  1. Took my nephew and his son out of T Falls on Sat. morning. This was the 14yr. olds 2nd trip out on the Finger Lakes. Headed north to the Boy Scout camp but was slow fishing. Spoke to a few other boats in the area and they were having the same kind of day. Headed to the east side and had some luck. Three hits, two in the boat. both very nice size LT. Used Suttens, 31, 32, 44's. Great day for the young man. The last trip was only 1, 3lb LT. however, turned them on to a fish cooked in foil on a gas grill. Thank to the other boaters who shared there lack of luck. I pointed out to my guest that fishing isn't getting tons of fish ever time. I pointed out some of the other boats with better equipment and more lines in the water were slow also. Thanks to the people who post about their trips. Used some of the information in the posts as a guide for my program. Showed some of the posts and this site to my guests. LOU is a good place to visit at times when we can't get out. We are 2+ hrs. from the Lakes.
  2. Fished with two young kids thurs. for 6 hrs. The boys didn't want to stop fishing. They might be hooked!!!! Bit was slow. The other boats I watched looked slow also. Talked with one boat and they had nothing. We took 2LT - 18" The fleas were not a problem at the Bluff [ for me] We use a three spoon Seth-Green rig on a pole. The line was braded with mono leaders for the spoons. Only took fleas off once!!!!!??? You other fishermen ,reading this ,would have really enjoyed the kids energy and enjoyment of the sport and the day on the water!!!
  3. Sounds like Deans Cove is an interesting place to fish, if not for the fish, but for the other fishermen. Reading some of the posts I couldn't help think about the Pirates off of the Somalia coast. I'll be watching my pole and for RPGs. When I was there two weeks ago, my truck was the only one there. I thought it was kind of secluded. I thought it odd to see a police car patrol the lot twice. Maybr there is some facts behind the stuff I have been reading!!
  4. I know of a cabin owner who will row a boat out 100 ft. or so and let his sawbellie down. Then he rows back in, lets his pole on the dock and catches lakers!! If the wind was in your favor, drape your line over a natural float [wood] and let it drift your bait out 100+ft. Then pull your line off the float,, let it sink and wait and wait, have a beer, and another and you might get a laker. If its calm, skip the first part.
  5. Thank you! Good info from all who posted! We looked at the point north of Deans, on our chart, but didn't go that far. Will try the area again. It's always good exploring new water.
  6. Went to Deans Cove for the first time this past Thurs.[April 2]. Have usually put in at T. Park but my fishing buddy wanted to try some place new. We are in the process of putting time in on the lake and are learning how to fish it. Were we too early?? Except for fish out from the launch. the area around that looked like the dead-zone in a cellphone ad.
  7. I have found about 1 LT out of 20 will be more colored in the Finger Lakes. I have fished Sabago Lake in southern Maine and found the reverse, that is, they are mostly colored flesh. The flesh seems firmer when cooked and a more meaty flavor. The local fishermen didn't seem to know why. The lake has a LT problem - too many - so say the State. LT limit is 5 with a reduced size of 15 in. The officals are attempting to protect the Landlock fishery. I believe that Sabago is the origin of the finger lakes landlock salmon.
  8. Gave it a try on Tues.4th A few LL early then the bite stopped. Went in at Taug. Park. No bait around. Few other boats within sight
  9. With the nice weather expected, a 100mi. trip to Cayuga seems to be in order. Hope the fish cooperate becaues one of us is a steadfast repubilcan and the other an antirepublican. It could be a long trip. We plan to go Taug. Park and fish with some home-made spoons and Suttans.
  10. A friend and I will be fishing Tues. Concerned about the lack of activity at Sodus. Could go to Cayuga. Any opinion on which one to go to will be very appreciated. Thank You - in advanced!!!!!
  11. Cottonwoods can be either male or female. It is the fluffy white seeds produced by the females during early summer that give the tree its name. Just got back from fishing Keuka. LOTS of "cotton" and a few fleas Toonfisher and I got 6 LT 18" to 24" on alittle bit of every color spoon. Nice weights.
  12. Nice to see a report from a Keuka fisherman. I was beginning to think this was a Cayuga message board. Hope to get a trip up from central Pa. soon. Thanks for the reading.
  13. Thinking about the last fishing trip of the season. Thinking about going to where we started the season. Anyone have any info about Keuka?
  14. It was 2 years ago I fished Tauhannock Falls this late in the year. We did mark alot of fish and OK bait. The catch was fair Probably just an off day. There was a post about the so. end and warm water. Can,t imagin things have cooled down much nor that the schools of bait have moved back If things are the same, I'd try the park or no. of Myers Have you try the power plant? Good luck Mon.
  15. Saw you posted a message on the 7th. and didn't get a reply yet, it's now the18 th. I fish for lakers and never been fishing on Canadaigua so I can't help you. When I saw you were without a reply, it reminded me of my first time in northern Maine. My friend and I were talking to some of the locals about were to fish. When I asked what types of fish they had in their lakes and if they had bass -----they replied "hell no we don't got that problem" Any fishing is good fishing hope you also had some luck!!!!
  16. Looked at some pictures and the fish didn't look like a rainbow smelt. As I always say " it takes a big man to catch a small fish"
