  1. Jerry, Love the pics of the deer, I never get tired of seeing them either on film or live. I kept 7 of my cameras out all season and now have one set up in my back yard. We set it up last Saturday evening and already have close to 500 pictures on it, I am sure some are of squirrels and crows but I know there are a ton of deer on there as well. 22 at one time is our best so far, generally its 6-14 at a time coming in to eat. I just looked out and gertrude is checking to see if the coast is clear, her 2 boys are with her every day still, she is not hard to miss as she is really showing signs of being pregnant! I looked out at 1:30 this morning and there were 18 deer in the yard and half of them were bedded down. Even though we hunt its still nice to see them and study their mannerisms and how they interact with the other deer.
  2. a week after our late season closed here I headed to Maine for a sea duck hunt. Went with 2 guys from here and a fella from south Carolina. first 2 days there we got 30 inches of snow! that made for a very interesting boat retrieval after the first days hunt. overall the trip was certainly a not what was expected and things will certainly change for the future trips, as the old saying goes 1 bad apple can spoil the whole bushel! The fella from south Carolina was a great guy, he wasn't fond of the weather at all though! a few pictures from the trip, I did accomplish 2 of 3 things I wanted on this trip, a hen and drake eider, just couldn't get a drake surf scoter. I only shot 1 hen and only because I wanted one to have a nice mount. drake eiders and a hen eider one thing there was no shortage of was old squaws! but we only hunted them a little bit since we can shoot those here. a close up of the drake eider I shot. probably my best scenery picture from the trip. and whats a trip to Maine without bringing back a cooler full of these!!! the only problem was it took 12 hours to cook and clean all of them and the 40 pounds of fresh shrimp I brought back too.
  3. welcome, I think musky hit the nail on the head! You will not be dissapointed up there. the only thing I can tell you is that there is some hunting pressure there.

  8. yup RR & Jax are correct, One of my customers caught one 2 years ago and gave it to me to have mounted.
  9. headed to camp on 11/07/08 arrived @ 7 pm. Pat was waiting for me and said he heard birds fly up behind the barn at dark that evening. don't gotta tell me twice!!!! got all the gear out of the truck and headed to the barn to go bust the birds off roost. Got a good break on the birds and with rain in the forecast for the morning bow hunting would likely be out of the question. I had already cleaned the leaves away from my familiar tree after scattering the birds so with the rain that fell during the night I slipped in quietly and settled in to wait for daylight. Just as daylight was taking over the nights darkness birds started talking! I started out with some kee-kee's and kee-kee runs which lit up the woods! 2 birds gobbling behind me, 4-5 birds kee-keeing off to my left and the brood hen across the creek calling like mad. A bird gobbles behind me I know he is going to walk towards the 5 birds I can see coming up the hill from the food plot finally a jake walks behind a tree off to my left and I get the gun in position and when he steps out a load of #6 winchester extended range does its job! All total my turkey season in Pa. lasted 20 minutes. Sunday morning I took a stand out the ridge above Bella where I did some spring gobbler hunting and saw a nice buck while there. picked out a junked up maple tree with grape vines on it and told Pat " I can kill a buck out of this tree" The rest of Sunday was spent installing a hot water tank in moms house and converting them from electric hot water to gas. Plus trying to diagnose a furnace issue on the new gas furnace I ordered for them this past spring. Monday morning was cold and clear with just a slight skift of snow on the forest floor. I saw 3 different bucks from that stand before I had to leave at 9am ( had to go get new pvc pipe for the furnace) ran to clarion, got back and got all the pipe cut and glued for plumbing the intake and exhaust on the furnace. By the time all that was done it was almost 2:30. I was a lot latter than I wanted to be getting to the woods, but none the less a quick shower throw a