  1. I have a 20' ranger bass boat. I am running a 101lb thrust 36 volt 42" shaft trolling motor. Its actually for sale so I can upgrade to the "pro" model, but the shaft length would probably be too short for your boat.

Being that your boat is light and high the wind is going to grab you very easily. I would reccomend going with something similar to mine with either a 52" or a 62" shaft. You dont necessarily have to run 4 batteries with this set up. There are many guys who run 3 batteries with this set-up.

As for the remote control Im sure its a nice feature, but I havent any experience with it. Dont skimp on the trolling motor what ever you do. You will be sorry in the end.

  2. Pulled up to the launch at Conesus around 7am. Air temp was 22 degrees. Fished till 10am when my oil alarm went off. Pulled the boat and went to breakfast. 0 for 0 on bass. Its not cool driving through skim ice, and watching the nice close in on you and cutting of most of the lake!

Ate breakfast and called a buddy who happened to be on his way to Canandaigua. He tells me the caught 20 yesterday. So I change course and head for Canadaigua. Launch the boat and the motor is working fine. Run out to my buddy who caught one on his second cast lost another one quick and then nothing. Went the rest of the day with only a few measly perch. We saw them on the camera, but they just werent hungry today.

Felt good to run the boat at close to 70mph again! I will take these mild winters all day long!

  3. That dang trojan fleet almost killed me and my crew on my little bayliner coming out of Oak Orchard las year for the Pro-Am! From very good sources i hear they saw the bottom of my boat! That sucked sitting up on the bridge driving. I thought i was going swimming!

  4. You can use both! Last year the first weekend of the derby we fished off the Welland and our first rip came off a bomber fished behind a slide diver. We lost that fish, but our second hit came on a SD Dalmatian with a hammer fly. Two years ago it was a hot fly bite, and last year I had better luck on spoons for the month of May.

I will keep an up to date report section on my website and this site throughout May if you want to check for hot lure colors and combos. Also, I will be staying at the boathouse if you want to stop by and shoot the breeze.

You can also scan radio stations and listen tot he guys talk about whats working and whats not. One of the most important things I have learned over the years is to put down what you have confidence in. Its hard to fish someone else pattern.

  5. I don't know if you can select a depth range like you have mentioned. I usually only follow the top 150 anyway because I have rarely gone below that. In my opinion you don't want to neglect the top 60' either. That is where coho and chrome chill most of the time.

  6. Out East the fish can get REAL deep in July and August. This is where I have seen it used the most to curb the blow back issue. I want to see if it makes a difference with dampening the hummmmmm that is created from the wire. I honestly didnt have too much of an issue with fleas this year at all. It could be the line Im using, but I think they have hit their peak and are leveling off much lower than they have been.

  7. All you really need to do is make sure your string is the correct length on each side of the knot. I cant remember what they are off the top of my head, but there is no need to drill more holes in the boat or put in a dual keel. Although Im sure it would make them even better. If I remember the length or find a PM I sent someone during the season i will chime back in.

Didnt I PM you those measurments Gill-T?
