You must mean the illustrious/racist "Rev" Al Sharpton ,Jesse Jackson ,BLM,,,,Rod Watson  ,Elliah Pitts [from the Buffalo News ] and the likes are  crawling out ? Oh that's right those racist have already shown there true colors. Obama showed his anti semitic  love with Jerusalem already. I would be more worried about all the criminals he pardoned than a few white supremacist that will always be around, just like the black panthers. Maybe reducing the national debt that Obama rang up, more than all the previous Presidents combined ,or putting some of the 90 million people out of work back in the job force or getting the 6 million or so people that were added to the welfare system in the last 8 years off our back gives me  something to think about instead of being a snowflake. "Change any time soon" You mean the stock market going up ? Ford/Carrier not moving to Mexico, the Japanese dude that met with Trump awhile ago and said he was investing 50-100 million or so in some plants here and peoples general upbeat mood about putting us back into 'US'A  . etc. etc. Time has already told me what I hoped for!  My next boat is going to be named The Trump Train, YES

Oh yeah, GM is investing 3 billion nationwide into plants in america. The playing field is going to change, swinging our country into high gear again. A nation of blue collar deploreables have spoken !

That's right , It's only just begun . Take the big step backward ,downsize our out of control governments ,build the wall , deport all the illegals , and tear down the welfare state . People are making careers on welfare and passing it on to their children . Go president Trump ! Make America the great country it was .

You forgot to mention we are a nation of deploreables. What really kills me is my little 12 yr Little brother comes home and says Trump is a bad man. Teachers need to stay on curriculum and stop teaching children their own political viewpoints & opinions.

  3. My fav fish to eat ! Love the texture of meat. Very nice catch ! Wow, 7 lb. I have a place in fl where catching 5 lb fish during summer is a good chance. Nice job.

  4. Yes, and I believe the DMV does accept a USPS change of address form with receipt. Or have sender change & send mail to other address. Then retrieve your mail with that address and it is acceptable proof of address @ DMV. Think it might have to be a utility bill. At the DMV then you can fill out a change of address form and BOOM, your all set. Then can register boat in ny

  5. Well I hope it works out. I probably look like a jerk for my replies, but in today's society everyone's trying to cut corners and for those of us trying to do the right thing we usually pay for it in one way or another. Even NY 'rs skirt the systems. Well, wish you luck. Tight lines

  6. Ya know what the funny thing is ? If we were talking about keeping the nviroment clean, safe practices, and making repairs or new construction just about everyone is all for it. But then you have someone that owns property here and doesn't pay boater registration, which helps pay for things here. We all want good things, and do enjoy good things here. But who's going to pay for it ? "Oh not me" Funny how that works

For 35+ years my boats have been registered in Pa. Because they use the address that's on your drivers license. If you have a camper in a campground that you bought elsewhere you need to register to your home address, right, then you tow it to a campground in NY State, how do you register something in a state you don't reside in? Ok here's another story. My cheap ass uncle who lives in his camper in the BRCG, wanted to get a local fishing license because it's cheaper, wtf we laughed at him, calling him a cheapF. He couldn't get a resident license, because he didn't have a physical residents mailing address. He was told he needed to get a PO box in the town of Dexter and it needs to be active for 90 days before he was considered a NY resident and be able to get a resident licence. This gets more interesting, I guess he had to fill out a form and it asked what all he owned, boat, car ect, well NY state wanted him to register his boat in NY his car what ever the dumb ass said he owned, and all this shyt came to his new PO box. Moral of the story to save $30 it ended up costing him hundreds of $$ LOL because he had to transfer registrations on his boat, car, camper, plus licenses on the car, which didn't pass NY state smog bullshyt. Bottom line to save a dollar it cost litterly cost hundreds!!  I don't slip my boat but for the time I'll be there. I keep it all in Pa. Like I've been doing for years, like said above, I'm just visiting. LOL

He does own property here and pays taxes on it. He said so himself. There is no problem with getting a Reggy here. Let me cut through the BS. The man pays enough taxes here already. He's trying to cut his Reggy costs by registering in pa. The man owns property on Mexico Bay ! Why pay in a state you don't operate in ? If I went to Florida to fish 6 months a year, that's where I would register the boat. He asked for opinion. People disagree with my opinion that's OK too.

