The missing year classes of steelhead were gorging themselves on alewives which led to thiamine deficiency and ultimately death was one theory that was kicked around. The question is why? After 2 cold winters, it seems Steelhead relied heavily on a diet of matures alewives and that was the cause? The theory still has some unanswered questions but I can I can go with it. But yet Canada was not affected the way we were.

I understand. IMO the tow line that you use has just as much affect on the board it is pulling. I use braid for my tow lines. Its doesnt absorb water, it has a small diameter, and has very little stretch. The ultimate set up is double keel with power pro tow line. The knot configuration is 9" and 14". Test it first before you finalize. An adjustment of 1/4" changes a lot.

What are you using for planer board line?

I could be wrong but Im starting to believe that the "failures" in Lake Michigan are due to the fact that the state governments do not work together. I really like to see the collaboration of the us and canada on everything. We are now seeing the USGS, NYSDEC, NY Sea Grant, OMNR all working together.

They didnt but even if they did the King cuts would still be happening.

From what I can find... Current LT stocking target numbers are 500,000 fingerlings. With the 20% "cut" in place for 2017 that number was reduced to 400,000.

That question was asked last night. No adjustment. They dont have the extras in the system.

Only real surprise is that the Feds will not be hitting their target for Lake Trout Stockings. M 2014= 971,000 lake trout (443,000 yearling; 528,000 experimental fall fingerlings) 2015= 975,600 lake trout (520,900 yearling; 454,700 experimental fall fingerlings) 2016= 384,250 2017= unknown exactly but less than 300,000 Fall fingerlings were eliminated from the stocking program and I believe the target is now 500,000 yearlings. The Lake Trout stocking in 2017 will obviously take a bigger hit than the initial 20% cut.
