  1. Couple of thoughts. I am in a learning curve with a hook 7x. Check your range in the menu if it's not set to auto you may not track bottom. If u have fishing mode make sure it's not set to shallow water. Try going into menu and set to default which erases any settings u made takes it back to factory settings. Hope this helps

  2. And regardless of the fact your a USCG Master or not your held to the USCG Rules of the road, not inland lakes on Lake Ontario, and most of the other lakes because of the canal system.

Keep in mind they cant just be pissing you off, it has to be real danger of collision. Many people think they own the lake, and the first 1/2 mile around them, that's not so. Some one passing you safely can be fairly close in good weather and light winds, without presenting any danger to you (speed dependant as well). In rivers people pass all the time at 20 to 50 yards with no issues, your planer boards are not part of your boat regardless how you feel.

I see a lot of guys get mad about stuff that's not dangerous it just pisses them off. We all screw up, and have stuff screw up (like kicker control arms sliding all the way out and getting right in the way of the guy behind me, cause the dam boat didn't steer) and need to remember we are having fun together.

thanks for the very concise and true post on this subject. Fishermen must realize that the boards and 400 ft coppers and lead codes are not part of their boat and should not be part of the equation If there is another boat close by , get the long lines out of the way
  3. You need a shop manual !! I believe this motor has optical ignition system and is diagnosed with a laptop and a special program . You might want to check your shift interrupter switch , that will kill one bank of cylinders . Also ,did your engine get hot ? It has a sensor that limits rpm if engine gets too hot . Rev limiter may be bad etc. etc . Technology is great when it works .firgot to add you check timing advance with an automotive timing light while engine is running. Check manual for timing marks and specifications

  4. and yes, he defecates in my garden. and sprays about the place.

the neighbors just moved into the neighborhood and are a bunch of total scumbags. talking it over with them didn't work. they don't get it.

I know what to do, but then I would have a carcass to dispose of.

    any "less lethal" solutions?

    thanks.

What has this to do with Lake Ontario fishing ?

  5. Slow (but beautiful) day for us . Got to launch at 5:30 AM ,only one boat in parking lot . Ran out to 150fow and set up cut bait and spoon program . Screen empty for the most part . A few hooks deep (LT ? ) .Temp down 120 -130 feet  .  had one knock off ,  bait chewed up pretty good ,but no one home . Decided Kings were still west ( should have known that before we left the launch ) . Moved in to 100 fow 60 degree down 80-90 ft . Put down all spoons and finally hooked a 5 lb brown . Then a nice steelie . pulled lines at noon and headed in . Spent a good deal of time trying to get a handle on Lowrance Hook 7X ,not a user friendly unit , but that's probably me . Great to be out there . Guess you never get over the fishing fever .

  6. responsibilities between vessels - Who has the right of way?1. A power-driven vessel underway must keep out of the way of:-A vessel not under command (unable to maneuver). -A vessel restricted in its ability to maneuver.-A vessel engaged in fishing.*-A sailing vessel.2. A sailing vessel underway must keep out of the way: -A vessel not under command.-A vessel restricted in its ability to maneuver.-A vessel engaged in fishing.*3. A vessel engaged in fishing* when underway must, so far as possible, keep out of the way of:-A vessel not under command.-A vessel restricted in its ability to maneuver.*A vessel engaged in fishing does not include fishing with trollinglines or other apparatus which does not restrict maneuverability. (ie. Sport Fishing)

This from the NYS boaters guide. It's what I always went by.

Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

  7. Blow boats have the right away unless you're in the act of fishing.

Negative   Recreational fishing is not considered "fishing"  as in commercial fishing . Recreational fishermen are just that . And follow all the rules of any recreational boater . You must give way to a sailing vessel under sail . If they are under power ,they must follow the same rules as any power boat . The question that was put here was a sailboat overtaking a power boat . The rules state the sailboat is the give way boat and the fishing boat is the stand on vessel . The power (fishing ) vessel must maintain it's heading (course) so that the sailing vessel can pass to port or starboard .

  8. The "rules of the road " state : If a sailboat is overtaking a recreational power boat , the power boat is the stand on vessel and the sailboat is the give way boat . You were in the right to maintain your course , but the rules also state that all actions must be taken to avoid a collision . As stated , some people on the water have NO clue .

  9. Is it possible someoine replaced that hub at one time ? If you look at bearing buddy website ,you will find that there are different diameters for different brands of hubs . They list 1.781 " , 1.810 " and 1.980 "  . You may need the 1.810 instead of the 1.781' . That's not a big difference in size ,but could account for your lost caps . If you have an inside micrometer you could measure the hub .

  10. Ok I think I'll stay away from the horse spray. I will try the suntan lotion, bug spray, thermocell and pine sol. I already wear long sleeve UV protective shirts but refuse to let those annoying little bastards force me into pants in July! This is war! Let the experiment begin. Have swatter-will fish! I will report back with results.

  11. Been at war with these little b#$%^@'s for a long time . My fishing buddy killed 250 in one afternoon with a fly swatter . The ONLY repellent that I have found that works ( at least any that works AND is safe for humans ) is Buggspray . The biting fly formula .  I did a little research and found that they are stable flies . How they get 15 miles off shore is another question .
