  1. Stix, your Long Point at 6 plan sounds good. I'll be there earlier. I did have that wedding on Sat. after all... but since this is/was? a fishing buddy and he blew me off the past three trips... I'm going fishing!
  2. I covered something? Was it raining? Well that's good, I just gave Splitshot a bucket of pennies (maybe a few dimes mixed in) and said "use it for something shiny." So hey that bucket weighed about as much as a keg, that's probably why I'm off the hook for one of them. For the other two I'll just pull a stunt (or not) I witnessed (promise it wasn't me) in college... Beer delivery truck drives up outside a bar. Kegs go in the basement, there's a door hole in the sidewalk. Anyway he pull out a few kegs and sets them on the sidewalk near the hole, goes inside to the basement to unlock the hole.... yup you guessed it, these two guys come along and pick up a keg! Zip around the corner they go! I know they were stealing the beer but it was pretty funny to watch this whole thing. I couldn't tell if the delivery guy ever figured it out either. (Living room window faced the street.) Anyway... I'm going to need the next week to find the fish... lots of lakers recently but the trout and salmon have (almost) disappeared on me.
  3. Fleas and weeds were terrible last weekend, probably still are. Fleaflicker (20 lb worked for me) kept them down to just a gob at the knot, the weeds were the worst. Nothing like hauling in a dipsey that hit a floating weed mat!
  4. I have just started to use streamers. Coming from flyfishing and not lake trolling (new to trolling this year) it seems more natural for me to run streamer patterns over trolling flies. I also tie my own so it's fun in that aspect too. I'm confident with a few of them already so why not? When trolling here I'm targeting LL's... I figure generations of Maine and Adirondack fishermen can't be wrong!
  5. Yup, fishing Cayuga... either end depending on the wind and weather. No radio in my little guy but wave at everybody, might see me.
  6. Maybe in a year or two I'll get a wire rod going. I can definitely see the advantage after messing with mono dipsys!
  7. Hey rustyrat, good question. I vote we can cull boatside as long as they aren't bleeding or mangled. There's a lot of barely-legal LLs out there! Just my opinion though, we'll see what the masses think. And what is this dialing you keep speaking of? Care to share? No details, pics maybe? I'm feeling good too, I got my first trout slam today! No real size but the laker was a bit of a surprise. Salmon (2) program is going downhill this week but a brown, rainbows (2), and a fat laker made up for it. This picture is for Strike3, who I had the pleasure of meeting today. Nicest fish of the day. Good luck this week!
  8. Stix, I'm keeping an eye on the fish for us! (Even learning a little LL trolling in the process.) We should be in good shape next month. I'll know where the fish are and you'll know how to catch them. Right?!? (Good luck in Sodus!) Stinger, don't be bashful, you took a three week break so there would be some lunkers left in your honey-holes come August... I see right through your mind games!
  9. Hey Dan thanks, I know there aren't many around but from your and RR reports you guys are getting lucky! (Bows) That's cool. But like you said just before, I'm not complaining about the salmon either! For my first year I'm pretty happy. Ray- gotta say thanks, a purple (grape!) / silver is one I run most morning thanks to your advice, replaced the treble with a red one, makes it kinda sexy. Other colors, green, silver spoons, ran brass one morning with good results. I'm gonna have to figure out how to troll down to 50+ though if the fleas are starting to get bad I dunno I may wait.
  10. I've been doing some trolling but I don't know where you guys are finding the rainbows! Maybe my colors aren't bright enough? I hear they like hot colors. I keep catching lots and lots of 15-18" LL's with the occasional larger fish thrown in. Last week a 24" and 28" LL. Couple chubby short 3 lb browns but that's it for trout. I don't have any flashers except one of those 4"ers, all spoons behind a dipsey. I'm not running anything below 30-40 feet when trolling. Partly out of necessity (no gear), partly b/c I jig for my lakers. Overall I've had a great couple weeks, this is my first year trolling and it's starting to click!
