  1. Thanks Ray

You are more than likley right but with just 2 down riggers on the boat I thought there might be room. I thought I would put the DR's straight back and then run the first dipsy at a 1 to 1.5 setting and then run the second dipsy 3 to max setting. But when I tangle I will be sure to laugh thinking how bad you would be busting my balls and saying I told you so if you where on the boat with me. Thanks for all the input Ray and like you say if it is a little slow and I have good conditions that would be the time to try it especially becasue I dont have the widest beamed boat on the water.

I think as long as you are getting a reading it should be as accurate as it was before. I dont think the lack of tape should hurt I do not tape mine and I dont run the factory swivel and all is good as long as I have a signal.

I have done it in that area and down near clayton as well just make sure you know your water because the bottom is not always very forgiving also make sure your clutch is set right on your downrigger so you do not break anything. I have not had any success with the walleye doing this but I have found some very nice size northerns and smallmouths in 40 to 60 feet of water at times there. You may encounter a musky as well. I lost a very big fish using a 8oz trolling weight pulling a orange crush M.stinger Mag out 200 ft over 50 ft near ell bay last month I am not sure what it was but it took out 150' line real fast and then broke 20lb fusion off above the weight I would have liked to have seen it. Good Luck

ps: I am not a walleye guy so the baits I was pulling where probably not good walleye gear, let me know if you can dial that part in.

I was going to set up another set of wire rigs so I could run 4 divers but I have two rods and reels that would allow me to run the 50lb power pro setup without buying more tackle so I will buy some line and give it a shot.

  5. Hi Guys

I just thought I would let you guys know I installed a set of the composite pro troll smart trim tabs on my boat. They are automatic meaning you do not adjust them they work of a small spring type shock and they helped allot with getting on plane and staying on plane. This type also has an upper bracket that you can reach down and flip them into a trolling brake position which helped reduce my trolling speed buy about a 33%. They installed real easy and so far seem to be well worth the $160 dollars I paid for them. I will post again if anything changes with the performance.

  6. Just got back from a week up there the pike fishing is pretty slow but the perch fishing is awesome if you want smallies work 8 to 18 fow with sinko worms hooked crazy style

but just about everything from bait to jigs or small spinner baits has been killing them.

I hope that helped by the way I stayed at Mils cottages in Clayton and fished off any island or rock any where in the area and had success with perch in 22 to 26 fow or bass in a little tighter.

    Good Luck

  7. Hi Guys

I usually run mag size salmon spoons I like NBK and any black and white color works well also. I like putting a red eye on the black and white spoons I think the last bunch I ran where the fish lander brand. I put a 4 oz trolling wieght 4 feet ahead of the spoon and troll 2.8 to 3.3 mph surface speed. I look to run near drop offs in 18 to 30 feet of water sometimes deeper later in the summer just let it out slow and keep it from contacting the bottom and pay attention to your fish finder the bottoms change fast. If your not getting hit start searching with the fish finder until you get some good marks. If you dont have a gps with depth on the map then buy the fishing hot spots maps to get you close to areas to start trolling in. I think having line counter reels helps alot when trolling with the wieghts but if the water is clean of floating weeds I will also run spinning equipment with jr thunder stick deep divers in the hot perch colors with succes. Dont be afraid to run some of the larger floating rapals in black and silver and black and gold as well. Any way that is my N Pike program and it works pretty good most of the time when it does not we will switch to large bass minnows and drift we usually catch large perch, sm bass and some decent pike this way as well in the same areas.

Good Luck I hope this helps

PS I dont do it but I know people that run lead core line with very good results as well.

  9. Hi Guys

I went to cape vincent from 06/12 to 06/14 the N Pike fishing was really slow we only caught 5 and the biggest was 25" we usually get 10 to 15 a day that are 25" to 35" oh well we still had a lot of fun. We also fished for perch a few times and brought in several nice buckets of them. The pike and perch filets taste great and the hang over is gone so all is well !!!

  10. Thanks Hank

It was my pleasure to watch this boy shake while watching this big bird flop on the ground in front of him. Then after a bunch high fives, firm hand shakes and I have no idea how many thankyou's the picture taking started. I cant wait until next year so I can try and get another young Lad his first kill again.

  11. Well I took a friend and his 12 yr old son to camp friday night 04/25 when we got there we went and set up a blind for the morning hunt. I was lucky to have been able to do this because I had been fighting bronchitis all week but I did feel well enough to give it a try. We woke up at 5am and headed out to the blind as soon as it got light enough and I started calling we had gobblers lighting off all around us. Long story short the kid made a great shot 34 yards on a monster bird 9" beard, 1" spurs and 23lbs it was a hoss and boy was he excitied. The youth turkey hunt is about the most fun I have all year hunting the looks on there faces when they hear a bird gobble is priceless.

  12. Jax that was a very heart warming story thank you for sharing. You guys did a great job taking care of this guy he was very lucky to have been with you on that day. I got stung buy a bee on a friends boat one time we were about 5 miles off of hughs and my reaction was very touch and go because I did not have a bee pen or any benidrill. You can bet know I always have some benadrill on my boat now and I will see the doctor for a couple of those bee pens soon I think there called a epie pen. I am also glad to hear that awesome fishing report.