fresh suit in the tote let Judy know where I was going and I was off! By the time I walked to my stand it was almost 3:30 when I climbed in & buckled up! As I turn around I look over and there is a buck bedded 35 yards away! a little 3 or 4 point. I can just make him out, but in our zone they have to have 4 points on 1 side to be legal. So anyway didn't want to spook him so I quietly got the bow up to the stand and set down, Little did I know my setting would only last 10 minutes! I see a decent buck come up over the bench and he walked up towards that other buck and chased him out of there, the good one wouldn't respond to bleats or grunts. he walks up over the hill behind me. as I am watching the direction he went to make sure he doesn't circle around and come back to investigate the calls after about 10-15 minutes I sense something off to my right and when I turn there is another decent 8 point walking down the bench towards me! so I call to him, he must be on a mission because he didn't even pay attention to the calls, and he disappears down over the bench. about 10-15 minutes later I hear a branch break and look over to my left and here comes a 7 point down over the hill about 25 yards out, he mills around for a while but never coming any closer for a shot, he finally walks over the bench on the same trail the previous buck took. I catch movement off to the left and see a Doe sneaking along, doing the I'm getting dogged sneak,, walk walk walk walk run 5 yards walk walk walk the whole way along the bench. I catch movement again behind her and here comes a decent buck! she gets below me I bleat, she looks up towards me ( I have used a dogged doe & bleat call before with good success, a lot of times the doe will come right to the call ) she stood there staring up the hill as he got closer to her. I called a couple more times this time he locked up and stared my direction. He turns and starts walking up the hill angling to my right. He is headed for the old overgrown logging road but he is going to hit the road on my side of my marker tree ( where I started my scent trail) he hits the logging road about 40 yards away and like a beagle nose to the ground BUT he goes away from me! not to panic he has to sort out the trail I figure! sure enough he gets to the cherry tree and stops ( he ran out of scent!) he turns 180 degrees and here he comes like he is on a string! I can hear him inhaling the scent, nose to the ground weaving through the logs and trees on the old logging road, he walks behind a decent sized tree about 15 yards out and I come to full draw and anchor. There was a moss covered rock about 5 yards from my tree right on the logging road and with everything being wet from the melted snow I figured that would be a great place to put some drops of scent to stop a buck. Sure enough he stops and I can hear him almost wheezing trying to inhale more of that scent on the rock, I ease the pin up his leg and when it settled on the crease I released and watched the arrow buried to the fletching as he dropped down jumped straight up and bolted about 30 yards stopped looked back stood there for a few seconds and literally just fell over and never moved. Finally I set down, looked at my watch it was 4:45pm! I thought man 3 hrs 15 minutes in this stand and 8 different bucks seen and a good one taken! I hooked up the bow let it down and then unhooked and climbed down to retrieve my arrow. I walked over to the buck and said a quiet thank you and then called mom, asked her if Pat was hunting and she said no it was too cold for him, so I asked her to have him bring the deer cart. well enough rambling for now, gotta head out for an evening set here in NY. The only pictures I have are of the buck that mom took of me ( we left my digital camera on the couch here in NY )

  12. Its been a heck of a season this spring, lots of gobbling and lots of workable birds, And best of all Lots of memorable hunts with good friends. We returned to the same wood lot that I took my first bird here in NY on the start of the second week of our season. We had heard a good number of birds and with preseason scouting we knew there were 11 long beards in that 400 acres. We set up along “ field of dreamsâ€
  13. the boat is in Sodus point ny. yes its still for sale, the current owner told me it is supposed to go in the water just before memorial day.
