The wife and I where out there too it was our anniversary and she wanted to go fishing so we took off work (what a great wife I have). We did not get the boat wet until 8:00 am and when we launched it she almost went of the end of the Dock! Bad start! I promised her 1 to 2' lake and as always the weather reports where wrong. We set up in 90' and worked that out 110' with a great screen full of bait and hooks i was excited until I saw the look on her face I could tell she was having no fun in those rollers she tried to eat something but it was not going to happen. We headed in to the creek and threw an anchor and hung out until noon and went home. It was a great day on the water and the alone time with no kids was great I just wish I could have gotten her a fish maybe next time.

  2. Is that Canoe picnic point state park on the north east corner of grindstone island? If it is I am usually trolling for N pike along the eastern side of Grindstone there is a nice ditch threw there that can be productive I also like to hit the picton channel almost everday. I will be in a cottage just south of big round island on the other side of the channel on the main shore. I have a 18' trophy I go by the name freedom and should be monitoring channels 9,16,68,72 give me a call. You are just south of the canadian fence so be careful I usually see a lot of coast gaurd activity there since 9-11. If you use bait up there make sure you run a bottom sinker when drifting and keep that bait at least 3' up the line or the gobies will clean you off real quick. Good Luck and give me a yell when you are up there. By the way for pike if you go the 1000 island bait store and get some 4 oz trolling sinkers and run some NK mags behind them you should do well on pike in 18 to 30' of water I find blk&white, blk&siver, Blk&gold and green NBK work pretty good most of the time.

I have noticed the smallmouth fishing the last few years has been tough in the summer months so I usually troll for northerns with good success. When fishing for smallies I like to cast a senko worm crazy style by putting a o ring around the worm near the center and putting a circle hook through the o ring a #4 circle hook works good. I like to cast this style worm near any island where the drop off is rocky and I just swim it back in a jigging motion I would do this from 5 to 30' of water. I also have drifted in the 20 to 30' areas over weed beds with chartruse green worm harnes. I hope that helps these ideas have worked in the past sometimes good sometimes not so good. I will be up there from 07/26 to 08/01 in the clayton area I could give you a few more specific spots for that area so let me know where you will be fishing.

I use 10' dipsy wire rods and I can get them out with the booms pointed out to the side. If it is rough out there sometimes I will point one back until I get the dipsy out. If I run 2 dipsys per side I would keep them pointed at a 45 deg set. I run a track type rod holder that I can put up to 3 holders on per side I would definitely recommend a track style rod holder set up. I ordered these Holders as gimbal style mounts but did not like them so I removed the gimbals and covered the hole with Stainless plate and mounted the tracks right over the covered holes these where mounted to my aluminum combs. I hope this helps. Where are you located maybe we could hook up and I could show you how it is set up or If I get some time I will take some pics and post them let me know.

I have a trophy 1802 and mounted my mag 10 cannons right on the corners the wood and fiberglass is very thick there I also put large SS fender washers on the bottom of the bolts. I have no problem rigging them there I either leave the jump seats in place and kneel on them when I rig or remove them for the day and have direct access to them. I run 13 lb torpedo weights with the 50 plus inch booms extended and they seem very solid so far.

  6. If you go to ebay you can buy trolling wieghts that are 16 oz and then pull spoons behind them but you will need a line counter of some type.

With 30 # mono at 2.5 mph you should get the following 50' of line should be 25' down. 100' line will be 50' down, 150' of line will be 70' down and 200' of line will be 90' down. When the fleas go away and you can run 30#power pro it should go like this 50' of line is 36' down, 100' of line is 70' down, 150' of line 98' down and 200' of line is 125' down. This info came from a trolling guide I have but rember these depths when using lead weight are very sensitive to speed and currents. If you try it I would troll in a s pattern to make them raise and fall so to cover alot of the water depth. If you have a radio call out to other board members to find out where the good temps are and what speed to try. Good Luck.

  7. I got a Berkley FS50 from walmart it is digital and has a range up to 50lbs. It just so happens I calibrate scales and other instruments where I work so I put some calibrated weights on it up to 30 lbs it was +/- 1oz. I find this pretty incredible so I checked it again this year and it is still holding that tolerance. A friend of mine I work with bought one today so we threw some weights on that one to and I could not believe it but it held +/- 1 oz as well. Don't get me wrong bouncing around in a boat it is still only as accurate as its environment but I think you would be hard pressed to beat it. I used to own a rapala digital and at 30 lbs it was not very repeatable and was off as much as 2.5lbs.I would buy another Berkley in a second, I have not tested any other berkley scales and I have not tested this one above 30 lbs but so far for 20 bucks I can not beat it.

  8. I am not sure but I had a 1995 4hp evinrude push a 1996 16' spectrum aluminum from 0 to 5 mph without any problems. Buy the way I have a adjustable kicker bracket with the quick remove plate to mount on the boat and the outboard to outboard ez steer for it to. If your intersted let me know and I will work out an asking price.

It all sounds good but you might want to put 30# SS wire on the dipsys because I am pretty sure the fleas will drive you nuts on that power pro. You also should spend a lot of time reading posts on this site because there is a ton of great info from a lot of great fisherman.

Its a small world I have been going to mills for about 11 years we use to go the last week in June but for the past 6 years we have been going the last week in July. We stay in the big 3 bedroom cottage at the west end. I think Al and Leslie are great people and Al's Mom and Dad (Al Sr. & Mary lou) are great as well. The place is comfortable very reasonable and a great area to fish for a lot of different stuff in any weather I cant wait for our trip in July. I have been thinking of putting a guys long weekend together for late Sept before Archery starts but I was wondering how the fishing is then have you ever been up there in the early fall?

I use daiwa accudepth plus 47lc for wire and down riggers they seem real good for the money 50-60$ depending if you find them on sale. I also have some Okuma magda pros they are ok but not as nice as the daiwas.

I also run 30lb trilene big game and 30 lb cortland flea flicker. I usually just change leaders or add some lighter line for spring fishing. I am pretty new at this so check some old posts there is a lot of info on this site from much better fisherman than me.

Here are some links to look at.

    http://www.traxstech.com

    http://www.ciscofishingsystemsltd.com

    http://www.lakelandproducts.com/products.htm

I bought some trac and six rod holders from lakeland products mainly because they could get them to me fast and they where cheap and the budget on the new boat gear was running low. They are not the best but seem pretty good so far I have taken a couple of wire hits and they held we will see when the big guys start smashing the wires. I don't think they would be what your looking foe but the cisco and traxstech stuff looks real nice but they are pricey and you might have to wait awhile to get them.
