  1. Its weird but it is legal to dispose of the carcass on the lake as long as you are 100 ft from shore but then again its not legal to fillet them in the first place , if you dispose of a carcass from the boat make sure you puncture the air bag so it sinks some species this is legal . Here are the regs it makes it almost impossible to be legal if you dont have land near by or staying at a facility with a fish cleaning station with these laws in place you would think they would have cleaning stations at some of the boat ramps !!!!!! Does anyone know if they have anywhere to clean fish at the Myers boat ramp and campground. Fish cleaning law It is illegal on New York State waters to possess walleye, black bass, brook trout, lake trout or Atlantic salmon that have been cut, dismembered, filleted, skinned or otherwise altered so that the species and total length of such fish cannot be easily determined. However, these fish may be gilled or gutted. Other species of fish may be filleted provided that the skin is not removed from the fillets. This regulation allows more effective enforcement of harvest regulations on protected game fish. Fish carcass disposal law It is illegal to discard any fish carcass, or parts thereof, into the freshwaters of the state within 100 feet of shore or upon any public or private lands contiguous to and within 100 feet of such water, except: On private lands by owners of such lands. If properly disposing into suitable garbage or refuse collection systems or by burial. Where incidental cleaning of fish for consumption is permitted. However, resulting waste may not be disposed of within 100 feet of any public launching or docking site unless into a suitable refuse collection system. Live fish and fish which must be returned to the water because of size limits, open seasons and daily limits are not subject to the fish carcass disposal law.
  2. Cleaning fish at the finger lakes We are traveling up to the lake and staying at a motel now , sold the camper we had up there after 15 years and cleaning fish now is a real problem . There isn't anywhere to legally clean your fish like up at the salmon river , your not allowed to fillet a laker or salmon out in the lake because they want to identify the species and the length your allowed to gut and gill but i want them in fillets so i can pop them into the fridge at the motel , What are you guys doing that run up up for a day or two .
  3. Like guff mentioned I have found lakers just dont hold up well in the freezer at all we eat them fresh and there great let them sit in the freezer for a month or two and you better hold on there going to be much stronger !!!!
  4. Nice catch of walleyes there !! So the bass fishery did take a pretty good hit back a few years , would you suggest the bay area or the lake for smallmouth if I make it up .Thanks
  5. Henderson Harbor bass How is henderson harbor going to be this season , are the smallies there are they coming back how bad is it ,
  6. One article I read from the fish comm. stated that alewives are at there most northern climate at which they can survive . They were talking about Lake Ontario at the time and the lack of alewives and that the younger ones are vulnerable depending on the winter .But haven't they been surviving for a real long time there !! Seems like there has to be more to it or a combination of things including all of the invasive species we now have .
  7. Sk yeah we come up from Rickets Glenn on 487 and turn onto 220 in Dushore then its a straight shot north to Cayuga lake . Chugbugs for pike !!! , don't usually think of topwater plugs for pike will have to remember that , I know the bass love them !!! What part of Canada did you fish , did you ever try Hay Bay for walleye !!
  8. SK8 very good report on the diary program it is very important that more people get active and fill out a diary they base quite a bit of there stocking on it . Doesn't matter if you only fish once or twice a year also doesn't matter if you don't catch any fish still fill out the report , its still useful info . But be accurate as possible especially with fin clips they do regenerate and it might look like a good fin but if you look real close you can see its not exactly right size wise .We copy pages from the book to take out on the water with us so as not to ruin the book which is pretty easy to do in a years time of fishing then when you get back from fishing fill out the book , don't forget the small adipose fin on the back rear of the fish . If you ask they will send you a key to the fish clips and you will be able figure out the age of the fish you catch and when they were stocked .
  9. JK , what part of Pa are you from , I use to run up almost every weekend from the Dushore area , not as much now .
  10. The area right out from the keuka village ramp can be good in the fall not sure about this time of year though, I would would try Branchport first depending where your launching from.Good luck !!!
  11. so parking to north and south is allowed ? They dont have a specific parking lot for this ramp .
  12. Thanks for the info , was thinking more in the fall when we use to get that good fall bite , it was a cold run down the lake from penn yan .
  13. What about the launch in Keuka is it residents only , sure would better than running down from the penn yan arm , I realize the pennyan launch might have ice now .
  14. Thanks guys , ill give it a try .
  15. Hey guys , its been a long time , I'm still fishing but haven't had the riggers out for a real long time . How bad is the flea on Cayuga ,was thinking about doing some downrigging near Taughannock Falls this weekend but I still have all the reels loaded with regular 25 pd mono which might be a flea magnet .
  16. Thanks for the heads up Hermit , is there anything going on at Meyers that you know of .
  17. Is the lakeside trading gas station in Union Springs open or still closed .
  18. The one I've been seeing is the real big green # 51 buoy Levanna east side just below Farleys point .
  19. Has anyone seen the floating steel buoy in the Levanna area , we see it in a different spot every weekend , seems like a real dangerous situation , I'm surprised they haven't fixed it by now, there usually right on something like that .
  20. Its definitely do-able saw a show the other day they were on lake superior if my memory is correct , they were really out far in the lake at a small rock island with a small lighthouse jigging huge lakers , they were using normal jigs but tipping the hook with skin from other fish they had caught , the lake was dead calm at the time .
  21. Woody , Have you had any luck jigging on the big lake , if so lakers or kings ? Wish I was closer to ontario I'd give it a shot , can you imagine a 25 plus king on a jig !!!
  22. Good to hear your back on the water jigging Alec !! Don't let my report stop you from bass fishing , I think some of it has to do with the north part of the lake that I usually fish just gets hammered every weekend . When I got a few smallies this past weekend I was further south and maybe that area gets less pressure , your way down the lake you might hit them good . One thing I'm guilty of is throwing the same set-up to much and not changing what isn't working , the other thing is I jig to much to give the bass a chance !!! I actually made up a list of varies baits I want to keep rigged up for bass so I can swap out a rig that isn't working without having to rig up a different setup everytime . Go get-um , good luck .
  23. A big hello to some old friends that I'm seeing on here lately , we fished cayuga sat. morning , did good for the most part , dropped alot but ended up with at least 8 in the boat . Best depth was around 75 ft. nothing real big this trip but some really good fighters , sometimes they just won't quit . I've been trying to mix things up a bit with some bass fishing although all I hear is negative, with most guys at are camp having a tuff time catching any bass at all . So I tried an area further south and landed a nice 20 '' and a smaller smallmouth on a tube rigged weedless . Also picked up some small weedless jig heads rigged with small plastics and got into some fun drifting for pan fish , ended up with an assortment of rockys , perch and nice bluegills for lunch , threw the smallies back and keep two lakers . A fun weekend to say the least . !!! Good luck !!
  24. Thanks para 2 , just what I was looking for, a general starting point .
