  1. Yeah, it stinks to have to think about.  My niece and nephew are visiting this coming weekend, and I was going to buy a small towable for some extra fun for them, but decided against it after seeing this.  They'll have to stick to fishing, which luckily they love!  Yeah I'd be curious to hear any folks thoughts about it.

  2. HABs

Just curious everyone's approach with the widespread/lakewide HABs confirmed on Cayuga as of 7/18?  Y'all still eating the fish?

I usually catch & release most fish, and save one or two to eat here and there.  So, I don't mind going 100% catch & release for awhile, but it's a shame to let fish weighed in at a derby go to waste.  I know there's varying opinions on whether these HABs are a concern with eating fish, and it's a relatively new issue without much scientific info out there about that.

  3. My recommendation would be to consider starting further north, maybe at Taughannock.  I haven't fished the last few days, but the last couple of times I got out, it was mostly weeds and murky water just about anywhere south of there.  A week earlier, I was doing great just south of T-Falls, but then with the weather and weeds, things died down there, and I had much better luck a bit north of T-Falls and and even better a bit past the scout camp.  Who knows though, it's in a constant state of flux out there.  Good luck!

  4. Fished the open box today, Kashong Pt. and down to Lodi.  Only managed one 19" LL (w/lamprey), and one 3lb rainbow.  No other hits for me.  Conditions weren't ideal, after all the storms, but some guys did pretty well considering.

  5. Suttontroller94, hey yeah!  You're right I met your father just before I launched that morning.  Really nice guy, and enjoyed chatting with him for a minute, even though I was pretty out of it/just woke up from a 2 hour nap in the park there.  I had a gig that Friday nite at the Boatyard Beer Garden in Romulus, and decided to go straight to the park from there.  Did some casting for bass from 12:15-1:45am, then tied up, took quick nap in the car before meeting your dad and heading out to fish sunrise.

  6. Thanks for the kind words, Sk8man.  Great folks/community on this forum, and I've learned a lot on here.  Giving thanks for that!  Hope to meet some of you guys around one of the derbies or out on one of the lakes sometime.  I'm considering joining the FLTA maybe next year, if it looks like my schedule will allow me to fish enough tournaments.  After two full days on the lake, the brain is already thinking about the next run and ready to freshen up the tackle.

  7. I was able to expand a bit further north than usual, for me, this weekend for the SA Derby and trolled today north from T-Falls up to Sheldrake and back.  Typically, I only go about half that far north but I was glad I did.  Stayed on the west side, did a lot of hours but with fairly steady action.  2 days, 28 fish.  Grand slam Sat (pic), best fish 7 lb 10 oz laker (pic), 4 lb 13 oz brown, 4 lb 12 oz LL, 3 lb 1oz rainbow.  Only made it on the board for a very brief moment, but that was a fun first for me anyway.  Sun, fish got a little heavier, though not heavy enough, 8 lb 14 oz laker (pic), 6 lb 4 oz LL (pic, caught near sheldrake), 3 lb 14 oz brown (pic), a bunch of smaller fish & 8 lakers 3-6 lb.  The derby winners landed some truly impressive fish.  Wow.

  8. Wow, 12-12 salmon is really incredible!!  And the brown and lakers too, wow.  Big fish out there for sure!  Best I could land was an 8-14 laker and 6-4 LL.  All in all did 28 fish for the weekend, great variety and had a blast.  Congrats to the winners, great time!

  9. Good luck to all!  Some great fish being caught, ran across a nice variety today and had a 7-10 laker and a 4-13 brown on the board this afternoon for a mere 45 minutes, lol.  Also got a 4-12 LL, 3-1 rainbow, and 10 smaller fish, all varieties.  Hope to run into something bigger tomorrow.  Cheers.

  10. Nice LL. I got out this morning 7am-11am, picked up 6 lakers, biggest 7 pounds. I hooked into something much bigger around 9:30am and fought it for at least 20 minutes. Peeled just about all of my line off at least three times, followed it with the boat, definitely felt like the strongest fish I've ever hooked into on the lake. Like a freight train, and when I finally started slowly gaining a fair amount, it pulled the hook. Wish I had at least gotten a look at it just to know what it was. Didn't jump but seemed too fast to be a big laker, but I could be wrong. Maybe a big brown. Or giant LL or giant rainbow that just didn't jump. Felt really big, extremely strong that's all I know. Metallic perch little Cleo. My pulse is still fired up.

  11. The storms over the past couple of days brought a lot of floating logs out into the lake, and there's some garbage floating likely from careless folks partying out there.   I fished Saturday evening for just a couple of hours without any strikes. Too much boat traffic I thought. Went back out 545am today for a few hours, started very slow first couple hrs. without any strikes in the area I've been doing very well in over the past couple of weeks, Then headed north near the boy scout camp and landed 5 LLs, two biggest were 4.2 pounds and 4 pounds, 2 others in the 2 pound range, and one dink.  The high water and all the holiday boat traffic definitely moved the fish around and I didn't run into any fish besides salmon today.  Happy though to keep getting beautiful silvers.  I'm curious how other folks did out there today.

  12. Nice to read your report.  The storms over the past couple of days brought a lot of floating logs out into the lake, not to mention, like you said, some garbage floating likely from careless folks partying out there.   I fished Saturday evening for just a couple of hours without any strikes. Too much boat traffic I thought. Went back out 545am today for a few hours, started very slow first couple hrs. without any strikes in the areas I've been doing very well in over the past couple of weeks, Then headed north near the boy scout camp and landed 5 LLs, two biggest were 4.2 pounds and 4 pounds, 2 others in the 2 pound range, and one dink.  The high water and all the holiday boat traffic definitely moved the fish around and I didn't run into any fish besides salmon today. Good luck out there the next few days!

  13. That's some great action.  Good luck out there.  Looks like the rain is just letting up now.  I see another t-storm coming in around noon.  Stay safe.  I plan to fish this evening before the fireworks, maybe tomorrow morning too.
