  1. Hi Guys

Can you tell me the best way to make the signal connection from the clincher release to the depth raider so I can still remove the probe when not in use? The clincher I have has rivets not a screw holding it together so I figured just put a quick connect on the excess wire from the clincher is that right? Also how would you connect to the probe itself for the best signal? Should I solder a wire to it or the clincher swivel or is there a better way?

    Thanks Gene

  2. thanks Guys

I ordered from cabelas this morning they had 10' MH Ugly sticks on sale for 29.98 with roller tips I figure if I dont like the roller tips i will get twili tips I hope these work out. I also ordered Diawa adp47lc accudepth plus reels they where 59.99 not bad. I now need a good source for 1000' spools of 7 strand SS wire any input there would be helpful.? Thanks for all the input and all the great post's from the past if it wasnt for this site I would not even think of trying great lakes fishing on my own.

    Thanks

  3. Hey Guys

I am in the process of rigging a new boat and I find my self buying all kinds of stuff and reading tons of helpful posts on this site. I need to set up a couple of wire dipsy rods and figured I would go with the daiwa adp47lc reels with 7 strand 30# SS wire but I can not decide on the rod to buy. So the question is how long? I was figuring 10 or more feet and what action is Med enough or should it be Heavy? Also is a regular rod with a twili tip as good as a roller guide rod or is it better? Any input or detailed recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  4. Thanks Tom

I will let the boy look at these and see what he thinks they are all great!!

I think he also mentioned Slam Dunk and a few versions of that one to.

Thanks again I have time I am in no rush to name the boat but I cant wait to fish in it.

  5. Thanks Guys

FosterI will keep that marina in mind if I decide to slip it next year.

Duane I think that will be the name, it will help the 8 yr. old boy keep his interest in the new boat and he gets to reel in every fish hooked!

Buy the way i picked up the boat today and ran it up to sandy for a quick seatrail and it ran great. The boat was used for 4 seasons on the niagara river only to drift fish so there is not much time on it. I have allot of stuff to buy fish finder, depth raider, pole holders, radio & antenna and assoreted other stuff. I am glad I grabed extra money when I moved money to buy it because I think it is going to be a little expensive.

    Thanks again

  6. Hi Foster

Thanks for the input I am still undecided about the name but I will consider that there might be a guy out of a close port with the same name. If nobody has heard that name on the radio when going out of sandy I still might use it.

I am not docking this year I have 4 trips planned for 1000 islands pike/musky. I also will be drifting lake erie for those smllmouths a few times to so I am going to keep it on the trailer this year we might change our minds next year. I did not slip the old boat last year due to some surgery I had over the winter before and money was a little tight. Where are you docking on sandy now? And do you like it?

  9. I have been trying to come up with a boat name and just can not agree with the wife on anything so i asked my basketball crazy 8 yr old son to give it a try and he came up with Nothin but Net I like it but was wondering if anybody else that goes out of Sandy is already using it. I some times go out of the Oak but not very often. If somebody is using it then any suggestions would be good.

    Thanks

  10. Hi Guys

I will be getting my new used boat in about a week it is a 2004 Trophy 1802 walkaround with a 115 merc 4 stroke on it. I have about 400-600 to spend on a fish finder and want to get the most bang for my buck I will be trolling the great lakes mainly for trout and salmon so please advise me on what to get. I already have a gps so I do not need a combo unit.

I also would like to get some Rod holders to mount on the combs that could be removed fairly easy. I also was considering either a mohr subtrol or a Depth Raider any input there would be appreciated as well. I know the trophy is not the best made boat in the world but it fit the budget and family requirements and gas consumption should be pretty good so wish me luck with it. This Boat should be a big improvment over the 16' alumnium I have been using and getting beat up on the great lakes with for the last 10 years.

    Thanks Guys

  11. HI Guys

I was wondering what the rules are when the boat is moving, can a passenger drink a beer or is that considered an open container violation?Somebody at work told me the boat must be anchored and the key removed from the ignition. I never drink on the boat because I am always rigging or driving the boat so I just wait till I get home to have a few but my buddy's enjoy there beers so I was wondering what the rules are.

    Thanks

  12. Does anybody know of someplace that stocks vinly flooring for boats in the rochester area? I called west marine and they said they can order it but they dont stock it. I need some pretty quick to finish a project before I go to the 1000 islands next week. I only need a small amount 58"x 36". Thanks

  13. Thanks Yankee I would be interested on the details I almost bought one from a dealer in buffalo but was way off on the trade value of my boat to do that deal. If the price was right I would just wait and sell my boat next year.

    Thanks

  14. I bought a berkley digital scale at walmart for 19.95 and I happen to calibrate scales and other instruments for a living so I ran a cal check on this scale. I did 5,10,15,20,25,30and 35lb calibrated wieghts and this thing was never more than 1 or 2oz off at any of these readings. I was very surprised! It did go up to 50lbs put I figured 35lb was good enough seeing that I never catch a fish big enough to weigh in anyway. I bought a berkley digital scale 10 years ago and when I calibrated that thing it was off buy as much as 1lb or more any where over 15lbs so I guess they are making them better. But using any scale on a boat when the lake is rough is a hard thing to do so maybe having both a length or weight min. might not be a bad idea.

  15. Hi Guys

I was looking for input on trophy walkaround cuddy boats 2002 to 2006 I was looking at few 18 and 19 footers with the 115 hp 4 stroke outboard. I rode in the 18 with this motor and it was fast enough for me and was told it sipped the gas. If you guys could give me your thoughts I would appericate it.

    Thanks

  16. I was in clayton from 7/21 to 7/28 and the pike fishing was great caught many fish over 30" and a bunch of little ones. The best technique was running NK mag spoons I put 6 oz trolling wieghts on 30 lb power chord and then ran a 6 ft. leader. I used line counter reels and good swivels they tend to spin alot. The best colors where silver and black, gold and black and black and white I also had luck with fire tiger. This rig worked great in 18 to 45 feet of water I just kept bumbing the boat in and out until I found the fish if they where in tight I would use 3oz wieghts the nice thing about the sinkers where they would keep the floating weeds from slidding down to the spoons.

    Good Luck

  17. I used to fish out of sunset park on the east side for tigers and pike.

My biggest was 44" and it was 20LB. My most success was trolling in 18 to 30 feet of water early or late in the day with thunder stick deep divers in fire tiger color. I would usually start with jr thunder stick deep divers on the north east shore line in 18 feet of water which would produce n pike the best troll for tigers was right across the lake in 24 feet of water with the full sized thunder deep divers again fire tiger was the ticket. I would use 50lb braid and never use steel leaders they seem to kill the action on the lure and I never had a bite off.

    Good Luck
