  3. Hi Gang, I thought this might be interesting. I have a Lowrance LMS 480 fishfinder. I was reading a fairly warm 125 degrees in late April and thought that might be a problem...Yes I was in front of Ginna but. thinking my Transducer was finally trying to tell me something. Finally I had ordered a new one and put it on...Now my depth is off. I drop my cannonballs down 15 and it is reading 17. I contacted Lowrance and the dreaded feeling they would require both Transducer and fishfinder to be sent back. I was surprised by the response I got. Below is what they sent me. You can adjust the keel offset to calibrate the depth. Press menu twice, enter on sonar setup, enter on keel offset, and enter the correct difference. Thank you for choosing Navico products! Navico Technical Support Hope that helps other Lowrance owners. Bob
  4. Hi Gang, I don't have any need for this rod and for $20 I'm selling it. Would make for a nice copper rod. Bob
  5. Hi Folks, I happened to be at the dock where I keep my boat on Irondequoit Bay. Some ice fisherman and lots of open water. Anyhow, I looked at the depth of water where my boat sits and it is only a foot of water. I really haven't paid a lot of attention to water levels in the winter but are we in for rude awakening this year? Last thing I want to do is trailer my boat but at this stage it does not look promising. Thoughts? Thanks, Bob
  6. Looking for old Luhr Jensen Diamond Kings Size 4 in the smooth finish. Would love the all glow and chart/green (no white). Let me know. Thanks, Bob
  7. Hi Guys, Well it wasn't a split spool but it was taking the bolts out that hold the swivel bases to the gunnel and adding in rubber washers and then really tightening down. The other thing was I had installed an aluminum "strap" that goes through two bolts on the base and then attaches to the side of the boat. One of these had split in half so I replaced and again added more rubber washers to where it connected to the boat and voila!! Run silent and run deep! Again thanks for the assist. Bob
  8. Thanks for the replies...Ray I have to say I had a good laugh with yours. This is not a new phenomenon but maybe I'm getting cranky at 52. I did have this problem and wound up replacing the clutch bushings and it seemed to have helped but maybe only coincidentally. Driving me nuts while on the boat obsessing that it is scaring the fish away. Anyhow I think Dave you have a great point. While trolling deep I can see some daylight on the swivel bases where it connects to the rigger base and maybe a shot of wd -40 may help in there but yes there is a lot of stress on them. Always something. Appreciate the input.
  9. Hi, This sounds like a strange request but my two cannon downriggers with 6' booms creak and I can't for the life of me figure out the sweet spot that is causing the noise. I have 12 lb cannon balls on the riggers. The creak I'm sure is telegraphed via the cable to the fish (at least that is my OCD telling me!) Any suggestions on this. Both port and starboard are making the same noise. Again these are ancient Unitrolls that are manual! Thanks, Bob Lyons
  10. Again, thank you for the great insightful replies. One of these replies I'm sure is the fix. Thank to all who shared. Bob
  11. Thanks to all of you. Much appreciated. Regards, Bob
  12. Hi Gang, I'm hoping it is as simple as fouled spark plugs. I normally switch these out each year but did not on my larger motor. Thanks for the advice. Appreciate it. Bob
  13. Hi, Spoonfed, thanks for the photos. They tell me a lot other than I'm envious of you horsepower. My old old boat was wooden and had the anti fouling paint on the bottom (copper based) and when I took it out each season I would spray it with Slimy Grimy and the algae and whatever melted off...super clean. I suspect you have that anti fouling paint on as well. I unfortunately can't have that on an aluminum boat due to how it interacts with aluminum but that explains why you are getting such a different result than what I'm getting. Us aluminum boat owners need an effective anti fouling paint that doesn't cost $100/qt. Thanks for all who responded. Bob
  14. Hi, I have a 1995 70hp Evinrude with oil injection. The problem I'm having as of lately is the starting process. It is difficult to start...runs real rough, stalls..eventually I get it going but it is REAL SMOKEY for about 4-5 minutes and eventually "pollutes" to a normal amount. Not going to get it fixed until the beginning of next season but any idea of what might be wrong with it? During the starting process, I have to choke it two to three times to prevent it from stalling which is how precarious it has become. It is only getting worse. Thanks, Bob
  15. For the record, I yanked the boat, took it home immediately, used a power washer to get the big stuff off as well as I could and then via boiling water/slimy grimy and a sprayer, sprayed the boat. Hardly did a thing. Still have a lot of growth on my hull and particularly on the transom. The joys of boat ownership!
  16. I have an aluminum boat too that's been in the water since April. Bottom is covered with growth and is in real need of a good cleaning. I've tried Slimy Grimy (Boiling water / Slimy Grimy in a sprayer)..does ok but leaves alot of the growth still on the bottom. I am thinking of Muriatic Acid but then I hear horror stories on it eating up your boat. Any advice out there? thanks, Bob
  17. Hi Rich, Will call you sometime today. Would be glad to help you out. Bob
  18. Hi Gang, Took Thursday and Friday off this week from work. Yesterday was a no go and today was a go but not so much for fishing. Basically nothing to work with. Had 71 degree water at 100' down till like 330 fow and then it went down in tenths of a degree. Long story short...100' down in 540 was in the low 60's. 2 for 5, both steelies and nothing to write home about. Looking for an east wind now. Bathtub water. Tighter lines than I, Regards, Bob Lyons Sea Lion
  19. Update: After all this I found I had to order from Big Jon. For what it worth. End of story.
  20. Hi Gang, I have the Big Jon Diver Rod Holder. Its real heavy duty and it has a lock pin assembly that goes into the base of the unit to adjust the angle. I'm sure you already know where this is going. I snapped the shear pin and now I'm looking for this part. Any ideas??? Thanks, Bob
  21. Selling a pair of Browning 10' Diver Rods. These are two piece and are in excellent condition. Selling the pair for $50. Firm on the price.
  22. Thanks Hank, WW and Big Dave. I appreciate the response.
  23. Hi Gang, I have lexan bases attached to my cannon swivel mounts. Two of the lexan bases are cracked and I need to remove them however the phillips head mega bolts holding these on won't budge. Any tricks on getting these off? Prior to sending it off to the barn for the winter I shot WD 40 in it in the hopes that it will free it up but I have my doubts. Appreciate any input. Thanks, Bob
  24. Thanks Matt. Just looking to extend my season and not have the constant worry of waves from the southwest and shallow water.
