  1. It’s showing two objects at let’s say 100’. They ( the fish arch and the weight ) are both 100’ from the transducer , but they are not at the same depth due to blowback of the weight Hard to get your head around , but it’s true. Like I stated, a fish hawk or other device that tells actual depth of the probe and weight are a real eye 👁️ opener.
  2. https://www.moellermarine.com/ they have a tank for you
  3. Right on !! The sonar (distance finder ) is showing your weight distance from the transducer it will only show the true depth of your weight if you are stopped and the cable is straight down. Any angle on the cable will lessen the depth of the weight , but it will still show the actual distance from the ducer , not the true depth it’s running. A fish 🐟 will show actual depth because you are passing over it ( arches) If it was attached to the boat , the same rule would apply the distance would be shown not the actual depth A fish hawk is an eye opener. It takes all the guess work out of the equation
  4. You definitely have the right colors. Always my go to Chartreuse glow. Go get ‘em
  5. Here’s more : Sometimes you have to wonder if downstate lawmakers even know there is an upstate. Legislation is being proposed to ban fishing and hunting tournaments and derbies in the state of New York. In a story first reported by First Rochester.com, the bill is being introduced by lawmakers from around the city. Here's some of the language in the proposed law: It shall be unlawful for any person to organize, sponsor, conduct, promote, or participate in any contest, competition, tournament, or derby with the objective of taking or hunting wildlife for prizes or other inducement, or for entertainment. The proposed punishment would be up to 1 year in jail and/or a fine between $500 to $2,000. The bill was read on the floor, then sent to the Committee on Environmental Conservation for further review. Read more on the story at Rochester First.com. 6. Another potential attempt to end tournaments. It’s about hunting for the moment, but you can be sure peta and their friends will work hard to include fishing https://www.wrvo.org/politics-and-government/2023-07-20/new-york-considers-ban-on-cash-prize-contests-for-hunting-coyotes-squirrels-some-other-wildlife
  7. Maybe at 1/2 a knot Any angle on the rigger cable will decrease depth reached. I’ve had to let out 150’ of cable to reach 100’ of depth when a current is running and the angle on the cable is over 15° Pure geometry
  8. You are so right. I’ve been trying to get people to understand this for years. Thank you !!
  9. “ the trench “ is between Stony point and Stony island. If you have a chart or GPS you will see it clearly. It can be great or it can be a desert beginning of August should see fishing pick up in that area. Watch for charter boats and do what they’re doing. Downriggers are a must. It gets very congested because of the narrow nature of the trench , so use long lines at your peril Good bass fishing along the high rocks by Whele state park. Good luck

  11. Cpt Dan Keating addresses this phenomenon in his books along shore currents can pile up debris, out in deep water it usually means warm and cold water stack up and form the line usually along an upwelling of cold water ( warm and cold don’t mix well ). That’s why you can see the thermocline on your sonar. Debris sinks to the place where the temps meet and become visible on the screen think of this as a vertical thermocline. Have seen it many times
  12. Fat Trout hit the nail on the head The Eastern basin of LO can be on fire one day and devoid of fish the next Salmon are a pelagic fish and can move great distances overnight. They also move up and down in the water column following preferred temps and bait fish Fishing in the Eastern basin is more like hunting than fishing. You have to find them to catch them. Later when the mature Kings start migrating east to their spawning grounds , they are more concentrated and not as apt to wander.
  13. The two year olds are what is available in the eastern basin at this time of year. The matures will begin moving east in mid July 🤞 A 20’ difference in depth between cable counter and actual depth is not surprising. There are times I’ve let out 150 ‘ of cable to reach 100’ currents , wind , boat speed all contribute to blowback Now that school year is over , I hope to get out more frequently. We did very well on browns inshore this spring and a few nice walleyes in the mix
  14. That’s probably why the experts are looking into it 😝
  15. I use Shakespeare pl-259G coax connectors ( same used on vhf radios ) and pl-258 connector between them. The pl/259 is dependent on the size of your coax I need 8x. I’ve used this system for years on cannon speed & temp and intellitroll. I have also used mason tackle coated cable forever. 300 ‘ spool of 150 # coated runs in the $50 range. There are cheaper connectors available on eBay and Amazon can’t vouch for quality
  16. Fat Nancy’s, all seasons , a-Tom-ick , fish307 All reputable dealers
  17. Good advice. LO is an inland sea and can’t be underestimated . Small boats are fine for inshore spring fishing , but later in the season ( like now ) , the fishing moves offshore and a 20 mile run to fish is normal. A seaworthy vessel is a necessity. It can go from calm to 6 ‘ waves in very short order. Ask me how I know 😝. A vhf radio is a life saving addition to your gear
  18. It to mention the fact that June is a notoriously sloooow month in the eastern basin. LT aka mud chickens , will usually cooperate in 150 fow fishing cowbells and gambler rigs or spin n’ glows close to the bottom. Keep the speed below 2 mph
  19. There is a school of thought that the cable hum actually attracts fish
  20. That's exactly what they are LO has a huge population of Gizzard Shad The DEC needs to find out what caused this die off
  21. Here’s the rule Get Your Vessel Inspected Regulations to prohibit bringing aquatic invasive species into Lake George began with the 2014 boating season and continue today. Vessel inspection technicians must inspect every trailered boat before entry into the water and decontaminate the vessel, if necessary. Once the boat has been inspected, it will receive the vessel inspection control seal (VICS). No boat will be allowed to launch without an intact VICS Seal. These rules apply to all 86 public and private launches, with a $500 fee for violators. In addition, as of June 8, 2022, under new state law, if a DEC inspection station adjacent to a public waterbody in the Adirondack Park (which includes Lake George) is open for operation, boaters must have either a self-issuing certification or decontamination certificate from a DEC inspection station before launching into the waterbody. Boat inspections take place at seven stations around the lake: Million Dollar Beach Launch: 139 Beach Road, Lake George, NY Dunham's Bay Dock & Launch: 2036 Bay Road, Queensbury, NY Huletts Landing Marina: 6068 Lakeside Way, Huletts Landing, NY Norowal Marina in Bolton: 21 Sagamore Road, Bolton Landing, NY Mossy Point Public Boat Launch: 158 Black Point Road, Ticonderoga, NY Rogers Rock Public Campground: 9894 Lakeshore Drive, Hague, NY Note: The Transfer Road Inspection Station is now closed. Everyone knows the phrase, "It is all fun and games until _____". On a populated lake, these sorts of situations can occur, and while everyone also knows the phrase "accidents happen", many unsafe situations can be easily avoided simply by being familiar with the rules. Lake George is a unique lake, and therefore it has special laws that differ from other lakes in the region and in New York State. These laws are enforced by the Lake George Park Commission (LGPC) and the Warren County Sheriff's Department. A boater should not enter the water without first realizing some of the different rules that Lake George
  22. Why. I’ve used the same terminator for years with no issues. If you do decide to re-terminate , you can buy just the plastic part that the cable runs through from fish307 for about a dollar each way cheaper than buying the whole terminator kit