  14. Played hooky from work today seein how it was the first day in NY. My buddy Hoppy needed a ride this morning as his truck was in the shop. picked him up at 4:30 and headed over to the same first day spot as last year. decided to set at the same tree as I killed my first day bird last year. 5:15 brought the first distant gobble up past the bean field, 5:25 ole wattery gobble let loose 150 yards to my left. under cover of the leaves that have popped out I moved to the left about 25 yards and left Hoppy with the burrville bomber. The woods came alive with gobbles and we had 9 birds hammering within 2-300 yards of us. ole wattery hit the ground at 5:45! he moved north towards the closest long beard from us to the north, the whole time I set there I thought about past hunts here and hearing his distinctive gobbles for the past 4 years, would today be the day? I moved over 1 tree as it would provide more cover for me even though it was covered with poison ivy and I get poison ivy BAD! but I knew if the birds came the direction I thought they would come in sure as heck I would get busted setting there. 6:10 ole wattery RIPS a gobble right out front of me less than 80 yards! I could hear something in the leaves behind a big maple that was just in front of me and all of a sudden a hen steps out from behind the tree at 5 yards! she knew something was there but couldnt make me move......come on hoppy call again! he called and wattery cuts him off! the hen moves by me and I can see 2 white heads coming up the logging road, they get up on a dirt mound and I see the first one has ~3/4" spurs but the second one (wattery) has some nice heavy spurs but a smaller beard, it doesn't matter to me what the beard is when I see the spurs they walk up to 30 yards and now the hen is soft putting at hoppy they seperate I set the crosshairs on wattery and think about the last 4 years, I ease the safety off and slowly put pressure on the trigger until the shot echoed thorough the hollow and it was over. Some time over the last year he had broken both spurs off but had them just about repointed they were not needle sharp but man they are THICK at the bases. 23 lbs even on the LOC fishing derby scale 1 3/8" & 1 7/16" spurs 9" beard. filled out my tag, did a few pictures, stashed the gun and bird along with the sweatshirts as the temps were rising and so any yotes didnt get ideas and we went trolling. walked the whole 300 acres and not another bird would answer us! got back to the truck and headed to another spot, got outa the truck geared up again and we didn't walk 60 yards when a bird gobbled on his own up on the hardwood flat! we hustled through the cedars on the logging roads and I gt Hoppy set up right in an intersection off the main logging road from the hardwoods. I walked back into the cedars or should I saw crawled into the cedars. Pulled out the Burrville bomber and man he jumped all over the first call like a fat kid on a donut! I called again he cuts me off and he is definatly closer! I wait a minute and call again and minga he about blew my hat off! I thought geesh he is right on the logging road and I can barely see Hoppy but he has the gun up and pointed right down the road ( I couldn't see the bird from my vantage point but HE could ) I called again and he cuts me off before I get to the second part of the yelp........BBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMM and Hoppy is up and moving! Second bird of the morning was down for good! Hoppy said he was just taking it all in watching him strut and gobble right in the bright sunlight but he decided to end it before the bird realized no hen = trouble and got outa there, in one big jump off the logging road he woulda been safe as you cant see 10 feet into the cedars. man I cant think of a better way to spend a beautiful morning in the turkey woods! not just because we both scored but Hoppy is like me a die hard turkey hunter, not just one that enjoys the kill but enjoys the WHOLE hunt. We walked up on a nesting hen mallard in the middle of the woods this morning! no water ANYWHERE around her and she had a nest right up against a huge beech tree and had 13 eggs in it! We talked about that for probably 15 minutes, we saw a number of deer 2 were definatly bucks and found some more treestand locations in our travels. Tomorrow I am taking 2 greenhorns out and not carrying a gun , I will just be the caller and let them enjoy the hunts.
  15. as far as I know its still for sale.
  16. Nick, I'm pretty sure its 1200/season. give Abe a call @ 315-483-4444 headed out this morning for the first trip of the season
  17. Abe was looking at Careys cove last year but then he bought the large bar/rest across the street from the lodge and that will be opening up soon.
  18. the bank currently owns it. not sure what will be happening with dock rentals this season but I doubt the bank will be interested in running dock rentals.
  19. seasquirrel, I am sure it doesn't have a trailer, not 100% sure but I think the 280 baha's are around 10.5-11' beam. as far as the rest of the info the owner can answer all the questions I did some siding work for him last fall and told him I would post the boat and show it since he is working out of state presently.
