  1. Hi Gang, Been kicking around the idea of mooring my boat in the Genny next year. Looking for a fisherman friendly marina that is cost effective (CHEAP). I ask a lot! Anyhow any suggestions or someones two cents would be appreciated. I presently keep my boat in Iron bay but the shallow water is a real problem where I keep it. Thanks and look forward to any input. Bob
  2. I am going to pass on the boga grips. I did more research and I'd rather deal with the hassle of netting the fish than risk hurting it when I put it back. I appreciate everyone's two cents. Regards, Bob
  3. Hi Gang, Was looking into the Boga grips and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them and what size you['d get...I'm thinking the 30 or heaven forbid...the 60. Looking for your two cents. Thanks, Bob
  4. Selling a pair of Browning 10' Diver Rods. These are two piece and are in good condition. Selling the pair for $50. Firm on the price. Thanks, Bob
  5. FLXTroutman, Thanks for your response. I am coming up empty with a source for this. Might be I have to go to a metal fabrication shop and get a piece of aluminum stock bent. Actually might be the most cost effective alternative. Bob
  6. Hi Gang, Went out fishing this past Sunday (fishing was ok, decent numbers of browns, atlantic, a small laker and some kingettes). Coming backing into the bay I clear the channel and then turn left or at least tried to turn left. I looked back and my kicker moter is laying perpendiular to the main motor. It evidently got loose, bounced around on the way back and caught the transom cap (thick aluminum stock shaped 2 inches accross and about a 1/3 inch on either side. ,-------, Luckily my kicker motor hung on by this cap otherwise we would of had some new structure in Ibay. Now I'm looking to replace my mangled Transom Cap for a 1995 Great Lakes Fisherman Sea Nymph...yes I hear "good luck" but figured I'd ask out there? Any ideas. In my quest to get this replaced I found out that LOWES bought out Sea Nymph in the early part of the decade and so far I've had no luck contacting them. Any advice appreciated. Thanks, Bob
  7. Hi, I just did this. Couple of things you should do once you are in there. I would replace the plastic sleeve that the axel sits in. They cost like a buck. There are a couple of washers and another washer that has ball bearing imbedded in it. I would most definitely replace them. Then there is the larger clutch pads which sounds like you are on to. BTW fish307 has the best prices and excellent service. Good luck. Bob
  8. Chinook35, Totally on the mark with your comments. I did find the best prices for the rigger replacement parts at fish307.com. They were cheaper by a mile as compared to Captain Garys. Just an fyi. Thanks, Bob
  9. Hi, I have an issue with one of my downriggers but I'm at an impasse with taking it apart. Does anyone know how the "axel" comes out of the rigger. I don't want to damage it and figured I'd ask. Below is what I'm trying to get out. Thanks, Bob
  10. Gang, Update. Found them at Lord of the Riggers. Had the best price and shipping. He saved me a trip to the store. He doesn't have them on his website but responded immediately to an email. Great service and prices. Second time I've ordered from them. BTW while looking for these on line I found out this happens more often than not. Found to either put some silicone caulk in the cap or the more robust solution is to take the caps off, wrap the tube where the cap fits over with electrical tape and then put glue on the tape and slide the caps over. Thanks to all who responded. Always great advice here. Bob
  11. Hi Gang, Somehow I donated a big jon rod holder cap to the waters off of Braddock's Bay yesterday. Any ideas where I can find one? Thanks, Bob
  12. Hi Gang, I long ago ordered some downrigger cable from an outfit call Mcmaster's. They don't sell it as such and was wondering if someone could help me fill in the blanks like what it is called on their site and also what diameter I would need. It was like cents on the dollar compared to name brand cables. Thanks, Bob
  13. Rolomops, Don't feel like you were alone. Was out there with you and never moved a rod all morning. Worked in and out of the mud lines and zip. Can only get better, Bob
  14. As always........thank you Tom. That certainly helps. Bob
  15. Hi, I have a Moor Subtroll that I'm putting on a Cannon downrigger with a 6' boom and w/12 # balls. I know Moor has a heavier cable they sell and was wondering if the standard wire is enough or should I go with the heavier wire? Looking for advice. Thanks, Bob
  16. Wonderboy, Thanks for the reply. I finished repairing the rod. Wound up not using epoxy to finish it but used U40 Permagloss. I applied one coat to the entire blank and many coats to the wrappings. Looks good to go fishing. Regards, Bob
  17. Hi, Thanks for the suggestion. This is definitely the deal. What type Beckman Bag do you recommend. They have all types. I see one with a finer mesh on the side and the normal netting on the bottom. Would you have a suggestion. Thanks, Bob
  18. Hi Gang, I need to buy a replacement net bag. My net has a 32 inch frame. What I'm looking for buy can't find is a real heavy net replacement. One that is not so springy. I need something with more gravitas (heavy). I saw some nets in Gander mountain that have what I'm looking for but I can't find just the replacement. Looking for suggestions. Below is what I bought from Cabeles. Nothing heavy about it. It is as light and springy as what I'm trying to replace. Thanks, Bob 1 of 01-3178 Cabela's Pro Series Landing Net FISH/SALMON REPL NET Shipped-01/05/10 1 of 31-6473 U-40 PERMA
  19. Hi, I have a Daiwa SeaLine rigger rod that is in desperate need to have its guides rewrapped and/or replaced. My question is what can I use to remove the varnish OR epoxy resin that is on the guides now. I bought the rod in the mid nineties. Thanks, Bob
  20. Wish List: I am going over these posts trying to get a handle on the lake temperatures. Wouldn't it be nice if we had a bouy out in 150 fow tethered to the bottom with temperature indicators every 10' that we could connect with via the internet to get a read on where the thermocline is. I know personally this would save me a lot on fuel costs and I think would be greeted with a lot of enthusiasm from fisherman. My two cents. Bob
  21. Hi Gang, Selling a 10 X 7 boat prop that I used on my 1995 9.9 HP Johnson Outboard Material: Aluminum Diameter: 10†Pitch: 7†Blades: 3 Rotation: Standard Prop is in excellent condition. $50
  22. Hi Gang, First year running copper off my boat. I have 400' of 45# with 50# pro braid as backing on a Penn 49. It looks cool but I find that the free spool has caused my beloved copper to kink in a few spots (I screwed up!). As much as I tried to undo the kink, I see the bump in the line. Is my copper compromised by this. I know with Monel, you are done when this happens but not sure of the criticality. Also, it seems that the consensus is the Penn 345 GTi appears to be a good choice for this type setup. Is the clicker durable on this reel..in other words can I let the line out in free spool with the clicker on without burning it out. I know the old Penn Reels couldn't handle this. Thanks, Bob
