  1. I had all plans, intents and purposes to hit Oneida for eyes on Saturday but the the forecast for the lake effect snows didn't sit too well for me-especially pulling the boat the 3 1/2 hours up from PA. I then thought about going lake trout fishing at Round Valley Reservoir in NJ but the 15-25 mph winds plus sub-freezing temps had me think twice. Damn am I getting old 'cause a few years ago neither would have mattered to me! Plus Iceman ain't reportin' so I thought the eyes shut down at Oneida!!! Walteye
  2. Landshark-Last fall I did really poorly in the N/E corner-and ran down to the same area south of Shackleton and limited out quickly-icons were on the GPS and the new ones are almost on top of last years! Actually the weeds were non-existent by the end of the day-but the eyes were there-along with plump perch. Thanks for the tip- Walteye
  3. Iceman-nice eyes!!!! Fished Saturday the NE corner of Oneida-lots of marks, lots of baits, none of catching!!! Finally took a moronic eye with a blk prism Dave's Kaboom about 7am. Fished the n/e section of Oneida without another eye til 5 pm when I moved over to Shacleton Shoals. The whole tiime I was trolliing the N/e section-I also had my Aqua-view Camera down-the majority of marks were drum and silver bass-with an occasional eye throw in. When I hit Shackleton at 5 pm-first fish was a smallie (almost 4 lbs!) on a spoon. IN the next hour-fishing just south of the shoals-4 more eyes on jointed shad raps in persh and white pearl (Thanks to Terroreye).38-40 fow-lure plus 50' then a 2 oz snap weight- then 40' to the board. I hit a school that caught either way trolling. Walteye
  4. Buckclub- any idea on water temps? I know that the temps are supposed to moderate the next few days so the eyes might still be out in the deep and the bait there too. I am certain that Iceman and Sluggo are going to get their limits and I will have to lie about mine!!! LOL Walteye
  5. I have always launched out of Godfrey Point and pounded the N/E section of the lake-99.9 % trolling and the rest jigging. Early summer I was having 20+ eye days running Dave's Kaboom lures in blk/slvr and purple prism. The fall for me alternates between those lures/larger shad raps in pearl white and perch and Renoskys (I would like to try the Renosky Chatterstix that worked so well for us on Erie in the MWC tourney). If you are on the lake Saturday-I will be in the tan/black Crestliner with the big white Evinrude on the back-channel 68. Thanks again for the posts and I hope all is well. Walteye
  6. If the weather permits-I want to get them eyes at Oneida this upcoming weekend. I had awesome results early this summer pulling stickbaits deep and was wondering if I could get some updates before I go. I had seen that Iceman had been doing well ( I hadn't seen a post from him for a while-nice to hear from him again)-and was hoping that some more posts will be forthcoming. I had seen that he could a sheepie- I didn't know that there were any there-I had never caught any and that statement will probabaly be thekiss of death for me! Thanks for the past info and looking for some more this week! Walteye
  7. I have had nothing but problems with Vanish flourocarbon-all my leadera are Seaguar. I have a couple of premade harnesses made of fireline-but I have the tangles as described so I do not use them. I make my harnesses out of 18# as it is stiffer and I like how it pulls in the water. I have used lighter premade harnesses and had many a hook break off with Erie eyes. Walteye
  8. Billy- thanks a lot. I will be running the Walkers next year on the Masters Walleye Circuit and beyond. It was fantastic fishing with you. U da man! Thank you. Walteye
  9. I like Gamblers idea of pinning the dipseys-mine loosen up and change a lot also-at the worst possible time, of course! Thanks! Walteye
  10. As far as 7 mph-without a doubt. the best trolling is with a west wind due to the underwater current-keep the speed between 1.75 and 2.25. as far as the c-sticks-I was advised by Fred Forsythe of Castaway Charters to spray the lures with clearcoat and it has seemed to slow the wearing away of the original paint. I have caght steelhead/sheepshead/ walleye with the chattersticks without a problem-but I have heard of problems with the eye coming out-and I had one that never ran true from the git go. They work-but not one of Renosky's better made lures as far as I am concerned. Walteye
  11. Chris thanks to Fred he put us running the deeper water, but he was doing well with the smaller c-sticks while we were doing better with the bigger ones. He was also further west than where we fished -but we had a school that was stationary since the previous Sunday and we just kept hitting it. My wife froze up on stage and couldn't say a word-but made up for it big time on the way home! Walteye
  12. The PA border was hot with the bigger baskets coming between the Brocton Shoals and the PA border. I fished the s/w corner of the "Breaks" and culled both days of the tourney with my wife of 2 months-taking the plaque and check for the 11th place out of 64. 120 fow down 60'-10 color core plus 100'-1.75-2.25 mph n/e troll-slower if s/w troll-blue/silver Renosky chattersticks and double willow watermelon harnesses on #2 setting dipsey-150-175 back. Walteye
  13. went out of dunkirk-2 to 4's turned into 4-6 plus a rogue 8 for the heck of it. my partner got sick but we boated 8 eyes with a 9 pound eye as a kicker! weather is sposed to be worse on monday-so we may just hang-winds are sposed to be 15-25 mph. it was solid 10-20 mph today-sustained winds at the buoy 18 knots. harnesses kicked butt today-10 colors lead in 120 fow. walteye
