Your story is all too common and brings to mind another important thing people don't think about enough when it comes to their own health and mortality and that's protecting your family with adequate life insurance. One of my biggest challenges as an insurance agent over the last 25 years is getting people(usually younger men) to see the value in life insurance to protect their family if something happens. So many people think it won't happen to them, don't make the right plans and leave their wife and kids or husband and kids holding the bag with a mortgage and no income on the heels of major loss. Once you have and luckily survive a medical event like you just went through you can't get coverage and that's a lesson learned the hard way for many. Good luck to you and hopefully you can get some fishing in this summer under the right circumstances.

I tie lots of spinner rigs and my new favorite place for supplies is walleyesupply.com. Really nice selection of components and blades. Totally agree on the plastic quick change clevis and they make bigger and smaller ones depending on what size blades you use.

That's the craziest hunting spot I guess you'd have to be there but it looks like if you moved and slipped just a foot forward your family would be cashing in your life insurance policies

Nice job on the late season deer everybody. I filled a tag Friday afternoon as it's getting late and a 15 yard shot was too hard to pass up. My dog gets just as excited as me when I bring one home from out back in the ole jet sled.

FWIW I'm basing that on 3 years of pictures. In 2015 he had similar rack size and the same drop off the right beam every year. He was at least a 3 1/2 year old then as a 2 1/2 year old around here wouldn't have that kind of rack.

The 6 1/2 or 7 1/2 year old droptine buck I've been hunting for 3 years and still have never seen in person. Only 2 daytime trail cam pictures ever and he walked through my foodplot on the 9th this year while I was at work. I think he called my office to see if I was there before he came through

I just take the primer out and keep the gun in my unheated garage. With blackhorn powder there's no reason to unload as it goes boom just the same after being loaded for 10 days as it does after being loaded for 10 minutes. I've tried this for 2 years in a row as a test because I always thought I might have to unload an recharge during the season but not a problem.

Blackhorn 209 is where it's at. The key is to make sure you use a magnum shotshell primer with that powder.

Congratulations Guppy and family on some awesome bucks!! No signs of the rut out here in east central NY in 5R. Pulled cards on 5 cameras that were soaking for a week on 2 properties and hunted both morning and afternoons and all deer movement is still first and last 2 hours of the day and lots of nightime pictures. Bucks and does feeding calmly and acting like it's October but I think the cold snap this week and weekend will really get things going. It's always interesting to see how the rut progresses in different parts of the state and western NY is always first and it seems to work it's way east.

Wow nice buck DJ. Congratulations. Hopefully you had comprehensive coverage on your car for the deer hit and rental to get you a car while you're is being repaired. November is when I start to get a lot of calls from my clients about that same thing and we have to get a claim setup.

Yes to winter rye. My neighbor farms a lot of rye straw and he is plowing and seeding this week. The rye usually gets a few inches tall before winter and seems to draw deer late season if there is no corn around. It is also the first thing to green up in the spring and then they cut and bale it before it seeds out in early summer.

I've had some Tica Seaspirit's for several years and next to the Tekota I think they are a very solid option. They are not a reel you see or hear about very often outside of their micro ice fishing reels but you can get them for right around $100 and I think they have a great drag and have held up very well. I like them better than my Diawa Sealines. Looks like Walmart has them for $95. Here's a link to them.

Have fun. Always fun to catch fish on something you made just like flies or jigs. The big thing you'll find is how picky the fish can be on certain color blades and with the quick change clevis's you can switch the other rigs out to that blade color in a hurry.