    Moonfish,

First off, let me thank you for your reply and input.

Now, a little about me. I have been fishing Lake Ontario for the better part of 40 years, ever since I was a kid. My family has had property along Mexico Bay since the early 1900's and I currently have property along the lake shoreline. I pay property taxes, school taxes and flood insurance, all for a property I use 6 months out of the year. I'm not some out-of-stater that randomly drives up to the lake.

My original post was merely a question as to what other out of staters do and if anyone knows of any truth to what I was told by the DEC officer. That's all. I'm not "whining" or feeling priviledged for utilizing Lake Ontario for my recreational purposes. I purchase an out-of-state NY fishing license every year and it is the ONLY fishing license I have. I do not have a PA fishing license and haven't in over 20 years.

I'm not questioning your fishing license. You know what makes this even worse ? You have family and family property here and you run the boat here, but you register in Pennsylvania. Why don't you register the boat to the Mexico Bay address ?  You said yourse!f in original post YOU ARE AWARE that where you use your boat primarily is where you need to register. And yet for 40 yrs you register out of state. Well right there is where you contradict yourself. Now your only concerned because an officer called you out. I can't believe it. 40 yrs of Reggy went to another state you don't even operate in and you own property and pay taxes here. Wow. You put up this post and asked for peoples opinions. Now I'm giving you mine. PAY UP

Moonfish, you do need all 3 to fish Allegheny reservoir in NY. because NY was afraid they would loose $$$$ if they went along with Pa. & the Res. by having a license that would have allowed all 3 to fish anywhere on the water.  Pa. & the Res. wanted a combined license.

I'm well aware, doesn't change how I feel. If I'm docking, utilizing wateways, fishing, and contributing pollution (which every engine does) for 6 mo's in a state I don't reside in I would expect to pay. Better yet why would I pay for registration in pennsylvania when it doesn't even get operated there ? That money should go to NY. where the boat resides and operates.

    Boat registrations and State

This has been a question of mine for a few years, but never followed through with it.

How many of you live outside of New York State (ie. PA, OH, VT, MA, etc) and have your boat registered in your state of residence, yet primarily use your boat on Lake Ontario and its tributaries?

I've been told for years that wherever you primarily use your boat is where it needs to be registered, regardless of what state your primary residence is in. My residence is in PA and my Islander is used 100% on Lake Ontario. I've never had my boats registered in NY. I wasn't really concerned about this "law" until last year at the launch when the DEC was doing one of their surveys and I got stopped. They noticed my boat was registered out of state and asked me if I fished primarily on Lake Ontario, to which I responded "yes". The one officer told me that was against the law and I should get the boat registered in NY.

Anyone heard any truth to this "law" and actually changed their registered state to NY? Or is this merely a way to get more revenue into the state? My boat is in NY at the lake from April through October, and home in PA on the trailer winterized November through March. Thoughts, input? Thanks!

I think if you are a non resident and you have to buy a fishing license in our state, and you are utilizing OUR resources, THEN PAY UP  for a registration if this is where you fish 1/2 the year. If I want to fish Allegheny reservoir I need nys, Penn., & possibly even a pay for permit to Indian reservation that splits two states. Lake O is 100 miles from your border. Cancel your Reggy in November, get a refund from NYS DMV, and renew it in April if you don't like losing money for 6 months when your not using boat.

Honestly I think your whining about little. Appreciate the fact that you can come here to do it. There's a lot of people that wish they had a boat so they didn't have to fish from shore. Count your blessings, even if it means you have to pay for NYS Reggy.

    Buck tail jigs

I've been tying trolling streamers for a bunch of years and a friend asked if I could tie some hair jigs for ice fishing, targeting perch and crappie.