  14. I am heading up to Eastern Lake Erie to do some walleye fishing the middle of next week and was wondering if I should shorten my trip to Erie and hit the Niagara Bar for a couple of days also. I picked up 2 Kings last year there while trolling for eyes on crawler harnesses-but I have spoons/stickbaits/dipseys/leadcore/wire/jets etc. There is also an inline planer board out there somewhere that was dragged under and came undone with a fish I lost where it took a run. Thanx. Walteye
  15. I was using 4 colors lead and snap weights. The deep divers I ran a combo of snap weights and dive curves, the jointed shad raps I ran the 4 colors lead core. I ran 5 colors pulling Renoskys and Bomber Long A-caght just a few on those. Early in the am I marked a lot right on the bottom-but could not entice them. Saturday was a day like no other for me-I was alone both days but between dragging in the boards loaded with grass and eyes-my arms and back are killing me-in a good way. Walteye
  16. Congrats!! I was up on Oneida Friday and Saturday also-I was on the water Friday at 4:30 am and had my limit by 5:30 am plus 2 bonus big smallies! I have never caught a walleye in the dark and it was a first-including losing a hog at the back of the boat-netting by myself in the dark with just a headlamp. I went on to land 12 eyes that day plus 4 smallies and 4 white/silver bass. Between 12 and 2 I took a nap, anchored of Godfrey Pt. Saturday was even better-over 24 eyes and I got a later start and was off the water by 4. Both days trolling-best lures were jointed shad raps in perch and Daves' Kaboom in purple prism and black prism. 30-35 ' water/20-25' down/1.75 to 2.25 mph-northeast section of the lake. Average size was 18.5 "- 4 eyes were 21-22". Walteye
  17. I am looking to for a charter for me and 3 buds in early September. What section of Lake Ontario should I concentrate on finding a charter for the best fishing-or are the fish just spread across the whole lake and it doesn't matter where we put out of? Thanks. Walteye
  18. Thanks. It has been working for the past 5 years and I am always open to try something new if it is working for someone else. The Renoskys in blk/slvr and blu/slvr always get a few. One thing-I have never been able to get harnesses to fire-any special beads/blades/colors that work there? Walteye
  19. We are heading to Oneida Friday night for the weekend. Any reports from this week? When we were up 2 weeks ago we limited out trolling the 40' depths with Dave's Kabooms producing the best results down deep. Thank you. Walteye
  20. While heading up to Lake Ontario my fiance and I stopped at Oneida to give the lake a shot. Put in at Godfrey ramp at 1pm and headed west to Cleveland trolling east in the 20-30' range-marked very little and caught less. Headed out to the 40+' depths and started marking fish-down 20-25'. Set up with deep diver Dave's Kaboom shiners in purple prism and blk/silver prism (which both have been go to's)- and limited out with my fiance by 6 pm. First walleyes of her life-lake was a little bumpy with 20+ winds-first time for her on water like that. Dramamine is the choice for her from now on-what a trooper ( I wasn't going to get off the lake til we limited out) !!! All fish in the 16-20" range-nothing big. Walteye
  21. I am heading up with my fiance for the Memorial Day weekend, staying in Watertown. What were you targetting-browns/salmon/eyes? If I could have a lil more info-maybe I could get my fiance a bigger brown or a salmon and impress the heck out of her! Thanks..... Walteye
  22. Are you talking about the crawlers or the salmon?? LOL. The salmon were 17.5 # and 2- 15 pounders. Awesome runs and jumps. I fished the day before at Dunkirk, NY for eyes and limited out in the exact depths and lures choices but it was Erie not Ontario. The harnesses were watermelon/copper backs. The 17# was on 10 color lead and the other on 20 jet and 2 oz snap weight (exactly like Erie eyes program, the way I took a third at the MWC Dunkirk tourney 2 years ago). THe bigger salmon on 10 color was forever coming in........ Walteye
  23. While prefishing for the MWC tourney on the Niagara Bar for walleyes 2 weeks ago- I hooked in some King Salmon. All right-I will the truth be told-Salmon are AWESOME!!!! I caught 2 on crawler harnesses and one on a Renosky-WOW !! I also lost 3 other hits that sunk my inline planer boards (one was also ripped off and is somewhere on Lake Ontario). The runs, the power and the thrill are undeniable addicting! These fish were the first salmon that I ever caught-and I will soon be targetting them again. Now the secret is out-salmon fishing is great! Walteye
  24. Looking to fish (and maybe to catch) some walleye west of Rochester-any suggestions? I am going clockwise from Lake Erie-through Buffalo into Ontario and heading east. Thank you for any info (I will be glad to share any Erie info after Sunday). Walteye
  25. I fished the MWC last week-prefishing all areas. Chaumont gave up a few eyes in prefishing-I caught 2 there during the week (6 and 11#)-very slow fishing but watch for the HUGE drum! Fishing all over was better done deep (that is how the winners were fishing-2 oz snap wgt and deep diver blk/slvr Rogue). A lot of boats caught fish during the tourney just north of the Peninsula Pt. isthmus. I prefished there 2 days and could not get a bite going-marked a lot of bait in deep water (45-65)-marked fish coming up to 40' to the bait-I ran a dipsey on 0 pulling a blk/silvr Renosky down to 40'-marked fish coming up but not hitting ( possible lakers, but they are usually lazier and won't go up 25' for food). Lots of dinks at Sandy Pond- marks and bait along the wall south of HH-even the charters were complaining of finding bait and marks-but having a problem getting them to go. Good luck. My partner jigged up 2 eyes off Pillar Pt. on sonars during prefishing. I took a 14.5# cat off there on a worm harness. Walteye
