I did try a little bass fishing on the east side of carleton with no luck and usually I pick up a few trolling for N pike this time of year but that did not happen. I am sorry to say the bass action seems to be pretty slow in that area. I would try in closer saw 10' and less maybe you will have some luck there. Sorry I was not much help.

I wont be up there again until july 26 to August 1 if you are going to be up there that week at all pm me and we should exchange cell numbers. We could hook up and I can show you a bunch of good N pike spots and maybe find time for a cold one. Buy the way thanks for the compliment on the boat it is a 2004 and it has been a major upgrade from my 1996 spectrum 16' alumnium. The spectrum was a good boat especially after I replaced the 40hp force 2 stroke with a 60hp 06 4 stoke but it just was not cutting it on lake ontario. This walk around 18' is a nice compromise between the easy to trailer 16' and a real big lake boat and the 115hp 4 stroke is real easy on gas and trolls great.

The best hours trolling where 6 to 8 am and pm but when it was overcast I think you could be on a decent pick all day of Pike. I saw you to I did call out to any LOU members on channel 68 but no responce. I was not sure that was you next time you see me up there if you dont have a radio just ride up and say hello! There was almost no rain at all during the day up there it stayed mostly south of us except for one short strom at night.

  4. Went 9 for 13 trolling for pike while fishing for only 12 hrs in 4 days this was due to my friends health which was very poor. All the pike where taken in 18' to 23' fow trolling with Mag size spoons of various colors a few where NBK and a black and silver with ladder tape on it. All the trolling was done with 3 oz in line trolling sinkers set back 100' to 180'. The size of the pike ranged from 22" to a nice 35" (10lb). I brought home a nice bag of fillets which my 8 year old made me start cooking as soon as he get home from school. I also caught 3 nice perch drifting minnows in 20 fow I must admit I ate those for a snack. All in all not a bad trip I wish I could have have been on the water more but many years of hard living has caught up to a dear friend and he could not keep up so I hung with him instead of fishing alone allot.

I will be up in the Carleton island area from 6/13 to 6/15 maybe 6/16 if you have a radio give me a call on 68 I will monitor it while I am up there. If you are interested in catching N Pike I usually troll off the NE end of Carleton in 15' to 25' of water with deep diving jr thunder sticks and I do pretty good. I also run any large spoon usually start with a black and white mag size spoon with a trolling sinker to get it down some. Also any shore line that has a gradual drop off and start at 18' and look for structure and or weed beds at the bottom it should work pretty good for pike from 22" to 34" but don't expect much bigger but you may have a steady pick of them. Also learn how to fillet them they are better eating than walleye in my opinion. Oh and the pike fight 10X harder then those walleye. No offense to the walleye anglers here but after living in Buffalo the first 25 years of my life and catching a lot of them they just don't do it for me anymore.

  6. Hi Jeremy

I think I talked with you today out on the water thanks for the report out there. I never could get anything going and suffered my first SKUNK this year oh well better luck next time I guess. Good going on your catch sounds like you had a great morning! I will be hauling the boat up to cape vincent this weekend for my annual N pike trip we usually hammer them pretty good it should be fun. When I get back I can start trying to figure this big lake fishing stuff out and put a few in the boat.

  7. I just got 2 new 13lb torpedo weights, they are plain lead finsih right now I was wondering should I paint them if so what color maybe black? I also was wondering would putting some sort of rubber coating and or some ladder tape be a good idea? I got these because my new (used) riggers came with 10lb cannon balls and I am hoping these will help with the extreme blowback I am presently getting. I know shark weight's would probably been the way to go but these where half the price and the budget is skinny right know. Thanks for any input you might have!

  8. You might be right about them being carp. try a can of corn and put a few kernnels on a size 6 hook under a float or above a sinker. If there not carp try a night crawler they maybe small mouths but I doubt it. I used to do a lot of carp fishing this time of the year during my youth it was a lot of fun we even had some recipes for dough balls if you look on the internet you should find a bunch of recipes for it. If they are carp dont be afraid to throw a few handfuls of corn out in the area you will be fishing this helps to get them going on it.

  9. I have limited time with it, but so far I luv my depth raider and it is not hard to set up. I also have the sensor on the cable so it is easy to remove it. If you get one read this thread and it explains it all then you can thank Billy V because it worked great!!! I think i got it from marine general and asked for the non advertised special it was 400 plus shipping insurance but no shipping I think it came to 409. By the way they send coated cable with it just make sure you strip it back a couple of feet when you put it on, if you have cannons with auto stop it is all in the thread I posted.

  10. Zeb glad you like it I am getting used to mine and starting to like it more and more. Don't forget to get your free map chip it will enhance the map you have now. I ordered the fishing hot spots east chip all you have to do is go to the Lowrance site and print the free map chip rebate and follow the directions.

  11. I am looking to buy a reel for copper wire. I already have a spool of 600' of 30lb stranded copper and a 300 yd roll of 50lb power pro for backing, is there a line counter reel out there that wont break the bank or should I just get a regular reel and mark the wire with heat shrink? What capacity reel do I need for this set up any suggestions would be appreciated. One more question how much of the 600' of wire would you put on it 300' or 400' I am not sure? I probable will run it down the shoot or off a board with a rubber band release. Sorry about all the questions!
