  1. Welcome to the board these are the best guys on the net they have helped me a bunch. Dont be afraid to ask questions and dont forget to read alot of old post there is soooo much info to soak in here.

  2. We have one of the most well trained military in the world but most of all the bravest! It saddens my heart when one falls keeping this country the Land of the Free. The most important thing we can do is salute and remember them for the sacrifice they and their family's have made.

May God Bless Them and I Will Salute Them!!

  3. Well I searched the Internet and wound up on the hull truth site and the low down seems to be DONT CUT IT DOWN for a bunch of technical reasons mostly impedance and proper load when you transmit. I can try and repair it which I will do but I think I will replace the 8' 6db with the 4.5db 4' digital antenna from boe. Live and learn but one thing for sure I found out I am not the first and wont be last person to do this. LOL!

  4. Well I pulled a Forest Gump today and left my antenna up and it snapped about 6" from the top, it still works it just broke the fiberglass the stuff inside seems alright. I was wondering what are my options re fiberglass? cut it back if possible and put a new tip on it? Right now I taped it up so it does not pull off the whole way. Any suggestions would help.

    THANKS!!

  5. Hi Rob

I got out this morning to it was a little later than I would have liked 7:00 am. I did ok went 5 for 6 the biggest being a 14lb King, a couple real little kings, a nice coho and a 11 lb Laker that was a surprise. I was in 80-140 fow riggers down 40 to 75 got most of them on a fishlander spoon it was blk & white with an eye and some tape on it. I got the laker on a white spin doctor with a howie fly blue and purple off the wire dipsys. I caught some of your chatter on the radio and it did help thanks. I would have said hello but I had 2 totally new people on the boat so I was running my butt off doing everything LOL. Rob I have a depth raider and ran at 2.3 to 2.8. Most of the time I was at 2.4 to 2.5 does this seem right to you?

  6. The first time I caught a salmon it was off the summer ville pier and it had a big one stuck to it man those are scary slimy nasty smelling critters. I have also been noticing more lamp marks on the N pike I catch on my trips to the 1000 islands the last couple of years.

  7. Thanks muskybob for the radio update I will scan 72,68,16 and 9 that should cover it.

Kiethg this motor is tight on gas 0.5 gallons per hour trolling and 5.2 miles per gallon at min cruise of 3500 rpm about 17mph, 1 mile out 5 hours of trolling and 1/2 mile back was less than 4 gallons. Don't get me wrong this boat is only a 18' walk-around and not as near as comfortable as the bigger boats most of you guys run. This thing is a pretty decent ride for 2-4 people and I can afford to run it as much as i want so it fits the budget. It has a 52 gallon tank so the range is nice and it should last most of the week with out filling it up when I take it to the 1000 islands.

I was thinking for the guys who fish out of sandy creek, sometimes I have nobody to fish with if you would like to Boat pool on mine or your boat shoot me a pm maybe that way we could save a couple of bucks and make some new friends!

  8. It sure was quite out there this morning I was the only one in the launch Parking Lot!! You could be right about the Gas that is why when I got this boat I did not go bigger than I felt I needed I only burned 3 gallons of fuel trolling 5 hours including the trip in and out. I luv that 115 merc 4 stroke.

I think the truck burned more gas getting there and back.

Fishbandit was that you in the blue walkaround? What did you get those cohos and silvers on? Thanks for the report !!

  9. Hi Guys

Thanks for the report Legacy and thanks for responding this morning. I was doing pretty good out around 160-180 fow. 2 kings (1-12lb and a shaker), 2 steelies 1 around 6lb and a little guy. The kings came 110 down on a mag size glow frog and the steelies off the boards on smith wicks (Silver with blue backs and orange bellys). I did move in closer after talking to you and that's when I picked up the second steelie. I did not have a good as day as you but I am still real new at this and I appreciate any help I can get when I am out there.

    Thanks

  10. Hi Guys we finally settled on a name I will order the decals next week.

The name Will be FREEDOM since my brother has done 2 tours of Iraq and might still have to do another I could not think of anything more important to our family then our freedom.

    Thanks

    Gene

    boat name Freedom

If your out on Sandy creek give a yell.

  11. Hi Duane

I got the PM thanks for the kind words. You are right the people here on this site are great. I too cut my teeth on a 16' alumnium open bow the last 10 years on lake erie, ontario, 1000 island area and the finger lakes. I agree and I always say fish hard but be safe.

    Thanks

  12. Thanks Guys

Well I finally got most of the stuff in for the boat (2004 18' trophy walk around 115 merc saltwater 4 stroke). I got the depth raider it worked great and thanks for the connection advise. I then ended up with a Lowrance 525df it fit the budget and I needed a gps plotter so i ended up with this one (Jim @ BOE recommended it for my price range he is a Great Guy) I am still figuring it out but it has a 50K/200K transducer and 500W RMS also it has a pretty decent GPS system with an external antenna. I did want a Furon or ray-marine but ran out of money maybe in the future. I also had to get a radio and antenna man this boat had nothing on it. I picked up a couple of old mag10's for pretty cheap and got them on there man they are allot better than then those old hand cranks on the last boat LOL. I got some board reels from traxtech they seem nice and the cannon boards where pretty cheap from BOE. I have some rail mount rod holders for know but I ordered some gimbal mount triple rod holders from LPG products but they have not yet come in. I set up a couple wire rigs accu depth plus 47lc on 10' ugly stick roller tip rods with a 1000' of 7strand ss 30# they worked good during the shake down. I am now working to set up a 600' copper rig I have the wire and rod I just need to order another reel ganders is out of the accu+ reels. I am now officially broke but the Boat came with a full 52 gal tank and this motor just sips the gas Thank God.

I would like to thank Everybody who helped and the people who's old posts I have read. By the way the shake down went great and i even caught a little shaker so here first trip was not a skunk. I almost forgot i also bought 2 18" trolling bags from Amish outfitters and with those out the boat comes right down to 0.8 at idle so when I need them they are there.

    THANKS AGAIN!!!

    Gene

Now I will have to figure out how to catch fish with this stuff so I am sure you will be hearing from me again with allot more newbie questions LOL.

  13. Thanks stringer

I still have not decided but thanks for the input.

    Clarke

  14. Hi Guys

Well due to the budget and the need for a 500W RMS color fish finder, GPS and dual freq 50k/200K transducer I ended up with the Lowerance 525 with ext gps antenna. Well Lowerance has a special deal going offering one of two Map chips and I am asking your input on which one to get?

The two chip choices are Fishing Hot Spots East and the other is Nauticpath USA. Any input would be helpful.

    Thanks

    Gene

  15. Chinook

The Family has not been able to agree on this LOL and I have been spending all my free time installing stuff on the boat so I have not had time to talk more with them about it. The boat is almost finished Depth Raider,GPS FF,Radio & Antenna, Downriggers, pole holders, Planer Board reels and other little stuff like fire ext.,Fan for cuddy you know! Once it is all done and we go fishing together I will put a little pressure on them to make a decision.

    Thanks For Asking
