything but a fish hawk. Just looking for some general info on tackle (lures, line, etc) I should buy and what I should expect to run into out there that time of year. I assume everything is going to be early this year and my hope is the browns will still be in skinny water given how early things seem to be. I’ve charted boats in July for kings but it’s always been a dream of mine to bring my boat to New York and give it a whirl. Thanks for any help you have to offer!

By end of May fish will likely be out a little deeper. Not sure what your definition of skinny water is but I'd say you'd be looking at 30-60 fow for browns that time of year. There may even be some Kings around by then too. I'd make sure you have some kind of divers with you (Dipsy, Slide or Chinook), 5-10 color leadcores and your salmon gear just in case.