    Any pointers greatly appreciated.

1/16-1\4 oz Jighead's. Some skirts I would keep short if the angler want to put bait or say a twister tail on it. That way hairs don't interfere with action. You would also need to ask your friend what species of baitfish there are in the waters he fishes, and what colors have worked for him. From what I know white chartreuse brown green are decent colors. But a lot depends on water clarity, depth of water, and species. Try searching utube as well

I posted similar information on Ice Shanty right below the thread where a guy fell through multiple times trying to get to shore at Sodus (turned around and went to a known bad spot), and there's still guys who have never fished there before who want ice reports :question:

I'd think that when somebody tells you it's the sketchiest ice they've been on in years, you'd either prepare accordingly--if you're experienced and don't mind getting wet--or at least seriously reconsider your options. Even if it's stay at home and watch the playoffs. But there's always somebody...

I'd never tell anybody not to so whatever they want, and we were out there so I'm not going to cast stones, but if I were a newbie I guess I'd think twice before waltzing into an unknown and unsafe situation. Or at least I wouldn't advertise my IQ on a public forum

Happen to know if south launch is doable ?

  14. Always clean mine when I get home and then freeze. If they freeze shortly after coming out of water, IMO I could keep them frozen and clean within 24 hrs. As long as they are frozen there ain't gonna be much bacteria growing in 24 hrs or less.

I would be more concerned about hanging a deer to bleed out. That's just me.

People will give you info. When people say they are marking fish at x depths and have x amount of line out you can duplicate what they are doing. Most of the time people are fishing with wire but useing and duplicating what they are doing with braid will get you alot closers to the fishes than you will with mono. And yes you can pop the dipsy useing a setting the hook motion but you won't be able to do that with mono if you are fishing at any real depth. If you want to find out what depth your braid diver is running troll in a certain depth of water and let out line until late your diver strikes bottom. Then you can figure out how much line you had out for what you are seeing on your radar and you will be able to make your own chart. I have noticed that a 3 to 1 ratio works with a size 1 dipsy set from 0 to 1 pretty close and after that 2 and 3 settings are 5 to 1. Also you are losing alot of depth capabilities because of the stretch in the mono. It will belly out.

I don't understand what you mean by 3 to 1 ratio. What are you comparing ? Mono to braid ?

  16. Yeah your probably right. But its a real guessing game using braid if there aren't charts and no on e gives gives any tips. Like a #1 dipsy on setting one, say 150' back. I know what depth is for mono. If I'm slow trolling 1.5 mph then I need to let more line out to get it deeper or change the setting. I can work with that. But I have no info on braid. Like I said, I have to buy trolling bible.

I know of people that use mono as well. Can't you adjust tension release on dipsy ? I've seen in videos too where they have tripped the dipsy release, like setting a hook. I'm willing to take advice. I guess I could find braid diameter like 20- 30# but have to get a diameter comparable to a chart showing mono depths because there are no braid charts.

  17. Yeah I been on the site. Not willing to pull the wallet out just yet....lol. I do a lot of warm water species fishing, but I'm mostly on finger lakes that have trout/walleye as well. This will be my 2nd yr as a boat owner too ! So trolling for these 2 species is a new endeavor and keeping things simple for now is my best bet til I get some experience under my belt. I see it as a part time endeavor because I like to fish for bass and pike. But broadening my horizon will be fun.

I spend most of my time on conesus, hemlock, canadice, honeyoye lake. Occasionally Irondequoit bay, Gennessee River. MAYBE get to canandaigua a few times. Purchasing 2 okuma 7'10 planer rods with Magda 20 reel, church tackle planers, divers & pro weight system (Guppy's).

New this year for me, weather/water depending, is early spring shallow trout trolling on LO shores. I'm ssssssooooo excited !!!! Probably should bring some toilet paper with me 1st time out .......lol. Yep, I'm a certified OCD angler....lmao