  11. BlueEye, try setting a cron job to back up the site every day, and have the backup emailed to a gmail account. Gmail is great for backups! (So are cron jobs! This way you can have daily backups without ever having to make one yourself again, only worry about it if something happens. Just a suggestion, good luck!
  12. Did they look like trout? Parr marks on rainbows? The DEC has been stocking the lake recently with various trout species.
  13. HAHAHAHA!! NICE! That is too funny!
  14. Split, thanks for doing the legwork on this one. Looks good! Nice going on Owasco too, get any trophies for that brown? I'll be happy to chip in on this next time I see you out there.
  15. Done okay though not much recently, weather and stuff kept me off the water most of the week. Fish (lakers) were still deep 120-150 last time I was out though hungry. Some bait is beginning to move up. Surface was 47-49 but that was before cold and wind. South end supposedly okay for browns, a few salmon. Not much in the Taughannock area the past few days. Nasty weather this week!! Weekend doesn't look good either, may have to skip Barney's.
  16. Uh oh sounds dangerous... count me in! Also please PM the details of plan B so I know what I just agreed to do...
  17. I just looked at Taughannock. Docks in the marina are underwater (this includes ramp dock), and the stone bridge now goes to an island- the marina is connected to the lake on the North side of that bridge, the little hut is standing in water. Like ray just said, they can't let it all out at once, plus all the Fingers drain through the same river, it is indeed a lot of water! I believe the drop from Geneva to Oneida Lake is only ~22 feet, pretty low gradient and the water doesn't move too fast. There was still snow in the Finger Lakes National Forest on Sunday too. Also on Sunday, I saw that some homes near the Canoga marsh were inaccessible.
  18. Hey that's cool you got the steering figured out. I liked the setup when you showed me. Now for the real test... the first weekend on Ontario!
  19. First report here for me as a troller, well second if you count the blip about yesterday. Fishstix took me out and said write a report, so here it is! Unfortunately... Pretty slow. Out the shute and up the lake aways. I'm not sure when we had rods in but maybe 10. Three lakers and a brown by noon, noon-thirty. Between then and six-thirty... nothing. A big stick and several smaller ones. The sun finally made it out! Late, but better late than never. The fish were just off. We found a lot of fish, ran lures through, below, above, back through sideways, upside down and backwards and they were just not hitting. Had a great time, thanks A LOT for the ride, advice, and a good day! Just happy as always to be fishing! I think we'll have to do better for the LOU ALL, that is if Fishstix lets me back on his boat! He may decide I'm bad luck and just throw me over next time, hopefully the water will be warmer. Seriously, thanks again, lots of fun!
  20. Aye aye captain! I'll be there 8:45. Beats trying to rig wheel chocks on a rope which is what I'm doing right now.
  21. P.S. lampreys... last year I only caught maybe a dozen at most, all on lakers and all were 12"+, one "beauty" was a good 20" if not more.
  22. Stix get out a little earlier if you can, I tried trolling on top with dremarquis yesterday and we didn't start until 9:30, maybe not the idea for trolling the top! Picked a few off at first then it quit big time. Wanted to fish today but I snapped my e-brake cable putting the boat in, not sure if I want to count on first gear.
  23. Let's see, trophy room... hmmm I don't even have enough room to store all my socks let alone trophies! You'll have to mount it on the front of your truck as a hood ornament, or up front on your boat as a masthead! Splitshot, thanks for helping out, good idea.
  24. Okay, thought you were an anti-jigger though, not trying to tell you anything, I'm sure you'll be fine.
  25. Yeah sure but it's a pretty big topic... what I'd say depends on where you're launching. (Basic advice can be found on the 'www' link below my signature.) Other than that, past few times I've been out I've found fish 90-150+, mostly in the 110-150 range. Little tougher to stay still (important) when they're that deep.
